I'm building a town for my pirates, here are the first few things (full write up at http://dawnofthelead.com/2015/12/06/pirate-haven/):
Terrain board:

Market stalls:

-
Looking very good so far, especially the market stalls
-
This looks interesting. Do you have any particular plans for its eventual use?
-
Thanks for the comments, it'll be used as both an inspiration piece and as a game board for 28mm pirates (see this thread (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=78307.0)). I've noticed that if I have a game board at hand and I can see the progress of a project, it tends to inspire me to work on it more.
-
It's nice that you are still working on new stuff. I started following your blog long ago when you where painting zombies :) Pirate is another favourite theme of mine. I will keep an eye on it (lost hte other one in a freak parrot accident ;) )
-
Some things finished, full post here: http://dawnofthelead.com/2016/01/07/2016-kick-off/

Cheers Cherno (and sorry for the late reply, completely missed this)! Haven't been painting zombies for a while, although some undead pirates are in the works... It's great to hear that people are still reading the blog!

Work continues, here's a stable block from Warbases. Looking to paint this soon, replaced the laser-cut textures with coffee stirrers as wasn't too fond of them.

nice!

This is shaping up nicely. I like the multiple textures you've used.
-
Thanks noigrim and von Lucky! It's been painted now and I'll post it as soon as I can get some decent photos. Meanwhile, here's a wrecked cart by Ainsty:

some excellent stuff there.
-
Awesome work! I really like the basing too - the multiple tone gives it that beachy look. :-*
-
I really like the looks of this! May even inspire me to finish my pirate project. :)
-
Thanks for the kind words! It took some work to get the basing right, so happy that it shows! If you're interested, here's all my pirate stuff on my blog: http://dawnofthelead.com/category/pirates/

Love the damaged wagon.

Cheers everyone! The building shown above is now finished (write-up here: http://dawnofthelead.com/2016/02/06/finished-stable/)

Wow! That looks really good! Great finish! 8)

Very good indeed.

Please tell me you didn't cut and glue those roof tiles by hand o_o
-
Great work on the stables! :-*
When do we get to see ships? ;D

Thanks everyone!
Please tell me you didn't cut and glue those roof tiles by hand o_o
Good god no :D Available from Warbases here (http://war-bases.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=107_119) and highly recommended!
When do we get to see ships? ;D
The ship is still waiting to get finished, so likely in the next two years or so...:D

Nice one.
-
I love the way you have done the windows.
-
A treasure that's a little run down, but with plenty of charm. And only two pieces of silver a week, bargain!
-
Love the buildings.
Well done.
-
Thanks for the kind words!
I love the way you have done the windows.
You wouldn't believe how happy I am to hear this. The windows caused me a huge headache - first wondering what to do with them and then in the actual execution phase...
-
Awesome!
-
Latest addition is an Ainsty outhouse. Even pirates need a break every now and then...
-
That is a very promising board. Everything so far is gorgeous.
-
Just caught up on the thread. :-* Nice work! 8)

Thanks Silent Invader and Treebeard!

Getting rid of the evidence
Lovely
-
Lovely idea, well executed. :)
-
Nice work.
-
Some great buildings and terrain items on this thread, not sure how I missed it before now.
-
Thanks so much for the kind words! Any ideas what I should do next? Small vignettes like that are a fun distraction from doing the larger buildings etc.

I didn't realise they still do that in modern London! :o

Yep, be very careful when you are next down this way ;)
-
A pirate hanging in a gibbet.
I've been thinking about that, actually, as well as a gallows. My story for the town is that it's an old British trading outpost, and as such the gibbet would fit right in. Maybe the pirates would have left it in place, maybe with a skeleton in it...
I know that several manufacturers have that in their lines, so a very real possibility!
-
Loving what you've done with the project so far.
-
Very cool thread.
I love all the details...very well done...;)
Cheers,
Don
-
Missed this before, some great stuff going on 8)
cheers

Very nice - looking forward to the rest in the next week or so.
-
Great stuff, it's all really starting to come together. :)
-
Lemons next to the fish to keep the odor down! o_o
-
The next store will have limes and coconuts.
-
As always, thanks gents! The limes and coconuts option is completely viable...
Some more, another tooled-up Warbases build!

What a great project! Will definitely reference this when doing my own Pirates. :)

New stuff after a good long while - I repainted an aquarium ornament that I bought for five euros at a flea market. Full write-up at https://dawnofthelead.com/2016/08/24/building-renovation/

Thanks! Your pirate setup has been a huge inspiration :)

This is great stuff! looks very accurate as well.

Very nice. Period texts says that planks (for walls) and wood shingles (for roofing) were in great use in villages and small towns in French Caribbean colonies as St-Domingue etc c.1700. Stone masons were rare and more expensive to pay than carpenters (as there were many former ship carpenters amongst the people there).
-
Brilliant 8)
-
This is a great thread that I have only just stumbled upon.
Great scratchbuilding and the pimping of those MDF buildings is excellent.
Good find with the aquarium piece too.
:-* :-*
This is going to be a lovely board when you have finished.
:D

Thank you everyone for the kind words! For a picture of the table (well, tables in fact) in action:

Figures! To be honest, I've mostly used pop culture references, especially the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag game. Then again, they seem to have done their research! Here's a screenshot of the game, and behind this link (https://dawnofthelead.com/2016/02/08/virtual-pirate-tourism/) you can find a bunch more that I've used as reference.

-
Hmmm.....
That is enough of that now.
You are giving me ideas.
::)
-
I fully understand. The Assassin's Creed games are dangerous when it come to getting ideas ('Unity' had me getting ideas for a 28mm Revolution-era Paris city board).
-
Just GREAT! :-*
I also liked very much the pirate raid AAR on your blog, seems like a fun game! Please, keep going! ;)
-
A splendid looking table. :-*
-
That's a nice, bright, fun looking table! 8)
-
Great work.
-
stunning :-* :-*
-
Looks great! I want to play on that table. :)
-
Lovely table. It makes me want to get out my pirates again.

You should! Never a bad time for pirates you know :D

Added an mdf townhouse from TTCombat. I bought several larger buildings to represent the nicer part of town.

Great to see the town growing!
-
Inspirational stuff. With the Blood and Plunder Kickstarter landing soon I might have to raid this thread for terrain ideas.
-
Manatic, perfect choice of model (I really like TTCombat stuff), style and color; nice to see the town growing! ;)
-
TTCombat has a lot of buildings for several periods/themes and they are cheap.
Very nice town. :-* :-*
-
Thanks everyone! I recently bought four different TTCombat buildings, two from their Old Town series and two from Streets of Venice. They make up the nicer part of my town (that I've dubbed Port George). Here's a post I made on the subject, showing the buildings: https://dawnofthelead.com/2016/11/26/the-nicer-part-of-town/
-
nice addition
-
Thanks tomrommel1!
First addition of 2017: a skull-shaped rock from Fenris Games - intended to be a doom track marker for (I think) Cthulhu boardgames, it's a perfect fit for a pirate table.
And used in a little diorama:
-
Excellent stuff, enjoyed reading through your thread.
-
This is great stuff! I want to paint up some pirates so your thread has been most enlivening. One of my favorites is the pen near the beginning. I would like to try and build a piece like that I could use for pirates and Old West.
