Hey all,
Thanks to the awesome efforts on this board I've started work on my own VSF terrain.
The first project is a 3x3 board for IHMN and the first part of that will be Back to Back houses around a courtyard.
Using Thunderchicken's fine tutorials I've purchased a few materials and started work:
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f127/richardhumble/Mobile%20Uploads/20151218_223246_zpsbdzudvkb.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/richardhumble/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20151218_223246_zpsbdzudvkb.jpg.html)
I need to laser cut some windows and doors and mount it all to foamcard and stick it to a baseboard and make some cobbles and... well you know how it goes...
-
Looks good so far; TC has inspired you well. Wait...
Full stop.
Are you saying you do your own laser cutting? Are you a colonial?
Doug
-
Yep I've a small laser cutter its very handy...(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f127/richardhumble/Mobile%20Uploads/20151220_173152_zpsgmbwrc8m.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/richardhumble/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20151220_173152_zpsgmbwrc8m.jpg.html)

Lintels and doorsteps to go then onto the roof.
-
Oh and North West Blighty based. ;)
-
It's looking very good :)
-
Oh and North West Blighty based. ;)
The shipping, the shipping... :'(
REALLY coming along, though! :D
Doug
-
Looking great. I don't s'pose you'd produce a few sets of windows and doors for sale on here would you?
-
I suppose I could... I'll need more 1mm MDF.
I can do anything you want within reason. But I'm a hobbyist not a manufacturer ;)
For an example of what I can do see my tanks:

TheT-50 is my favourite so far:

The problem I always have is pricing. Materials cost buttons but it's time that's the problem.

Looking good Rich! :-*

Thanks
Feels like I've tiled a real roof! :o
Chimineys in work. Lintels made just need paint.

Just windowsills and lintels to go then work out an interior... and then details...
-
Very nice work Rich H they really look the part.
I have been looking for MDF back to backs myself for a few months now, given the popularity of Victorian scifi/ steampunk ect, I am really surprised that none of the well known laser cut mdf building company's make any. looks like I will have to follow your lead Rich and make my own.
-
I can laser the foamcard easily but it's the detailing that takes the time.
I managed some greenstuff 'lead flashing' around the chimneys but I'm now away until christmas eve.
Hope is to finish these off and start on the next bits. I was going to make the courtyard for the back to backs but i think i want to try something more interesting.
A row of shops or a factory perhaps? I've got a load of south eastern embossed plasticard on the way so we'll see what santa brings...
-
Been pondering my next building.
The plans are:
Tiled pub
Row of shops
Engine house and corrugated iron factory.
I'm also planning a raised railway along one table edge.
-
Great looking project!
-
Thanks.
Nearly there.

-
Bit more work done:

:o :o
Bloody 'ell!
That is coming along really well.
:-* :-*
Like VSF meets Coronation Street.
In the best possible sense, of course.
;)
-
Don't watch corrie - do they have outdoor loos too?
They have seats...
-
OK: slates all done, walls all painted (Initial anyway)
Outstanding is currently:
Wall cap stones
Chimney
Windows for the wash house
Doors for the wash house and toilets
Lintels for 8 windows and 3 doors
Back gate archway
Main gate and back gate.
Cobbles... lots of cobbles (Or flagstones)
Bit of paint...
-
That's looking REALLY good! :o
-
Cheers! Nearly there. Windows and door are in the wash house and the wall caps are on too.

Excellent work! :-*
-
Accidentally started on a coal yard in the mean time...
-
If I say Oh, Crikey one more time, I'll have to be called 'Penfold'.
Okay, call me Penfold!
Doug
-
Still need to do the lintels, window ledges and door steps.
I've also got to do the gates but I want to work out the cobbles first.
The coal yard will get an office and weighbridge.
-
I've also got to do the gates but I want to work out the cobbles first.
Plenty of suggestions available to a search here. As I recall, top contenders are Lemax Xmas matts, embossed wallpaper, faux leather faux basketball material, and split peas. As for the last... :o ::)
Actually, sounds TERRIBLE fiddly, but the person that used 'em claimed something like 'tip the surface, tap lightly, and they sort themselves out, mostly...' :o ::)
Doug
-
Yes been looking for easy cobbles or pavers but it looks like there is no easy way.
Basketball leather stuff looks great but I can't find it in the UK for a sensible price :(
Split peas or lentils are a bit big. Couldn't find any suitable wall paper either.
Will check out lemax Thanks
-
Lemax stuff I've found comes in two patterns, random pavers and brick. May be too big in either case, and not terribly 'cobble.'
Thing with round veggies, you coat them so they fill a bit, and they don't look huge.
Natch, nothing I've ever actually tried.
Doug
Edit: The thing about Xmas decorations (like Lemax) they've already been on sale (in the US), even cheaper after the holiday, and dead easy to lay out and cut vinyl mats. ;->=
Edit, part deux: AND if you try the search here, be sure to check both VSF and Gothic Horror.
-
You can use Sago for cobbles as well, it is usually smaller.
-
Gave up on cobbles. Flagstones are much easier!
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f127/richardhumble/Mobile%20Uploads/20151230_143209_zpswll245z5.jpg) (http://s46.photobucket.com/user/richardhumble/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20151230_143209_zpswll245z5.jpg.html)
-
Fair enough! :'( ;)
-
Hehe with those flagstones it is starting to look more and more like my old elementary school yard. :D
You have some really evocative builds, keep em coming.
-
Cheers guys!
I'm planning the next build now... Not quite sure which way to go.
-
Those flagstones work just fine. :)
-
Cheers!
My next project will be this winding engine house but it'll be converted into a generator house.
The huge chimney is pretty impractical so it'll be reduced to about 200mm or so. Well it might be...
I'll place it in a yard full of dangerous power distribution stuff.
I really need some more scatter terrain to fill up the open spaces, my current terrain is very 'closed' with limited access, will make clearing each block very tricky! I've got some cable reels but I really need to build/buy some crates or similar.
Oh and some roads would be nice, if I could find the colour printer power lead I've got some nice PDFs that would work reasonably.
I'm also looking for cheapo hornby railway stuff, I fancy an industrial light railway between factories.
I'll just use OO/HO and call it narrow gauge.
-
Looks good! Cereal box card for the flagstones?
-
Yep ;) And the slates.
-
I like these as well :)
cheers
James

Looking forward to the start of the generator planet :)
