Since being part of the playtesters for Mark Latham's upcoming Broken Legions,to be published by Osprey, I have been working on terrain pieces and warbands. I will use this thread to show what I have done :)
Please feel free to comment :)

Finished a lot of terrain pieces mostly Amera plastic moulds, and I am really pleased with the results.

Any advice on what miniatures to buy for Broken Legions or what factions there are? :p
I really dislike it when I can't buy miniatures in advance and (never) paint them.
-
Really cant tell you much as that would be breaching the confidence that Mark Latham placed with us.
If you look at my blog under the tag Broken Legion and you'll get an idea of what to get for some of the warbands that are available.
-
I hope to have a report up early in January that will also have some clues :)

No worries. Your Romans are great, by the way.

I can't wait.

Had a great game against my friend Frank yesterday. The Roman Soldiers of the Eagle took on the Germanic Barbarians on the site of an ancient temple.

Very nice! I'm looking forward to this rule set.

Great looking table.
I have some Romans and enemies I was thinking of using for a game like yours.
Broken Legions look like it might be what I am looking for.
Enjoyed your blog.
Like your Retreat from Moscow game.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks - the game is an excellent way to play ancients without having get an entire army.
My Retreat from Moscow game is not something I play anymore - no one to play with. Might be selling all my minis.
-
Indeed, it's funny that the was more uniformity and less skirmishing in the ancient days then the relatively more recent middle ages for example.
-
Great terrain and ancients. :-*
The rules might be interesting.

Finally finished the Dacian warband that I started collecting minis for back in October. Looking forward to trying them out, especially the Falxmen and the Strigoi.

Looking great!

Introduced my friend Michael to Broken Legions yesterday and he really like the game. It was a chance for the Dacians that I had painted up to make their debut and for me to try out the Romans.

Nice looking game. These rules interest me.

The rules are very nice and I very much look forward to seeing the final version.

I am actually strangely looking forward to this ruleset alot. I like the fantasy-ancients angle it takes, and it seems like a good excuse to paint up a small Roman warband. Definitely following this with a close eye.
-
I'm looking forward to these rules quite a bit - our group has played a lot of Legends of the Old West. Can anyone say if:
-Do these rules have a campaign system, including character advancement?
-Do any of the Roman factions get to use any mythical creatures, such as the Minotaur on the book cover?
-The Minotaur on the cover looks to be around 20 feet tall...does anyone know of a good figure that would work for 28mm at this height?

Yes the rules include a very basic campaign system.
No the three different Roman warband types do not have access to any mythical creatures.
I have no idea about the huge minotaur figure.
-
Can I use an elephant with my Roman band of ne'er do wells?
When are the rules out?
I am increasingly of the opinion I'm just going to sell my 28mm Romans. It's the elephant holding me back!
-
This game looks awesome and I'm looking forward to it. I want to start collecting to be ready for it.
Can anyone tell me where to find some mythological creatures from this era?
Who makes the best 28mm Romans? Is it Aventine?

Don't know about the beasts, but Aventine is my choice for Romans

Very nice looking game and minis.
Also you have succeded in adding "make an amphitheatre in 6mm" to my to do list. Thank you, I think...
Is there any place where we can find out more about these rules? Judging by the cover it looks like you can take your band of merry romans a monster huntin'
This would interest me ;-)

Osprey Publishing are the culprits!
It's a future release, I'd tell you when but their website isn't playing ball for me at the moment!

I've just been working on this, actually... It's looking good!

So ...
Elephant? Possible?

Not in the version I tested... But lots of other cool stuff.

There was actually a lot of skirmishing in ancient warfare. Many armies had dedicated skirmishers and they fought the early portion of the battle to see whose skirmishers would dominate. The side whose skirmishers won had an advantage going into the close order battle, as the victorious skirmishers could pour forward and harass the wings of the enemy phalanx or shoot them up or delay them (as needed) frontally.

This has really caught my eye. Do the rules cater for running a late Republican campaign? I have a vision of augustan legionnaries vs Egyptian mummies.

Yes.
Sort of... All of the factions have access to some 'weird stuff' from the start, but only a include mythical creatures amongst their ranks. However, all factions have the option to hire mercenaries, including cyclopes, centaurs and the like. Some scenarios also include Wandering Monsters that pose a threat to everyone (including Minotaurs) - capturing and taming one such creature could be the focus of a whole campaign!
There are older and fouler things than Orcs Minotaurs in the deep places of the world... But if I were looking for something that size... Schleich, Safari, Papo or the Disney Narnia action figures would be my first ports of call.
Elephant? Possible?
Sorry, but there are no elephants in the rules. It wouldn't be too hard to house-rule one, mind you.

It's pretty period-agnostic, so you can use whatever models you like - legionaries and Egyptian mummies are expressly covered.
