Title: Building a Frostgrave table for 8 players ***UPDATED*** Table Finished!
Post by: Xintao on March 01, 2016, 02:06:22 PM
In 16 days I head off to the wargaming convention, Cold Wars, In Lancaster PA. I'm running an 8 player game of Frostgrave. Here are some pics of my work so far.

4 boards that are 2'x4'. Two of the boards I had from my game I ran at Fall In, but this time I'm adding 2 feet to the table lenght.

Boards are textured and painted.

I love using foamboard to make things. The Dollar Store brand, the paper is easy to peel

Games Workshop Age of Sigmar terrain, awesome. The game...not so much...

I've made some progress on my Frostgrave table that I'd like to share. The convention, Cold Wars is only a week away, yikes.

The Numinous Occulum from Games Workshop on a hill above Frostgrave. The Pink Insulation foam is awesome for terrain building but, boy does it make a mess.

Pretty good chocolate gold coins.

I ran 2 games, with 8 players. 4 players on a team. Treasures down low were worth 1 point, and treasures on all the raised areas were worth 3 points(changed to 5 points on Saturday) Friday night it was a dead tie, 27 points each. Saturday night was Good 27 and Evil 23. It came down to one of the good apprentices casting Mud under an evil player at the board edge preventing him from getting off the board with a 5 point treasure. Each game was a great group of players and we did about 8 turns in 3.5 hours. Pretty good for 8 people, a huge board and monsters trying to kill the players.

Wow, that board is great.  :-* 8) :)  Obviously individual raised areas like walkways and buildings are important to have in the game, but how much did you think having a whole section of the board raised added to the gameplay? I've been considering something similar.

Great looking table. I would just recommend adding few pillars under the long bridge.

A question for you guys that ran Multi-player games of 6 - 8.

I'm shortly running a campaign that looks like it's gonna have about 12 in it. We're going to be playing 1 night a fortnight, and 2 or 3 games a night so I'm thinking of splitting the 12 players into two 6 player groups, or three 4 Player groups.

How did your games go with multiple players involved? Did you have to increase the table area significantly? Were the players hanging around waiting for your turn to come around? Did players get mauled or miss out if they went last?

We ran our initial campaign as 4-player games, on 4'×4' tables. Each player's deployment area was a 12" square in the corner (so the warbands started 2' apart like they do in a standard game). Worked great.

There is a bit of hanging about ...especially if some players are slow or new to the game. Any more than four and it does not work well. The one game we played with more than four we splt into factions so all the Group A warbamds who were in a loose alliance moved then all the Group B.

That's a good idea. I've got 14 players now and I was hoping to run at least 1 game with eveyone in it, but that would be (literally) hours between goes so the Group idea is a good way to go.
