I put an order in for some reaper minis and got these two the others are on back order.
This is the first fantasy mini's I have painted in 20 years (god that was a long time ago)
Inspired by Siaba's young kingdoms thread I have painted these highlanders as young kindoms barbarians,
what do you think?
I'm quite pleased but the checked kilts drove me nuts o_o

I'm quite chuffed with the results, and hope the rest of my order turns up soon :?

I see that a few are watching but no comments, it would be great if you could even if you hate them.

Nice to see some Highlanders.
I just have to tell you, that the bulky cloth around the waist + the cloth extending around the shoulder should have been checked, too :)
The figures are wearing a 'Belted Plaid' which is the predecessor of the modern kilt, and it is all in one piece. I know, I own one.

Bugger so you are telling me that I have to paint more checks o_o
tghe whole thing checcked would fit nicely in to the young kingdoms thing I'm doing better it was just my skill really, ok you have convinced me I'll paint them.
did you like the overall look though?

Absolutely. Nice skin tones, the hair, especially on the top one is great - I also like it because of the choice of colour. And the leather cuirass looks very good, too.
The 'muted down' appearance is very realistic for barbarians - filth, plant dye, natural wool, all would contribute to this. Also the colours of the check pattern could be interpreted as undyed white and black wool, which would be the easiest and fastest to manufacture.
For painting check patterns, try looking at this:

Thanks for the link.
I have looked at it before and will try the checked pattern
the grey hair looks better because the black shows it off well,
i think maybe i should have used a darker brown underneath for the brown hair.

Nah, the brown hair is fine, too - the greyish just pops out - the beard looks almost like a photo (well, tecnically, it is... but you get the meaning lol )

I will paint the checked pattern on the rest
and will post more when finished and when the rest of my order turns up ???

Nice painting, always like seeing painted Celts. ;)

Just saw this thread, very nice looking minis. I was just wondering how the chieftain was going to swing that "great murtherin" sword with only one hand? :D By the way the hair looks good

I love this range of minis and you have done a great job, I agree with Argonor the plaid around the waist needs a check pattern
-
I like 'em Dodge! Especially the chieftains streaks of grey in his hair.
Rod
P.S. I had no clue what "chuffed" meant... I had to look it up. So this post was educational too. :)

Just noticed this thread today.
There never can be too many painted celts.
Nice work, I especially like the chieftain's beard and hair.

Thanks for the comments I still need to redo the checked pattern on the blue bits though.
