Welcome to Gbanga National Reserve!

Awed by its beauty and diversity, early 19th-century explorers dubbed the the forested hills of Gbanga "The Eden of Africa".

The park is home to many plants and animals.

The most spectacular being the african forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis), normally only found in the Congo Basin.

After independence in 1962, the area was declared a national park and has since then drawn visitors from far and wide.

Since the beginning of the civil war, tourism has dwindled and safari groups like this one are a rare sight today.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/7_zpsckrci9pr.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/7_zpsckrci9pr.jpg.html)

Hold on, these arenīt tourists, are they?

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/8_zpskkuuyznv.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/8_zpskkuuyznv.jpg.html)

Definitely not. Rango Tseko militia poachers by the look of it. Making some side money hunting the endangered elephants for their tusks.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/11_zpslfs7zl4e.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/11_zpslfs7zl4e.jpg.html)

Luckily the animals have guardians looking out for them. Well armed guardians...

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/12_zpslv7trqjk.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/12_zpslv7trqjk.jpg.html)

Led by the british mercenary and ex-para, major Miller, the Gbanga Wildlife Rangers enters the scene. With UN backing, they are a small but well equipped elite force, independent from the corrupt government. Most recruits are stemming from the indigenous Kwe people of the Gbanga region.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/13_zpsysdt3iit.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/13_zpsysdt3iit.jpg.html)

The rangers manages to cover a lot of gound before the drunken militiamen are alerted.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/14_zpshd88zzm4.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/14_zpshd88zzm4.jpg.html)

Their leaders orders the mob to take up defensive positions along the stream.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/DSC_00762_zps7hmjw8ls.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/DSC_00762_zps7hmjw8ls.jpg.html)

The battlefield as seen from the ranger Cessna above. The poachers camp in the middle of the lower part of the picture and the rangers approaching from the top.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/16_zpsxcunhz3b.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/16_zpsxcunhz3b.jpg.html)

They outnumber the rangers 2:1 and their leader, Commander Virus, belive their numerical superiority should tip the balance in his favour. He takes cover behind the technical to the left and orders his men to fire at will. Hunting men is no different from hunting beasts, he assures his men.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/20_zpselb7exi9.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/20_zpselb7exi9.jpg.html)

Major Miller fires the first shot...

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/18_zpsoixvdplq.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/18_zpsoixvdplq.jpg.html)

killing the gunner on the technical and causing the driver to panic...

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/19_zpstximuhgi.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/19_zpstximuhgi.jpg.html)

leaving an outraged commander Virus and his cronies without cover. The poor morale of the militiamen in general and the driver in particular decides the outcome of the battle.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/21_zpshkzbymvk.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/21_zpshkzbymvk.jpg.html)

A hailstorm of accurate lead causes confusion and panic among the poachers.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/22_zpsbpj8cbc8.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/22_zpsbpj8cbc8.jpg.html)

At two occasions, the leaders even execute their own men to maintain order!

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/23_zpsjpqtujrz.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Rumble%20in%20the%20Jungle/23_zpsjpqtujrz.jpg.html)

But when Commander Virus (who was left without cover due to the cowardice of the car driver) is killed all cohesion melts away and the few survivors flee before the advancing rangers spearheaded by the Fuchs APC.

The elephants of Gbanga shall live to fight another day!

(for those of you who wonders, the Uncivil Wars rules are still being tuned and tweaked. Release date tba)

Thank you for all comments! It is what makes me go through the hassle of putting another AAR together :)

Lindegaard - I am using my own ruleset, "Uncivil Wars". It is currently under testing, but each try makes it run smoother than the last.
