Title: Mexico in the 19th Century
Post by: rebelyell2006 on April 03, 2016, 06:15:10 AM
I've been having some odd drunken thoughts related to Mexico in the Mexican-American War and the French Intervention, as I live in an area that was conquered and annexed by the US Army in 1846.  My question is in three parts:

(1) Are there good gaming-related resources and miniatures related to the Mexican-American War of 1846-1847?  I imagine the Mexican-American War would be a good fit for Black Powder and Fire & Fury.
(2) Are there good gaming-related resources and miniatures related to the French Intervention?  One of my plans related to my Texas Unionist brigade has been a regiment of Tejanos in captured/smuggled Zouave uniforms, but did the European interventionists wear Zouave-style uniforms in Mexico?  If I remember correctly, the interventionists included France, Belgium, and Austria.
(3) This may be very off-topic, but are there reenacting/reproduction uniform resources related to the Mexican-American War and the French Intervention?  I understand there was a Saint Patrick Battalion serving for Mexico, and I am a pasty redhead so that would be an excellent fit for me.

There are several threads on here that deal with this subject. Some of the members here do some very excellent figure lines for the Mexican/American War & for the French intervention. Gringo 40s & Boot Hill miniatures just for starters. I have quite a collection of both Mexican republican & French intervention forces. A number of my wargaming mates have large collections of Mexican/American war figures too.

Great Britain was another intervention country, though we had the good sense to get un-involved before the fighting started, however if you want to go down the 'What if ?' line you could include them.

Old Glory has a specific range for the mexican-american war as well as Alamo period (Texan war of Independence).

Watch the following movie for good ideas - One Mans Hero 1999 (with Tom Berenger).

For the Mexican - American war there is a great lack of reenactors sources but if you Google for images you will find some. If not pm your email and i will see what i have and send you.

Get the osprey book for that period as well as Brassey´s book of the Mexican American war by Ron Field. A good source of information.

Yes, there were zouaves and algerian tirailleurs in the french forces.
