I'm finally starting my army for BA Nationals at Adepticon 2016. After reading Krisztin Ungvry's amazing book Battle For Budapest: 100 Days In World War 2, I just knew I had to try modeling this crucial battle in miniature. As such, this force is meant to represent the odd assortment of units trapped inside the Budapest cauldron during the winter of 1944-45. Unfortunately, Warlord's Hungarian army list for Bolt Action is riddled with inaccuracies and missing units; so this build will show many units that aren't available under the generic Hungarian list. As such, for casual play, I will be utilizing the German Last Levy army list and switching back to the generic Hungarian army list for tournament play.

That's it for now! Only a couple more figures to convert above, then on to the mountain troops....

Interesting. Love to see more! :)
-
Bolt Action has never been known for accuracy. Have you the horrific Italian list? Ugh.
I read an interview once that Alessio "knew nothing about WW2"; it shows.

After much too much procrastination, I'm finally ready to paint my Hungarian infantry. I made a couple of last minute purchases to add to the army, notably Brigade Games WW1 Austrians for use as Hungarian Border Guards, Warlord Games Last Levy Volksturmm for use as University Assault Battalion, and Brigade Games Gebirgsjager of which one squad will do double duty as Hungarian Mountain Troops and the rest will be used for my planned Winter German army.

Nice basing, esp on the bigger HQ/weapon stands ......!
-
Looking forward to how this develops.

Nice!
I've alway wanted to game Budapest so this will be great to follow!

I was able to finish up the majority of my Hungarian vehicles this past weekend and am rather pleased with how they turned out....

Nice colours and weathering.

Finally finished with most of my Hungarians for Bolt Action Nationals next weekend. I went with the color guides from Flames of War Grey Wolf book as well as reenactor uniform photos for the Honved uniform. Please tell me what you think, thanks!

They look so tired, yet determined.
Lovely painting.

Well, my second-to-last Hungarian unit for BA Nationals at Adepticon in....2 days(!) is a Hetzer.

Beautiful painting.

I had/have a similar project (still just on paper for now). I wasn't sure about using WWI figures for the Hungarain but your posts make me change my mind a little. Still, I would like to try to build some Hungarian infantry by using Warlords plastic Japanese and Woodbine German Helmet head... I'll see :?
-
I'm as stunned as anyone that my Hungarians won Best Appearance this past weekend at Adepticon, as there were many, many great armies and the competition was fierce. Thank you to Warlord Games, the tournament organizers, and the players who attended. It was an amazing time and I hope to see you all next year!

Brilliant army, :o
Having the Toldi, Csaba and the truck from the kick-starter sitting awaiting painting what you've done is an inispiration.
At some point I'll get round to painting some infantry to go with them, but I'll need to reduce my lead mountain and finish a few projects first.
-
Well deserved - they are well painted. Congratulations.
-
Excellent work!
Would you mind sharing your "color recipes" for the Infantry?
-
Congratulations on the award!
Good looking force you have put together!
Cheers

Excellent work!
Would you mind sharing your "color recipes" for the Infantry?
Uniform color is VMC English Uniform with some midtone Green added, almost similar to Reaper Worn Olive. Kit is mostly VMC Red Leather, with some Territorial Biege for canvas and Reaper Dark Leather for strapping. Helmet color is VMC Brown Violet, "whitewash" done with Reaper Misty Grey/White reverse crippling.
Weapons are Pavement, highlighted with Pewter Grey, extreme highlights in Light Grey, then washed with P3 Armor Wash. Wood is VMC German Brown, with highlights/grain done in Biege. Glass is Admiral Blue, gem effect highlights in Cool Blue, flare in White.
-
Thanks for the info. I think I'll give it a try on some Old Glory WWI German PoW I have in the lead pile.
Cheers! 8)
-
Great project, I love your basing. All very nice

Brilliant project!

Finally got around to finishing up some new Hungarian minis in anticipation of the upcoming World at War tournament this Saturday. First up, is a 12-man squad of Hungarian Border Guards made from Brigade Games' WW1 Austrians. As well as a statue to revive the "Cult of the Hussar", Andras Hadik in Budapest

Very nice, and thanks for sharing your verdigris technique.

Two more Hungarian AFVs for this weekend's early war tournament World at War, Blitzkrieg Miniatures' Skoda T-38 (more colloquially known as the Panzer 38(t)) light tank and Warlord Games' Lancia 1ZM armored car. I tried some new techniques and changes to my old techniques on both these models and they are, I believe, the best I've done to date.

I can't believe no one's commented - these have nice, subtle weathering on them. (BTW, the 1ZM also served with the Germans on anti-partizan duty.)

I can't believe no one's commented
Indeed, the Lancia A/C is particularly nice.
-
Lovely work on every thing :-* :-* :-*
-
I painted these troops to represent lorried Hussar (mobile) infantry, using the Rubicon Opel Blitz I had painted up earlier this year for their transport. With the inclusion of the WW1-era Bergmann SMG and MG08/15, these could represent either very early (pre-1940) Hussars during the Slovakian invasion or those of late 1944-45 when pre-war stocks were raided to resupply troops during the Soviet invasion.

Fantastic stuff, it's seems whenever someone does a minor Axis force that due to them being mostly converted and/or hunted out of lesser companies/ranges they tend to be even more inspiring and these are certainly that :)
-
Indeed, really lovely work and the Hussar statue is a beautiful touch.
-
I've kept this post saved for reference when I start up my Hungarian adventure. Your pics a re very inspiring...just finished airbrushing up a Hungarian Hetzer. Great stuff!
-
Cracking work! :D
-
So cool to see the Hungarians finally making their presence felt in WWII games....mostly Bolt Action but mine will be playing under Chain of Command.
Awesome project!
