Title: Wargames Foundry 28mm for WW1 East Africa?
Post by: Happy Wanderer on December 08, 2015, 11:49:27 AM
Gents,

A general question. I'm thinking on getting some 28mm minis from Foundry in their xmas special for a future project.

I've been looking at suitable troops for WW1 East Africa.

Can anyone give some ideas of what would be the best, perhaps most versatile, troops to use in the WW1 East Africa campaign from the Foundry Darkest Africa range?

I believe these are all Copplestone sculpts so they can fit in with Copplestone Castings figures as well...is that correct?

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Happy W

In my opinion, the only one you can use are askaris, ruga-ruga and british officers. Askaris and ruga-ruga could be used to represent the few irregular troops used on the german side...and british officers could pass as british officers on campaign. COPPLESTONE WW1 British are OK for the period too.

If you are not a button counter, belgian askaris can pass for belgian askaris of the period.

For the rest, I have used BRIGADE GAMES miniatures as they are compatible in size with FOUNDRY and COPPLESTONE minis.

Thanks for that info.

I had a look at the Brigade games minis - I assume the East Asia figures are the ones to look at in the WW1 range - were these Copplestone sculpts or done by someone else...just curious?

Cheers

No, the Brigade WW1 in Africa range:

Not the best designed website you will see :(

There is a guy on Bartertown selling off a rather large collection of Copplestone and Foundry figures for East Africa right now. I have no affiliation with him, but I thought I would pass it along. http://www.bartertown.com/trading/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=270093 (http://www.bartertown.com/trading/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=270093)

Thanks Aaron,

I think I'll look at the Brigade games line...seems the most complete and a touch less 'pulpy'.

Cheers

The Brigade Games range is sculpted by Mike Owen and very good. It is designed exactly for your period so I can't see anything better suited. It goes perfectly with the Foundry stuff and the stuff from Copplestones' own range (aside from the giant British infantry which don't go with anything  ;)

My WW1 East Africa consist of a mix of Brigade, Copplestone, Pulp figures and Woodbine (Gripping Beast). The only Foundry pack I would use is the British officers:
