I've just finished a load of Oldhammer Citadel Orcs for a customer and thought you'd enjoy seeing them. I did a mix of skin tones - green, grey, light brown and dark brown - for a motley look to the warband. It was a real pleasure to put brush to some of these old classics. I hope you like them.

Wow! Proper orcy they are! 8)
I've got that one with the axe and visored helmet (centre back, first shot) on the workbench at the mo. I think I'll bin him… ;)
They are just great!

Nice! Real old school orcs.
-
Wish they were mine. :(
-
Fantastic! :o
You've breathed some amazing life into them. I love all the different tones/colours you get on a single face. Any chance of some hints or tips? Is it done with many washes or dry brushing different colours in there? In particular I'm talking about the red/pink you get around the mouth and eyes.

UBERCOOL! The Old Orcs look WONDERFUL...GREAT selection of colors, OUTSTANDING brushwork, AND BEAUTIFUL bases. VERY WELL DONE indeed!

Proper dark and evil, not Kawasaki green like most get painted.

Thanks for the kind words guys, they were a load of fun to do in fairness.

Not too tricky really, it's just about putting a bit of extra time into it. I paint them as normal but don't highlight around the eyes, mouth and near the tips of the fingers (and toes, if they haven't got boots). Then I just paint those bits in with a flesh shade. Keep the paint nice and thin to blend in with the rest of the skin colour and it's all surprisingly simple in all honesty.

Sorry, they've already been packed up! Paints used? Urm ... lots of different ones really. Mostly Vallejo, but possibly with a dash of Foundry and/or Citadel. I mix my own shades up in 4-stage sets for convenience.

Inspiring stuff! :-*

So ... you tidied up the desk then?
Thanks guys, these old sculpts really are the bulldog's swingers and inspire much love in me.

I agree, great brushwork and I'm also a big fan of what you did around the eyes and mouths.
-
Amazing, subtle and wonderful paint job on some brilliant classic figures. Boy, Citadel knew how to make figures back then...
-
There's not a lot to add really. ;)
I did brace myself for faces the same colour as the edge of their bases, when I read hammer Orc and warband in the same title .Well thought out as always .
