Rogue miniatures wil shortly release Robin the Hooded Men and his merry man, based on the brilliant series of the 80's. Herne the Hunter and other famous characters are on their way!

I hope so! I have no more information than this unfortunately :(

A definate must have!
I loved that series when I was a kid. I have not dared to rewatch it lest I ruin the magic of it.
Nasir was always a favorite character of mine.

I'd watch it if I were you, this magic is unbreakable ;)

Love this programme rewatched it recently and still as magical, definitely interested in this range of figs

Agreed. I personally think it's weathered the last thirty years quite well. Still trying to pluck up the courage to watch Arthur of the Britons again.
-
Stellar! The show had a rather central role in my formative childhood years as a budding devotee of fantasy and medieval fiction. I spent quite a lot of money on the DVD box sets at one point about 12 years back. Yes, some of the magic was gone, but listening to the actors' audio commentaries was a kind of bliss, even though they were very casual affairs - that's how much the show meant to me.
-
I really like these miniatures.

I have been watching this series over the last week and greatly enjoying it:)

This set could be another Frostgrave warband ;)
-
Yes defo get these for frostgrave!!

Cracking! They're on the want list. 7th Voyage cast in one go. :-*
-
They are very good sculpts!! :-*
Darrell.

Shane Hoyle did them 8)

I had not seen it seems to be available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoGAGrBHoOA
Do like the minis.
-
Have always wanted to do Robin Hood.
Never have seen a really good range.
These look very interesting.
-
They do look like fab sculpts! They should sell well.
I've thought about it a bit more (dangerous pastime for me!) and personally, I'd like to see a Robin Hood range made in Late 12th Century Anglo Saxon garb. For fitting for them historically if you're with me? (and yes I know they were fictional lol ).
Cheers,
Darrell.

These are brilliant. I was delighted when Conquest released their versions, but they don't hold a light to how these appear. I was hoping to start some Robin of Sherwood Wolfshead Rampant forces this year (just about to crack on with a Gulnar conversion), but I may have to hold fire until more of these beauties are released. Like Rhoderic, the TV series had a massive impact on my formative years.
BTW - There is a new AUDIO episode of Robin of Sherwood being made as we speak. It was crowd funded and will feature many of the original cast ( sadly Robert Addie-Gisburne) died at a very young age.

I loved the tv show as a kid and it has been on my list of 'tv series to buy' for some time now.
I had not succumbed yet due to the reasons mentioned earlier in the threrad, but will have to do now that it has been suggested that it holds up well.
I think the figures may quickly follow...
-
An interesting thing from a wargame terrain modeller's perspective in the DVD audio commentaries is that on several occasions they got to talking about how the film crew would often embellish woodland scenes by hanging bits of extra greenery all over in a not particularly realistic way, so as to make the forest look more "foresty". It was quite low-budget, and they referred to the loose greenery as "dingle".
There was also the phenomenon of "dangle", which was when an actor or extra in a fight scene would wave his weapon about in a generally fighty/menacing manner if he ran out of combat coreography before someone else did.
I suppose my point is that if you haven't seen the series since childhood, watching it anew may kill some of the magic, but in return it does give you a newfound appreciation for the fact that they managed to achieve that magic in the first place with such a low budget.
-
Thanks for the warning.
I will give in at some point so lowering ones expectations is a good thing.
I have just started watching Tour of Duty again.
The plot may be as thin as tissue paper but it still holds up pretty well, I reckon, and I am enjoying it.
Hopefully Robin will be the same....
-
My wife and I are watching the series on blue ray for the first time and it definitely still is magic :D
-
Nice sculpts, would make a great little skirmish warband.
I have the complete series of Robin of Sherwood on DVD and I'd argue they still hold up against more recent modern offerings like the Last Kingdom and Beowulf - may be the nostalgia talking though lol
-
Great figures! I was a big fan of the series. My Dad was actually in the first episode, his archery club played many of the archers at the tournament. Captain Gamma Snr. is easy to spot, he has the white hair and white beard and if my memory serves me correctly, smiles when Robin (In disguise) says "I think it might rain tonight."
I only asked Dad to get me Anthony Valentine's autograph as he was the only one in the cast who was well known at the time. Poor Dad was really uncomfortable asking him but my Mam made him. lol As it turned out Anthony Valentine was lovely.
Thanks Dad!
-
I don't think it was a particularly low budget production for the time-indeed iirc, the expense of it virtually bankrupted the production company, HTV Goldcrest...
I think it was not as successful commercially as hoped either.
-
Sorry, I wasn't being particular enough. I meant that the method of sprucing up forest scenes with hanging greenery was low-budget, and that the show overall was low-budget by our standards today. I still recall being able to tell quite clearly that the actors were wearing modern shoes/boots in a couple of scenes. That's quite low-budget by the standards I'm used to in television today (although admittedly, there's still anachronisms - right now I'm watching The Frankenstein Chronicles and I don't think the location scouts were being very finicky at all).
-
I think part of the reason for hanging greenery, was that they started filming in the North of England, in early spring, and there was not much greenery present on the trees. The extras on the Dvds have quite a few outakes of the actors slipping on mud, so I wonder if the modern shoes were more for practicality and safety...
I agree though that the budget was small compared to more contemporary productions. With their budgets they should be able to get locations right. Some of the location used for the West Country in The Last Kingdom, really didnt look right...
-
Andy/ paleskin who runs Rogue has sent these off for casting
:D
-
Great miniatures. I really like Marian and the Saracen.
-
Apparently there is a Herne on the way....plus "bad characters". Not sure who yet, but we need a Sherriff, Gisburne, Abbott Hugo, de Belleme, Gulnar , Brabancon mercenaries in unfeasible armour, oppressed villagers in stonewashed 80's rags, etc etc.
Any other ideas?
-
You guys made me watch the first episode.
Looks like this will be my new show for the next few weeks.
Of course, now I want to buy these lovely minis as well. :)
-
Hey... you complain about Robin Hood adventures you see on TV?
Did you hear about "Thierry la Fronde" who was very popular in France ...50 years ago? lol
A fictional character (in the early HYW) invented for a TV series, but obviously inspired by Robin Hood – in a French context.
http://www.ina.fr/video/I04289392
It was popular with children because it probably was the first French medieval TV series
(in a time when many French people were just buying their first TV)
and it was popular with adults because... ahem... they remembered France being occupied some years earlier
(Asterix comics were also very popular for the same reason).
When I was a kid I believed that all medieval English soldiers looked like those he was fighting! (sorry guys) :-X lol
See how Thierry can shoot his sling, while running! not many wargame rules accept this!
https://www.ina.fr/video/I05040891
OOooops sorry, out of topic... ::) very nice Robin Hood miniatures BTW, could be used in many other medieval contexts as well.
-
I think I've seen some 1/72 figures for Thierry le Fronde....... I'll have to have a look and see what a French Robin Hood looks like.
-
regards the show, one thing that does hold up is the story lines, they had some cracking plots/episodes,cleverly crafted into one hour slots
lot of british folklore got weaved into them without taking over the plots if that make sense?
Albion the sword, king arthurs round table being the 'treasure' at an abandoned castle etc etc
still a huge fan! lol 8) 8)
-
The fantasy elements really did uplift the show to my childhood self.
This guy gave me nightmares, though:

I watched that as a kid and loved it (probably because I was a big Robin Hood fan).

Who would have guessed that the Baron de Belleme was a lovely man?
These miniatures are nice - may have to indulge myself.
