Title: Terrain mats?
Post by: Gunbird on November 01, 2015, 11:30:45 PM
I already have 2 Mat of War (1 desert and 1 green) and 3 Hotz mats in blue, green and sand that suit me very well and I'm very happy with them. But as I'm looking more at skirmishing right now in 20/28mm I feel it would be nice to have a gaming mat with a more dedicated background. Seeing as companies making these are popping up all over and I can't really tell what is better and what is not, I'd like some buyer feedback from you lot.

I have a 4x4 table (in the near future). Do I buy a 4x4 mat or shall I get a 6x4 mat instead which is more fitting with the tables in the clubs and events I frequent? Will a 6x4 lie nice and flat on a 4x4 table or do I need to clamp it. What is better, vinyl, neoprene mousemat or cloth?

I'm looking for a cobblestone pattern since my most likely main focus will be Frostgrave and Mordheim in the near future. I heard about this company > http://www.urbanmatz.com/p/189/cobblestone-battlefield-6x4 and those mats are due for release in December. I didn't quite get what the size really is till I saw this review by Guerilla Miniature Games > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0YDuiDYgno When he puts his hands down and uses scenery it clicked in my head, this looks like a suitable mat for me.

But there seem to be so many to choose from. I'll keep my eye open at Crisis next week for information. Till then, fire away, I'd like opinions!

I have a starfield mat from Deep Cut Studios, in mousemat material and I love it. I got a 6x4, and we just mark sections off when using a smaller area. I don't know how it would go laying it over a smaller table, I think that wouldn't work so well.
