Hi Folks
Work and Domestics have prevented me from being active for the past month but I have been busy building my latest project - the English Civil War.
I 'll keep an update here on this thread but most of the work will be reported on the blog.
As of today I have finally assembled the hundreds of plastic Warlord ECW troops and the long, but hopefully fun job of painting this lot starts from today. I have set myself the goal of finishing this by the end of June. Wish me luck.

Bloody 'Ell Giles, you don't do things by half! :o lol
I have n doubt you will finish this on time ;)
-
Oh Nick, I expect 80% until next Thursday and the rest until Monday the 8th of February. So, when will you get your second box for the royalist, giles? ;) lol
-
That is quite a project ;D. Good luck.
-
Wow, Giles, wow :o
Respect !!
Edited as for some reason wow had been autocorrected as woe!!!
-
I would need years to even assemble that amount of plastic. Painting it we would be talking decades.
Best of luck to both you and your sanity.
-
Oh Nick, I expect 80% until next Thursday and the rest until Monday the 8th of February.
lol
Probably ;) lol
-
Good Luck!
-
That's somewhat over a year's worth of painting for me :o
You are barmy.
-
The ECW is a great period to play as you can go with big blocks of figures down to small groups of skirmishers and everything in between. They're a little larger than Warlord but Bicorne do some lovely character figures.
You're going to need a bigger shed soon!
-
Cheers Guys...I'll keep progress posted
The rest of the guns, gun crew and mounted officers arrived today.
Just waiting on some Currassiers and the Army will be complete.
Off to do some painting !! ;D
-
Bloody 'Ell Giles, you don't do things by half! :o lol
I have n doubt you will finish this on time ;)
You can that again! :o

More to come soon...

Your output always amazes me. I wish I had half your commitment!

I think you need to have a Cornet with a personalised standard with a latin motto 'SODDUS MAXIMUS'!
-
Following on from my cuirassiers I have started painting the rest of the parliamentary horse - and I have set myself a challenge - paint all five regiments in five days !
:o Bloody hell Giles! I managed to paint two figures yesterday and was very proud of myself. Five regiments in five days? You nutter!

Great work Giles
Are you trying to compete with Mr Bibbly in the output race?
-
Andy - I am on a roll - I have over 300 infantry to paint when the horse are done. I am committed to getting this lot done by May !
-
Bloody hell, Giles!
That is insane progress.
:o
Andy - I am on a roll - I have over 300 infantry to paint when the horse are done. I am to be committed to getting this lot done by May !
Fixed that for ya, ya mad bugger!
:D
You will have to retitle your website as 'Warehouse Wars' soon.
-
lol lol lol lol
-
What an ambitious project!
I'd wish you luck but your already steaming through it!
Are you ahead of target or going at the pace you've already decided?
Best Iain

Ya really are one mad bugger, ya know!
o_o o_o o_o
It is a shame you were not around during the ECW.
The bloody thing would have been done and dusted in a week.
;D ;D
-
Oh my sainted aunt.
The pace of this is incredible. :o
-
More figures painted in a day than I have in a year. The shame!
-
Cheers guys...just 200 plus infantry to paint ;)
-
Well done.
That is a lot of time painting.
May I ask, how many hours did you take to paint all the figures?
-
Well done.
That is a lot of time painting.
May I ask, how many hours did you take to paint all the figures?
I reckon each regiment took 2-3 hours. I cheated somewhat by doing all 60 horses, tack etc in one sitting of about 4 hours. Add another hour for all the bases.
The riders only 12 of them in each unit took a couple of hours...that's 10 minutes per figure
Please note that this does not include assembly, adding grit to base or priming. I did all the figures in one go for this stage.
I am tackling the infantry by regiment ...40 figures at a time. I'll time the process and feed back on the blog and here
-
I can report steady progress on the ECW Army - 200 of the 280 core infantry now painted, dipped and varnished - the rest almost done...
A bigger update report on the blog
http://shedwars.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/ecw-project-infantry-steady-progress.html (http://shedwars.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/ecw-project-infantry-steady-progress.html)
Some of the many painted footsoldiers
(http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j375/ErictheShed/ECW/i2_zpsrxp3uhjg.jpg)
Hopefully get the rest done this weekend
-
You're a one man sweatshop Giles! It's a much underrated period and nice to see it getting the Shed treatment. Did you check out the Bicorne character figures? They may well be too large for Warlord but they are very nice.
-
Excellent productivity Giles
-
Oh, Giles, I think shed assimilates you to a painting machine. I am very jealous. My lead mountain needs a Giles...
-
Not a period of interest - tried it once and painted some stuff but didn't work for me - but your productivity is inspiring. It's all a matter of well organized assembly line processes. Once upon a time I could put out 250 painted and textured based figures in a month or less. Hope to return to such levels soon now that so many worldly distractions have faded into the background. Keep inspiring me (or is that shaming me?)
Go, man, go! :-*
-
Great painting.
Now really, how many people do you have in your shed,
painting all those figures. lol
-
Finished painting all the troops at the weekend....
29th January looked like this...
21st March looked like this
(http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j375/ErictheShed/ECW/t7_zpstx6cmbku.jpg)
Just got to finish basing and add flags...
If anybody asks that works out at 7.5 minis painted per day...
Cheers
-
That's incredible. ECW Shed Style!
-
Great work.
It should be inspiring to all of us that you can paint so many figures.
You have inspired me to kick in painting my AWI project.
Don't know if I can match your output.
But 30 figures a week is my goal.
That would be 300 painted in 10 weeks.
-
This output is superhuman! :o
How do you do it? What is your method?
-
Outstanding, great discipline shown, wish I could apply myself as well as you. :)
-
What does your wife say about all the miniatures your son must paint at night? lol
Great work!
-
Wow great work Giles
When did you find the time to sleep
-
You're going to need a bigger shed.
;)
-
You're going to need a bigger shed.
;)
Funny you say that - just been measuring up for a new concrete base. Going to add another 12 feet - The new shed will be 35ft long !
-
Funny you say that - just been measuring up for a new concrete base. Going to add another 12 feet - The new shed will be 35ft long !
lol
Are you going to extend the size of the table further or is the new area just to house your collection?
-
The plan (which is constantly changing) will be to have two tables. The largest will be 5ft x 15ft (similar to current one) - the second will be smaller at 4ft x 6ft.
Most of the new space will be dedicated to storage :D
Hopefully I'll get the concrete base done in next month - Ill then assemble the new shed butted up to the old before I cut through.
With a bit of fortune this should all be done by BLAM ! (as I said it is a plan, and Mrs Shed has signed off on the idea). The only stumbling block is the cash ! About £2k >:(
-
You need to move Mrs Shapley to the shed, and turn the house into the wargames facility... :D
-
You need to move Mrs Shapley to the shed, and turn the house into the wargames facility... :D
lol
He will have to change his name soon as Shed will no longer be appropriate lol
-
Eric-in-da-house-innit
;)
-
What a tremendous effort, and they all look great and now you will have more space for more armies!
Best Iain
-
Maybe the idea is that the family move into the Shed and Giles' wargames stuff moves into the house!
-
Maybe a tent in the garden for the family and you can use the shed as workplace and the house for the finished stuff?
-
F@#king hell! How did you manage to paint them sooo quickly! :o Have you trained your cat to help?
-
More like Eric-the-hanger!
-
With a bit of fortune this should all be done by BLAM !
Future BLAM north at Eric's place?
-
Thanks Guys for all the humour....
Future BLAM north at Eric's place?
Current BLAM is about 400 yards from my shed - if its all finished by October I'll do guided tours
and before you ask it is NOT the Thursday excursion
F@#king hell! How did you manage to paint them sooo quickly! :o Have you trained your cat to help?
a minimum od one hour a day - most times before I start work
Maybe the idea is that the family move into the Shed and Giles' wargames stuff moves into the house!
Mrs Shed thinks it should be the other way round ;)
More like Eric-the-hanger!
I was thinking Eric the Long Shed....
but then Long Shed Wars doesn't work..
As of tonight I have just finished painting all the commanders ...so just the bases to do and I have finished...
-
Wow. Impressive progress.
On the bases, will you leave the outer lips brown or are you going to try and blend them with a green coloration? While they look kind of cool as display bases I suspect they look better on table with green - just a thought. Or maybe they are just for storage and not movement trays?
One hour a day of dedication gets allows amazing progress. The challenge for most of us is the discipline of keeping up that hour a day.
-

Delighted to report all the bases are now done... :D
Not the best picture but certainly enhances the unit..a full step by step approach to how the bases were dressed is on the blog

Just the commanders to base and the standards to make up and the job is complete
-
Both Parliamentarian (mine on left) and Royalist forces (my mate Mark's) go on the table - over 1000 x 28mm figures!
The table is NOT big enough
We'll be taking close up shots of the forces as they go head to head in May
You can follow progress on the blog - latest post just features this picture and storage

thanks for following
-
For a 1:1 you only need 9000 more ;)
I hope you find the fitting table for a game. P&S-rules?
-
Yup Pike & Shotte rules...going with Cropredy Bridge as the first game - we only need about 50% of what we have painted
Once I have the extension built the table will be extended...in a fashion
Its going to be fun
-
Good golly!!!! :o :o :o
-
Thats a lot of miniatures :o
-
Bleedin' Neck!
:o :o
-
Incredible Giles. You are a painting machine. Personally, I don't like the Warlord ECW plastics, but I cannot fail to admire the scale of your ambition. And en masse like that, it's a damned impressive spread. Old school but rather magnificent.
-
Thanks for all the positive comments folks...
The first game is scheduled for Monday post bank holiday - photos will appear then
-
Impressed by your output! :)

Absolutely fantastic work, sir! 7.5 minis a day is a phenomenal work rate. Good luck with the new shed, will you be known as "Two Sheds" in future? My first real wargames army was ECW (Royalist of course, though), 25mm Minifigs, back in the '70s. I've still got boxes of them in the roof.
Looking forward to seeing the battle reports soon. :-*
-
Never mind 'Two Sheds', you'll have to change your nomme de guerre to 'Warehouse Eric'! lol
That's some impressive output there my good man, I salute you!
-

-
I know your secret, Giles. You do not sleep. Bigger Shed, complete ECW Army and now the gun emplacement. What will come next??? A fortress????
-
Nicely done Giles 8)
-
I think the new expansion of the shed is just to house the chained up painting slaves.
Chained ud painting slaves is the only reasonable explanation to such a massive output.

That is magnificent.
-
As always you're game is awesome. It makes the rest of us wish we could live in the shed.

It makes the rest of us wish we could live in the shed.
Sadly there is not enough room and I'd be breaking a lot of rules letting people live in my shed...what would the neighbours say
