Title: Jetbike Racing
Post by: Mo on November 29, 2008, 01:33:11 AM
To follow up a bit on Rich's announcement, anyone who read it thoroughly enough saw the mention of some jetbike rules for Fantastic Worlds...

http://www.rattrapproductions.com/speakeasy/viewtopic.php?t=1438 (http://www.rattrapproductions.com/speakeasy/viewtopic.php?t=1438)

Today was the first playtest of the new jetbike racing rules we are working on. We set up a track on on 4x8 board and raced 5 jetbikes to see how the rules worked.

The racers at the starting line

The Emperor watches the race intently

...and they're off!

Mad Manx drops a steam cloud in his wake. Besides normal movement all pilots will be able to attempt special maneuvers and attacks.

All bikes have to move within a certain distance of the pylon in the picture to log the lap. (keeps pilots honest and close to the ground)

A pilot miscalculates a turn and takes an unexpected shortcut through the woods.

The guard comes out the other side of the trees but know has to go back and pick up a pylon he missed. (a swift fighter pilot maneuver at the end puts him right back in the race!)

Close Combat. The rules will allow you to take an attack at an opposing jetbike as you pass by.

Trying to catch up to the leader

A shortcut over the trees. Models can fly at any altitude, but race conditions and zealous palace guard snipers keep them close to the ground.

The final pylon is in the second floor of a building, forcing the bikes to move up to get it.

Racers flying high fighting for position

First through the building (the emperor's daughter, the prize of the race, watches from above)

Second through the structure

Winner of the playtester's cup!

Special thanks to Lanse Tryon (a.k.a. Froggy the Great) for use of his great jetbike collection

Excellent report!  Sounds like a really fun game! lol  Are the jet bikes scratch built?

All the jetbikes are either complete scratchbuilds or modifications and were, in a word, brilliant.

Where can I get the rules?

The rules will be released next year as part of Rattrap's Thrilling Expeditions Quarterly magazine. This was the first playtest of several. Lots of new ideas were exchanged and the rules are going to be tweaked and tightened.

I know this is post quite old, but I dont seem to find newer posts on this...

Any news on these rules?
Did they get published or are available anywhere?
If not does anyone has a tip on simple bikes/jet-bikes rules?

Thanks in advance.
A.

To the best of my knowledge, these rules were never published.  I'm not sure what the state of these is or is not.

And the jetbikes were all my builds.  Thanks for the kind words!

I was thinking about making some jet bikes. Your models are inspirational.

Thought I recognised your work there Froggy - that one with the shield-shape (on the far left on the starting line) - is very distinctive.

Lovely terrain too, especially the industrially-looking bits.

The bikes do look great!
As said before, they are so inspirational that made search out for rules to have an excuse to build some myself!
 lol

Sooo, if someone has or knows any set of rules for bikes/jetbikes, please let us know!

Cheers,
A.

I think there's some free Pod racing rules knocking about on t'internet, would have thought they could be readily adapted for jet bikes

These are very cool... I love grav-bikes.
I always wanted to toss some wacky races into our games of Necromunda... contestants riding odd machines made of salvage bits.

There have been some Jetbike-Race rules in an old White Dwarf, but don't know anymore the number of the issue.
I think there was an Dark Eldar Jetbike on the cover, in some arctic aeria i guess...

Just been looking on the Free Wargames Rules website's Sci Fi page and there's two more sets of pod racing rules: Formula Ace Racing Pods & Now This Is Pod Racing
