Ok guys... here is the idea
Basically, its one of the only ways to ENSURE you get some cool Lead (possibly plastic) for Christmas!
Here is how it would work...
Anyone who wants to sign up, just says "I am in" on this thread, then PMs me their info* later. Once the Registration period is over... say end of November, I'll send everyone who is playing ONE address to send a Secret Santa Gift to. Each person is responsible for sending a gift of nominal value (determined by the group) to the individual he has an address for.... Everybody reports here in the secret Santa thread when there gift arrives, and what it was, and after everyone gets theirs, we can "reveal" who we were the secret Santa too.
The points to stress are
1) The person receiving the gift doesn't know who the giver is (until revealed after date specified by group)
2) You only buy ONE gift for ONE recipient (and you only GET ONE gift from ONE sender)
3) Gifts should have a value that is pre-determined buy the group... that is, if we say $20 or so. Your gift can be worth more if you want, but the minimum value is just to make it equitable for all players. You don't even have to buy anything... You can grab a few figures (painted unpainted) throw em in a box and mail em off... done. It can be anything Mini/LAF related Paints, Brushes, Games, Rules, Dice, Figures, etc etc etc....
4) Gifts must go out by a certain date December 7, to ensure they arrive before Christmas. (hard to enforce, but try to meet the sending deadline.)
It usually takes about 10 to make it worthwhile, and I will try to keep US Folks Together and Euro folks together so there is no crazy transatlantic shipping charges to worry about.
We will close "sign ups" on November 15 to give the mailing system time to get the packages to their recipients.
PLEASE FORMAT YOUR ADDRESS AS TO HOW IT SHOULD APPEAR ON A LABEL
Every county's postal system seems to want it different, and while yours seems natural to you, for somebody else, from a different place in the world, it might look strange.

Oooh, this should be fun!
I'm in! :D
-
Sounds like fun, count me in.
-
Im interested
-
I'm in!! :-* lol
-
I'm in too, sounds like a great idea!
-
Yeah, I'm in!
-
Count me in.
-
I'm so in!
Will you try to minimize the shipping cost by paring people from nearby countries?
-
Can I steal the idea for a french forum ?
-
I need a good excuse to do some hobbling :) in!
-
If it is possible to get someone within EU, I am in :)
-
Hey Guys
My plan is to keep the EU guys together, and the Americas guys together... if possible.
You don't have to send a kitchen sink or a kilo of minis... (although, if you really wanted to send me a kilo of minis, I'll split the shipping cost with ya!) :)
Psychoflexible
Can I steal the idea for a french forum ?
French forum... ? A French Mini forum?
You can steal the idea, if you participate here too! :)
ALSO
I have only posted this here in the Fantasy Adventures Area... should I link to it in some of the other sub forums? I don't know what the rules are about cross pollinating threads for a topic like this (Mods?)
-
Count me in. I have participated in a secret Santa for a few years on another forum that I don't visit a lot anymore so it would be nice to continue over here.
-
Once you've received your present, do you have to wait until christmas to open it, so we open all at the same time?
-
I'll play.
-
I'm in :)
-
I'm in for $15-20 with a minor stipulation...it'd have to be a fellow US member, since shipping overseas from the US is pretty much a minimum of $25 just for the shipping, let alone the gift.
If that's okay, I'm in!
-
Oh yeah! I'm in
Regards
Jim

LordOdo
Yes, as soon as you get your present, open her up, take a pic, and post your Christmas loot here, for all to see!
Elbows
Yes, I will try to keep everyone on the same content together. If it doesn't matter to you.. let me now when you send the details. I have already had request, so Its ok. The idea is to have fun... not to stress anyone out about shipping!
If you haven't sent me your details, please do so. I have info on about 12 of the 16 folks who have signed up so far.
I will probably put a post in the General section for more exposure...
-
When do you expect to start making pairings? I'd like at least a little bit of time to work, and december is going to be a hectic month. :)
-
I will probably put a post in the General section for more exposure...
No double posting, which is why I locked the other thread. I will move this one over to the General Discussion board.
All Participants please note:
This event is not sponsored, endorsed, or actively supported by LAF. Members are, of course, free to participate, but must be fully aware that they do so on their own account and at their own risk (e.g. postal issues).

Yes it's the French Mordheim forum:

A brilliant idea ... so in!!

Count me in - first time participant in one of these!

I'm not sure this should have been moved. When it was in the Fantasy Adventurers section, it meant that all participants would send and receive something related to fantasy miniatures. By putting it in the general section, will it mean that some gifts will be non-fantasy?
-

I understood the TO's OP and the subsequent topic he opened on the General Discussion board that it was not supposed to be limited to a given theme. Participants or the TO should discuss this and agree on a ruling. I just moved it in the TO's express interest to garner more attention to the event.
-

I think that was the problem of having it in the Fantasy section. If I've understood the OP's intention correctly (and I admit that I may not have) it's not supposed to be a fantasy-only gift exchange. Rather, he put it in the Fantasy section because it's one of the most active sections of the forum, and the idea was that more people would notice the thread that way, although I personally don't agree with that premise or procedure.
But again, I could be wrong about the original intention - you may want to make sure you're all on the same page.
I'm only speaking as a bystander, mind. Neither a participant in the gift exchange nor any sort of affiliate with the LAF "management". And I apologise if I sound negative, I don't mean to sound that way at all. I'm actually very tempted by this gift exchange, but I need to keep my head above water in regard to finances and commitments right now, so I'd better abstain, for the other participants' sake as well as my own.
-
Hey Guys
No worries...
My original intent... was to have some fun with the guys on the forum here in a Christmas Present-y kind of way.
Part of the gift-er thing is sending me your details PLUS what you are interested in.
WOW
You should see what has shown up. Everything from "I collect Otherworld minis" to Sci-fi, Mordhiem, Gold Box stuff etc etc... Even when it was "only" in the Fantasy Section...
Here is an example
1) Cyberpunk Sci Fi
2) Games I currently play: Infinity (playing Nomads and Tohaa), Frostgrave, AoS, 40K (playing Chaos Daemon for both)
Games I'm looking into getting into: Black-ops, Rogue Planet, This is not a test
I'm looking into getting into terrain building also
3)Interests: D&D, or anything Warhammer undead or Nurgle Chaos. Lord of the Rings, True 25mm Fantasy, Carnevale, Gothic Horror.
That is just 3 of the guys who signed up in the fantasy section.
I will try to pair folks up in the same country (or next door) AND with similar interests.
-
As say in PM I'm in !
-
Ho Ho Ho!
So far, we have 18 folks signed up... if you haven't sent me your details, please do so (check the 2nd post for specifics)
Also, How about we close the registration of Santas the 15 of November. That should give everybody time to assemble the packages, and mail em out. Mail can be notoriously slow at Christmas time, so the sooner the better. When you mail your package, let me know and I can tell your gift-ee its on the way.
-
Works for me!
-
Almost "last call" for the Secret Santa!
Everybody who "is in" has sent me their info... so I will start rolling them out Sunday evening.
-
Sign-ups are closed! I am working on the distribution list
more to come!
-
The tension.... :D
-
Ok! They are all out!
I sent them via the PM system here at the forum, so check your mail box!
Again, for record keeping, if you didn't get an address, please let me know via PM. If there was a mistake (I sent you your OWN address) let me know. I was pretty thorough, and its a bit more difficult making matches than it seems (we have participants from Alaska to Spain). I used the criteria of
Same Country
Same Continent
Same interest
Best of luck, PM me when you mail out your package so I can inform the giftee its on the way. Also, when you get your gift, you don't have to wait. Open it, photo it, and post it up here!
Cheers!
PS
Apologies to the player who drew my name. Somebody gets stuck with the organizer, so it won't be a surprise. I hope you still enjoy playing though!
-
Went to the local shop and told the manager about our game. He got very enthousiast and helped me excited to find me some really cool bits. Really should have talked to him more on previous visits, as he showed me a part of the shop I hadn't ever seen before; turns out they got more mini's than I ever knew (My wallet cried silently as it realised the future may be full of visits to the shop..)
Left the shop with a really cool miniature from a brand I hadn't ever heard of before to add to my lead pile. I wont give any information whether or not I bought something for my 'Secret Santa victim', as that has to be kept secret right? :D
Long story short, I really enjoy this game so far!!
-
tyrionhalfman
I have been informed by Santa that your Package is on the way!
Maybe tomorrow????? Let us know, ho ho ho!
-
Having a lot of fun with this exchange. I'm using all kinds of stuff and ideas to include in the package. I hope to send it by Monday.
-
Otherworld
Santa told me your package is in the mail... regardless of whether you have been "bad" or "good" this year.
-
Santa has visited me early. Very pleased with what he's left me. I'd already started removing parts from the sprues before remembering to get a pic.

Thanks Santa

Sweet! :)

Santa says you should be listening for Reindeer tomorrow!

Jase
The North Pole says its been delivered... any word?
-
It has!
I'll take a few pictures tomorrow. For now, I'm in awe :)
Unfortunately, I'm still waiting on the mailman to get the stuff to me before Secret Santa can get to work. Luckily, it isn't Christmas yet.
-
Santa has been, and he's left me an awesome present!

I used to have this model many years ago, and lost it along with some other gaming stuff when a shipping crate went missing between army postings. So, it's great to see an old friend again. Nice one, Santa! :)

My Secret Santa went wild on Pulp:

But not only that, he made me a special Pulp Alley Character card:

And the model to go with it:

It even has a BristleBag on its belt!
:-* :-*

I received my gift today. It is awesome, fits right in whit what I,m playing! And my gift to Wolven is sent. lol
-
Well... there goes the "secret"!
-
A package is sent, now I'm hoping it will reach it's destination. I'm really worried about that...
-
This showed up today.

Thanks Secret Santa!
My gift is almost ready to go out, just waiting for one thing.
-
Affun
Santa has confirmed you have a Package Incoming!
-
Just a big Shout of THANKS! To my Secret Santa!
Post Man came today, and delivered a nice package!
This is cool for lots of reasons, but one, because I was looking into getting into the "Skirmish" thing but didn't have any rules or info on how to go about it.
Now I got the Otherworld rule set, AND this killer Djinn!
Thanks Santa!!!!!
-
Damn I feel like I may have under-delivered on mine! That's a nice haul!
-
The first year is kind of tricky... we'll be experts by next year!
As long as folks meet the minimum requirement, there should be no hard feelings (I hope). As stated, those that want to do more, can if they want, but there is a learning curve. Over the years I have run these secret santa gift exchanges on Cigar Forums, Pirate Living History Forums, Corvette Restorer Car Forums, Guitar Forums, and now Miniatures (Yes, I have a LOT of hobbies, though I quit smoking cigars years ago) and its rare that someone feels slighted.
-
Oooh so far there has been really cool presents!!
-
The order is finally on its way to me, then repackage and on to someone else...
-
My girlfriend is telling me that my secret santa gift has arrived! It'll be a bit before I get a chance to open it, but she sent me a picture of the package and I am well excited :)
-
Robh your gift is on the way
-
I am hoping that everyone has their gift in the mail by now... if not, PM me
-
Found a small package in the mail,
the cover said it was coming from:

And it contained:

Many thanks Santa!!! :-*
-
Dentatus
Santa says keep watching your mailbox!
-
Found my secret santa's gift in my mail, barbarian cavalery ! Many thanks to the unknown santa who made my day !
-
If you have received your gift.... please let us know.
If you HAVEN'T MAILED YOUR GIFT YET... pleas PM me.
-
One week to go! Getting anxious here...! :D
-
SBRPearce Your package is on the way... should be close!
-
It's in! Thanks and Merry Christmas.
As a side-note - we need more USA LAF'ers participating. Dentatus (Massachusetts) and I (Ohio) were each other's Secret Santa. lol So all you southern-tier North Americans, mark your 2016 calendars!
-
I'm in the U.S. and sent a package, never received one.
-
Elbows: I'm hoping that's not "never" but rather "haven't yet". There's a reason our Volunteer Santa Wrangler was nudging folks politely to get the move on...
Thanks, Dentatus!

So, the standing guys are West Wind (and I'm hunting their website to find 'e,). From which MFG/line are the 'downers'? I've seen the dwarf with the chainsaw before, but I can't recall where.
-
Yep, got a note that it's been delayed on its way to the sender, so no big deal. :)
-
Elbows... its on the way!
Anyone else (who hasn't been contacted by me about a delay) NOT received a gift?
Anyone who hasn't sent one yet (please PM me!)
-
Malebolgia
I know for a FACT that yours is on the way! lol
Lastly, I should have been a little more clear in my intro, but the Secret Santas didn't have to go out and buy something brand new. Most of us are sitting on several kilos of minis that we will never get around to painting... or just one or two that you have already painted. Again, its about the giving, and fun. Don't stress out about it.
-
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Elbaus/2015-12-19_17-03-12_563_zpshhwqjhkq.jpg)
Awesome. Sauce.
1) The chap who sent this took the time to actually look through some of my posts!
2) I got a minotaur which is a sculpt I've never seen and it looks pretty damn awesome (after disliking my current minotaur and buying a replacement which was equally as "bleh!"!!!)
3) Space marine heads...Mk6 in fact, something I'd just spent too much money on ebay buying ---- and still didn't have enough!
Even threw in a lovely human fighter figure with a minotaur head. This is fantastic. Now, just have to feel no pressure to do a great paintjob on the minotaur...(beads of sweat)
Thanks! :-*
-
The mailman had a Christmas gift for me yesterday! Tore open the envelope and what did I see...
Never heard of these miniatures, so that's always an awesome surprise. They will be perfect Pulpy robots for Pulp Alley (a Robot gang for a megalomane scientist).
Thanks Santa!! :-*
-
wolfie907
Elves report Santa is heading your way... Since you are in Alaska, he may stop by your place on the way "back" to the N.Pole... which means it may arrive After Christmas.
I got my fingers crossed, report in when it arrives.
ANYONE else NOT receive a gift yet?
We will have to wait til everyone gets their gift before we do an After Action Report, but despite some hic-cups, I hope everyone has enjoyed the game!
-
My girlfriend was finally able to visit and bring me a peculiar present:
:o :o :o
What an absolutely stunning hoard! I am quite floored by the sheer amount of 'stuff' I've got. With my painting speed, there's propably enough miniatures in there to occupy me for all of 2016 lol
Most of it seems to be old Wizards of the Coast metals, including a particularly awesome minotaur which I have already thought up a use for in our SoBH campaign.
What a nice and pleasant surprise :)
-
Santa brought me some foundry plague doctors and foundry grave stones,
They'll definitely get used in my frostgrave games and probably in my strange arons too :-*
Thanks Santa!
-
Ah I see my delivery has been positively received ... excellent!
My own Santa has sent me a parcel which shall be opened tomorrow!!
-
Christmas morning and presents duly opened:
:D
Thank you, really excellent choice of gift......can never have enough bony guys.....so many uses!
-
What an awesome idea RevFan - how did I miss this thread!! Count me in for next year. Usually the only gaming related gifts I get come from 2 fellow gamers who live close by and my wife (but the latter only if I order it and pay for it and give it to her to wrap up) :-)
Mery Xmas and a Happy New Year to All
Sterling
-
Thanks for the comments Sterling!
We are waiting I think for one last gift to make its way to Alaska... but besides that, everything should be accounted for. I hope everybody has had a positive experience and would join in next year.
It would be great to have an after action report in full when everyone gets their gift, so I will hold off until then!
Cheers!
-
@Revfan: Thanks for the time and effort of organising this, fun to be involved with. I much appreciated what I received and the reaction to what I sent.
Hope it continues next year!
-
Sounds like it's largely been a success. I may join in next year if this becomes a recurring thing.
-
Great fun :D I like that its a chance to get a hobby-related present as well as an excuse to give a gift that you know some one will enjoy.
I certainly hope the initiative returns next year.
-
Received my package today I'll get some pics taken and post tomorrow
-
Revfan-
thank you very much for organizing this. It's the only wargaming-related gift I've gotten from anyone besides myself for several years, and I'm already cooking up a scenario or two to feature these figs.
Also, thank you Dentatus, and I hope the rest of your Christmas was merry!
-
Looks like some folks had Great Secret Santa's! Or we have been good boys and girls this year!
Now that its done, I gotta say that I stumbled out of the starting gate.
I have probably run 20 secret santa's for online forums, and have yet to mess one up, until THIS one! I make a spread sheet, match folks up, and then cut and paste them into a PM to send out. I made the mistake of cutting once, and pasting twice, so ONE lucky guy got two gifts... and that also meant ONE of you got none...
Of course, I didn't discover this until the week before Christmas, so my mistake, My Fix. I had to find something on eBay in in a country close enough to the gift-ee that the gift would get to them before Christmas!
It all work out, and lesson learned.
I'd love to run one again next year, and hop that all of you participate for 2016. If you have a lesson learned, or advice, please share it!
My first one is, I should have stressed a little harder that it didn't have to be a brand new gift. Most of us are sitting on lead like Smaug sits on gold... just pick something you already have and send it on.
Second, In a few cases, there were only two players in a particular country or region, and I just had them gift each other. I think it would be better to no do that in the future.
For the Record, I was the secret santa's for
Otherworld and Malebolgia
anyone else want to reveal?
-
I gave mine away as I included a small "TurnStyle Games" patch in my gift... lol
-
I sent to Elbows. Looking forward to seeing that Minotaur painted... lol
-
It's on the table...might be a little bit though. Trying to whip up a heap of Old West terrain for an SnS reboot first. But it's actually about second in line for the dungeon stuff! lol
-
Okay then, I was tyrionhalfmans Santa
Regards

I was the "unlucky" one as I got the gift from Greg. But I am really curious in what my original gift was!
My gifts went to Jase...but he found out as soon as he opened the box. Guess he recognises my painting style and preference in miniatures. And yes, we often whatsapp... ;)
-
Thanks Fairoaks024. I particularly like the reaper stone giant
I was Estarioll's secret Santa
-
Forgot to follow up on this thread! Thanks, Santa! Mine arrived safe and sound :) now to plot a use for them :)
-
Here is what was in my box thank you to my Santa I really like the bases you sent
-
Hey Wolfie,
Glad you like them... I guess you know by now I was your Santa.
I would appreciate that you send me pictures of the minis you will put on them once you do.
PS: will post pictures of the oversea Secret Santa I got once I find the time.
-
Here's what I got from my Santa from across the sea. It's quite a hull and it will greatly help me to customize my Infinity Nomads.
(http://i.imgur.com/9t4fqbo.jpg) (http://imgur.com/9t4fqbo)
I think I'm supposed to be the lucky bastard who gets two gifts. **blush** Althought I haven't received the second one yet.
Thanks to all of you! I hope you are all happy with your gift, I know I am.

I'm relieved it reached you, and you like it! I'd like to see what you'll do with it; so link me up when you've painted the girls! ;) :D
-
Hey Folks!
I had a lot of fun with this last year... and would consider running it again this year if there is enough interest.
If there is enough interest... I'll start a new thread in a few weeks. Same as last year, unless there are some suggestions to make it better.
Rough time frame... sign ups up to Nov 20.... Try to have your gift out by Dec 1st... last year there were a few late gifts and due to the international flavor of the forum, we should leave plenty of time for gift arrival.
Cheers!
Revfan
-
I'm up for it again!
-
I'm in again :)
-
Yep, I'm in.
-
I'm in too!
-
I'd be happy to join in, sounds fun!
-
We'll have to split it into countries/regions like last time...I love you guys but I'm not paying $25 to ship something to ya! lol
-
Yes....
I'll try my best to split it up again.... It really depends on the players, and where they are from, but I'll do my best (again) to hopefully get everyone on the same continent... (Europe together, US Together... etc).
I'll start "the official thread soon"... since there is interest and post a link to it in this thread.
Also, if you played in last year's edition, and have painted your loot already... it would be cool to post a pic of em in the new thread when its up. Might be motivation for some who are on the fence about participating.
Cheers!
-
I'm in. If I'm not too late that is.......
-
He hasn't even started the official thread - you're fine! lol
I never did paint that minotaur...I should rectify that.
-
Count me in,
-
I'm in, missed it last year. It's always particularly useful when people put their location in their profile :D
-
I'm in.
I would love to pass some of my unique and varied stash to others.
Chicago, IL

Does being a dirty filthy Australian colonial count me out of this? :'(
-
I'm in - and will wait patiently for the New Official 2016 Thread(TM).
-
I'm in.
-
Official thread soon please. Fall In is next week and I might need to go shopping :D

2016 Secret Santa is up and running... check it out and sign up here!

Don't post anymore in this thread so we reduce the confusion.
Cheers all!

My how time flies.... Christmas 2018 is already approaching!
I am bumping this up to let past participants know that, if there is interest, I'll do it for 2018, See the 2018 thread here
