Title: First game of Hail Caesar
Post by: Melnibonean on November 12, 2015, 07:52:48 AM
Greetings folks,
We, at the Nunawading Wargames Association (in Melbourne)had our first game of Hail Caesar last weekend. A few of us have been building our forces throughout the year with the aim of having a major bash in December. In the meantime we have been using our troops of Lion Rampant.

This was a test game to get our heads around HC. We'd all read the rules and I've played the Warlords Pike and Shotte rules several times so I had a pretty good idea of how the system works. We made plenty of mistakes and remembered various rules half way through the game but this is all part of the learning process. Another game or two before the big bash (titled Cry Havoc) and we'll be okay.

This isn't a AAR just a post to show off some of the figures we've painted through the year. We are just making things up as we go along as far as armies are concerned. My army is German based on Fireforge's lovely Teutonic figures and is called the Hemmingseatic League - based on my surname. My opponent's army is based on French knights using old GW figures. Another player pushed into service a bunch of Normans that he inherited. The idea is to play large medieval battles without having to worry too much about history.

Just like in our Lion Rampant games this bloke popped up (again) to show his contempt to my valiant warriors.

Looks like you had a great game. I love the rich colours. Hope to play a game like that one day.  :)

Excellent stuff all round, wish I could get my gaming group to commit to something like this, everybody seems to do their own thing and we get dozens of disparate forces!

Lovely set up and figures - I love the brightness of the pageantry.

Lovely set up and figures - I love the brightness of the pageantry.

Thanks.
That was one of the main reasons our group decided on medieval and Hail Caesar. Big units with lots of colour.

I also finished a couple of commanders for my army this week (in the photo's above you'll see some foot knights stuck to bases acting a makeshift commanders). I still need another commander and he is on the paint bench as I write.

General Otto von Rickenbacker

Some great looking figures - really like the combination of blue & red which I may steal for a LR retinue.

Those are some nice, colourful armies! I hope that you and your friends are enjoying your games with the Hail Caesar rules.

Hi, nice game!
btw:
The name "Bishop Eisenwurst" reminds me of late 80s warhammer and 90s WHFRP. Eisenwurst means iron sausage  lol

I'm guessing that they already knew that  ;) :)

Yes I did.
But I took the name from a Frank Zappa song called The Torture Never Stops.
