Title: Land train,a different way of making a Train for Pulp.

I've a thread over in Railway where I'm running with the idea of building an entire 30's English steam train and railway track.However this idea came up in the general flow of the conversation.
Michi mentioned how he was surprised that no one had used the idea for Pulp before. So I've thought about for a while and at the risk of a'Duel Post' decided to Post some images in Pulp.Just to through the idea into the Pulp arena.
The original was produced around 1905 and remained in documented use until roughly 1930.It was used to haul logs to timber mills in North America and Canada,examples were also sold to Russia.
The steam versions were more powerful than their petrol engined replacement,and was recorded pulling a1/2 km of train of timber,so it's not impossible for it to pull a more conventional style of carriage arrangement.

What a brilliant contraption!

Love the weathering effects on the painted version, really nicely done.

I am assuming this is a kitbash?

BTW: There is no water tank on that engine. Will you make a tender of some sort too?

Surely it just scoops up snow to get the required water?  ;)

I made the engine with out a saddle tank as it made the engine look to cramped in 28mm(later versions had a saddle tank often when  the front ski's were replaced with wheels).As for a tender I may get round to one when I do the tender for Railway engine.But for now I'm happy to leave it as it is,and work on the idea mentioned by Ssendam.
JollyBoB, no kit bashing,only Kelloggs and cocktail sticks.

Glad every one likes the colour scheme.Still tangleing with the car's theme,though Matt.

mark - great work!  i suppose it might work for remote jungles too since there's no tracks; but swap the front skis for another set of treads.  any tips/suggestions/how-to on making it?  and BTW "duel thread" sounds like they're fighting - very much a pulp happenstance.

Your right you could use it anywhere in a pulp game.As for tips on making one,Have a look at the 'Tales from the tin shed' threads they're the tutorials I've done on card modelling covering tri-engined planes for pulp.Tramp steamers,traction engines and heavy field guns.Fire engines and other bits and bobs .if you get stuck just drop me a PM as for a full tutorial I'm not sure if I could fit one into my work load.
But if you were intent on kit bashing a HO engine with a new cab,or a Thomas the tank engine toy,and the track units from a Renualt ft17. Would work too.

There's just a suggestion of detail rather than 'real' detail.heres a picture of the inside of the cab which can hold two 25mm bases (albeit with a bit of a squeeze).The carriage is proving a bit of slow burner as I've had to tweak the layout of the billboard as the original setup didn't flow when I placed it next to the engine. I'll be adding a small amount of detail to the interior,with sash windows open at different heights,bunks,pot belly stove,and a small table with charts on(just to give it a bit more of a pulp'd feel)

A Boer War style land train?
It'd be a lot faster to build than on of these(there's some line drawing plans on the traction engine thread which if  I remember rightly Jon added) I'll confess it's not a model I've made for a long time.How ever it's just a series of boxes with wheels,even the engine is simple once you take a second look.Infact you could turn one out in a couple of evenings.
If your not a regular scratch builder then the Boer War version would be a great starting point,as you'd use pretty much the same methods on the log hauler .( I promised I'd get round to doing a tutorial on one but got completely sidetracked with a Space 1889 flyer in card.Then a pulp'd two man airship.)
But if you do decide to make either one feel free to pick my brains such as they are  ;D and I'll help with what ever I can. I'll add that there are some lovely of the versions of the Boer War train already floating around on the forum.(If on occasion a little over complicated.)so you should find all the inspiration you'd need right here in the forum.

What a wonderful mixed up sound. I'm almost tempted to make one with wheels.
I'm surprised at its turn of speed,I wonder if it moves even faster as I doubt it's moving at full speed through the show ground.
Thanks for the link ,as it was hard to visualise it moving but it's quite inspiring tempted to look for other odd ball vehicles to build and leave the railway version for next year.
