Here are some Dixons samurai and ashigaru from the early period/s:

Love the mounted and the last guy. They are very well painted and have loads of character.
-
As sculpts I've never been a fan of these; the big heads and big hands. Though that's not really a criticism of the technique of the sculptor, more of the stylistic choice (which seems to have been in fashion back when these were released) as the execution of detail is very well done, the mounted figure is a particularly fine piece of work. As the Cid says, they have lots of character.
The painting is just right for these figures, not too fussy, and clearly brings out the detail of the sculpts. The face on the last guy is great.

There are variations in the sculpts. I bought the originals 30 years ago but, even then, some were less idiosyncratic than others. The more recent figures are better.

I love the Dixon stuff and your painting is inspiring

Outstanding work! I loved these figures way back when, did a lot of paintwork for Trevor's web site, these are great 8)

Yeah, the glory days of the 1980s. :D
Great stuff :)

I bought the first lot way back when... Have only just gotten around to painting them (blush). My excuse is that the I was waiting for my painting skills to improve ;). Here are some more:

Two of my favourites, front and back.

And some later period 15mm counterparts, from the days when the range was owned by Dixons.

I remember those 15s, weren't they originally put out by a firm called Two Dragons or something? Excellent work 8)
-
Very nice painting, I for one still love this range. Proper toy soldiers oozing with charm and of course these days buckets of nostalgia.
The Two Dragons fifteens are still great too.
-
They started out as Dixons 'way back when'... Two Dragons bought them a few years later. I still remember browsing the range in the shop that used to be next to Kings Cross Station.

Back to 25mm....

Gamers in Exile! I used to flog painted stuff in there back in the olden days 8)

That's the one! Oh the memories :'( The joy of being able to browse... Anyway, back to reality. Another favourite here. Reminds me of a painting in one of Turnbull's books.

A mounted monk and an archer.

Superb! :-* I've still got a box of these unpainted some where, if I ever get time I'll dig out the Turnbull books and have another go at them.

Thank you for the kind comments everyone. Here are two views of the ashigaru archer.

And some more 15mm. This time Naismith Design peasants from Navwar.

Someone posted earlier that the sculpts aren't the best, and I'd have to agree. Your painting, however, is spot on and really brings out the character in these. 's a fine looking bunch of models here. :)
-
Yeah, they're not the best sculpts but they're great to paint, keep it up Robert 8)

The figure carrying the wooden spear, wearing the peasant 'hat', was the most disappointing. The other figures were better.

If I remember my 15mm days correctly, the wooden spear chap is Naismith, the others Dixon, formerly Two Dragons (unless it's the other way around).
-
Ah yes, that makes sense. I don't remember my 15mm days correctly :?
