Making the most of having a long weekend and especially as my son wasn't at work either we managed to get some FIW action on the gaming table.
We played a simple "raid" game using the Song of Drum and Tomahawk rules.
My son set up the homestead defenders first and then I set up the Canadians and Huron raiders in the tree line. Although I had the superior numbers, the dice rolls were definitely in the defenders favour today. Having lost four of my warriors I decided to make a tactical withdraw.
A few in-game photos -

The stalwart defenders

The reserved Canadians

And the lacklustre Hurons
The defenders ... defend ... very well

And the raiders eventually fall back

As can be seen by them hiding in the trees being taunted by "Old Jenkins"
A very enjoyable game had by all. Figures mostly from Galloping Major, Redoubt and a couple of Northstar Mohawks and Bluemoon settlers, some painted by Flags of War and the rest my me.

Excellent table, figures and painting , you,ve certainly captured the " feel " of the period. I particularly like the corn fields , I,ve never been able to represent them. Look forward to more posts.

Great looking game. ;D

Agree, a lovely set up and AAR.

I am another who is taken with your terrain.
Well done, love it.

Thanks guys for the positive comments; it was good to get a game in as we hadn't played for ages.

Thank Belisarius, I used the JTT model railroad ones, which I fitted onto some random pattern movement trays and also used 25mm round mdf bases also with some stalks on. This allows a figure to "hide" in the cornfield. There's quite a lot of discussion about different ideas of cornfield representation here - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=83602.30 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=83602.30)
Looking forward to the next game, too ...

Awesome job, Ramirez! Love the figs and terrain, too. I think my favorite is that incredibly cool and rustic looking cabin, along with your colorful pumpkin patch. That shot of the defenders on the fence, with the cornfield and cabin in the background is a classic.
Can I link your AAR on the Song of Drums and Tomahawks battle reports page of our website?
Oh, and tell Old Jenkins to give 'em Hell!!!

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your kind words. The game is very enjoyable and really captures the flavour.
Can I link your AAR on the Song of Drums and Tomahawks battle reports page of our website?
Please feel free to link the AAR. If you want any other phots I can PM them to you. I'll post some details of the corn, snake fence and log cabin a bit later.

3mm MDF base, 6mm softwood dowels and a rectangle of cork tile for the floor. I have a couple more cabins in production, which I'll post phots of when their finished.

Very effective, the cabin is great, especially the chimney. ;D
-
Great idea on the mud chinking (technical term, that...) between the horizontal dowel logs! Never considered doing that, but know it is something that was done. I'll have to steal that idea on my next cabin.
Please do tell how you did the chimney. That really draws the eye and makes the cabin a great piece of eye candy!

The chimney is made from a shaped solid styrofoam core with thin (1.5mm dia.) bamboo skewers glued to it in alternating layers. It's time consuming but I'm pleased with the end result. Once the glues dried I filled the gaps with ready mixed filler (spackle). I let the filler dry for about half an hour, then I tamp it in place with an old, stiff 1" paintbrush.

Thanks Mike, that was the main thing I picked up on my research. What doesn't show is the timber fillers used to reduce the chink before applying the mud mortar. Once again it's filler/ spackle tamped in place with an old brush. I've also done the inside of the cabin, too. Please feel free to steal the idea ...
Luckily enough there's a lot of details available, especially internal photos showing how the fireplaces work. There are a couple more cabins in production and I've got an idea for a two room cabin similar to the one at the Museum of Immigration in Northern Ireland (my closest refernce source without flying to the states :) ).

Very enjoyable scenery and minis! :)

Great work on the terrain pieces! :-*

These are awesome mate. Giving me some great ideas. I love your snake rails fencing as well. :-*

Thanks chap,
I used this internet found pic as a bit of inspiration -
(https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5768/23324496539_5eb24fe8ab_c_d.jpg)
The snake fencing was really easy to make from timber off-cuts, which I undercoated black and dry brushed with several, every lighter, grey highlights.
Even managed to get some of your old Hurons on the table, too ...

I'm sure the settlers would have used both if it was available lol

I noticed your thread - the Rangers are looking good. The figure availability is good and Galloping Major and Redoubts' miniatures are great to paint.

Lovely stuff Harvey, nice game, brilliant scenics and great to see how nicely our figures "co-operate" with Redoubt's.
