Title: What is this building? NEW BUILDING 24th Dec
Post by: baldlea on December 02, 2015, 07:36:53 PM
Hi all

I want to make a building for a sci fi "fringe" setting from this. What do you think it should be? Some sort of shop, information point... Please help.

Not sure, but it looks cool. Where's it from?

The tip or a car boot sale.

They look like GI Joe size doors...how big is it?

It looks like it could be a shop if you replaced the twin sets of doors with rolling shop-gates...replaced the small steps with a ramp for cars/trucks.  Shop door on the back side...throw an a/c vent up top.  Add a fence w/ supplies/tip/etc.

Could make for an interesting mech bay.

Corner tech store or open door cafe.  Throw some tables out front and it would fit the part.

The doors are about 55mm. A little big, I suppose.

Actually if its a fringe style setting I could see it being some sort of scrapyard come bazaar.

Amusing, but I actually think it makes a poor fire station.  :)

Cafe, fast food, it actually has a very similar lay out to a Starbucks down the road. They'll slide something in ANYWHERE.  :o

1)Subway entrance, subway either working or abandoned.
2)local regulator/peace officer's office.
3)Med-point, basic (& I mean basic) medical treatment.
4)Waiting room for the shuttle/bus
5)repair shop (with lots of scrap about).

Some kind of passport/entry control station lying outside the starport's landing pad?

Garden shop. With all those weeds in the post-apoc/sci-fi future I'm sure there will be a few green thumbs insisting on being able to get something "nice" to plant in the garden.

Reminds me of the fire station at Disney World, the Reedy Creek Fire Department

I have a very similar building. It also came from a cheap fire playset.  A bit different but with the same doors. I painted the doors bronze and the building grey and used it for a generic urban building.

Not that inspiring and I never took proper pics, but you can see  it in the side of this pic.

Blimey. Must have been made in the same Chinese factory.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm leaning toward cafe or 'bus' stop.

I'm with The_Beast here. If there's one sort of cafe that's going to make it into space we humanity colonises the galaxy it's going to be 'Star'Bucks.

It's like when Europeans took measles to the Eskimos and rats to Mauritius.

I wasn't complaining, really. Just saying, they replicate like a kind of virus.

Thanks for the suggestions above, I have another building that needs some work. I managed to procure one of the buildings in my blog post here: http://crapidfire.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/things-i-want-to-steal-from-my-4-year.html?m=1 (http://crapidfire.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/things-i-want-to-steal-from-my-4-year.html?m=1)

My son sold it to me for a tenner.

The building is shown below and the second image shows another way it can be configured (probably more useful for wargaming). So, with the same fringe/backwater world setting in mind, what is this new building?

I'll be curious to see what you make of that. I've got the same building waiting for conversion but it's missing the front white wall piece.  It does at least have the roof though.
