Title: Harold's Revenge - a battle report for Blood Eagle
Post by: Craig on March 31, 2016, 05:19:15 AM
"The Viking Raiders emerged from beneath the trees and gazed upon the lands ahead. A church sat defenceless amongst a collection of wooden hovels. Johan had heard about the One God and the wealth hoarded by His priests."

And so begins a fantastic battle report by Lee Brady. I cannot begin to recommend you read this highly enough!

You can ding this here:  http://haroldsrevenge.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/blood-eagle-raid.html

I really want to give this game a go but there is a lot of Victorian stuff on my wargaming itinerary over the next couple of months...... hopefully someone at the club will pick up a copy (hope you're reading this chaps!  :D ).

Thanks very much Craig, I've put together a post game report that sets up the next game in our ongoing Saga and also includes an overview of the rules. Not quite a review (we need to get a couple more games under our belt first), but hopefully useful to those who haven't played before.

and whatever else, a very strong endorsement for cloth / felt terrain cloths with effective placement of terrain pieces: great looking set-up  :-*

This AAR strongly supports my suspicion, that BE is just the kind of ruleset I've been waiting for to get my Dark Age gaming started!
That kind of warband-size is manageable to get on the table without compromizing the painting standard.

Ordered it Tuesday from North Star, and, hopefully, it will arrive somewhen next week.

Our Viking Saga continues with 'Making off with the Spoils"

We play on the conservatory table using an old GW mat. It's a bit bright for my tastes. Most of my scatter terrain tends to use darker shades of static grass, but you can't really tell in the photos. In this game I deployed my two larger woodland corner pieces. The idea behind these was to create larger terrain on which to place woodland. So rather than having smaller woodland chunks separated by bright gaps of green, the woodland would look more unified. Hopefully I'll find time to make some more pieces like this. All of the trees are individually mounted on 2p coins and attached via magnets. This means they can be stored more easily and moved out if the way when playing with larger units. I have more on the paint table mounted on larger 40mm bases. In this game my son placed the terrain and chose to create a wide woodland glade with various bushes and rocky outcrops to hinder my movement.

It is a tale to tell your grandchildren on a cold winter's night around the hearth in your mead hall Lee  :D
I'm really looking forwards to seeing how this saga develops.

I have one of those mats as well, damned good value now I think back how much I paid for it.

Another brilliant report.

I love the scattering of corpses and the flock og crows around the bridge.

Well, I'd better get on with constructing and painting a couple of warbands (vikings and saxons, of course), so I can get stuck in, too!

I think I have some Amera river sections somewhere that might see some love, soonish, too  o_o
