Looking good! 8)
December is such a long way off yet; can't wait...

I'll say it...this excited me far more than the Force Awakens trailer. This looks...properly good!

I see at least four AT-ATs...get busy. Oh, and a Deathstar, if you could be a doll and knock one out. Thanks.

This sums it up for me.
Real storm troopers, ATATs and all. .. Yeah!
-
That looks incredibly cool...thanks for posting the link as I had no idea this flick was even out there. Looks like a good movie, as opposed to 'The Force Awakens' which was, well, better than previous episodes, not too good....
So who knows the basic storyline???

Trailer looked quite good.
But then, I thought the trailers for The Force Awakens looked great.
-
I was talking to someone else and figured out why this appeals a bit more to me. First off, as it's outside the normal franchise story line (essentially) they don't have to address A, B, C, and D with each film. They don't have to justify much, or indicate where certain characters are, or what they're doing. Also it doesn't necessarily have to be as campy/dumbed-down as some of the normal films are. I imagine it's a PG-13 film still, but I feel like the concentration might be a bit more adult.
I know that sounds odd. Add the fact that it's proper retro setting (I literally got goose bumps just seeing the rebel trooper's helmet in the opening shot) and I'm even more enthused.
The big question: what if, somehow, these off-shoot films do better than the normal ones? Or received higher ratings, etc. That could be odd. I hope they do not, in any way, dumb down the off-shoot films to protect the main storyline films.
-
(I literally got goose bumps just seeing the rebel trooper's helmet in the opening shot)
Glad I wasn't the only one lol
From our point of view these off shoot films have far more potential as they show the more 'normal' side of Star Wars and could be a lot easier to game but I don't think they'll top the mainstream films. Close, but not over.

Excellent! I didn't even know they were doing another parallel schmequel. Is this for cinema release?
Looking good.
-
i guess this one will lead the style on Spin offs, like TFA pretended to regain the character's treatment of the original trilogy. Just setting the parameters on wich evolve next episodes....
o_o
-

I didn't know either... so that's not a sequel to The Force Awakening? Love Star Wars but never been a "die hard" fan... so I'm a little lost. Still, it looks pretty good 8)
-
Nope, as I understand it they want to release a spin-off film each year between the main "Episode" films.
-
it's the story of how the rebel alliance got the DEath star schemes ( which later were hidden in R2D2). Thus, Just Before EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE
-
Wasn't it Bothan spies that got the plans?
Wait... the Bothans died getting the plans for the second Death Star...right?
This looks like a fun twist for the franchise, a more military side of the story.
-
Well I'm excited!
-
We see:
Rebel troopers
Stormtroopers
Star destroyers
Death Star
At-ATs
Yavin
an imperial (grand) admiral (or something similar)
We loved all that and still do.
Admit it: It has the potential to bring back the greatest villain ever to the big screen - the dark lord himself, DARTH VADER - ALIVE!!!!!!!!
-
i agree Michi; now show us some of yours great sw minis you have ;D
-
Ooh, that does look really quite good. It did cross my mind that these anthology films may just be Disney trying to claw back some cash from the purchase of the franchise, but this looks like a genuine effort to expand the 'new' Canon into some of the gaps between movies.
-

Correct, Bothan spies was Death Star II/RotJ.

Please please please star the voice of James Earl Jones

Did anyone else catch the black and silver X-wing that's crashed in the background as Donnie Yen goes all Ninja on the stormtroopers? I know what I'm painting this weekend!
-
I think it looks brilliant, a slightly 'harder' side to Star Wars.
I just feel bad that the protagonist will have to go through he heartache of finding fake plans in the end, because as we all know it's Kyle Katarn who found the real ones lol
-
I like what I have seen so far.
Around nine and a half million views on YouTube so far.
This film should do okay at the box office...
-
When I told my wife about the trailer her reply was "Oh God. It never ends."
Then I showed her the trailer, and she liked it.
-
I did like the massive radar dish behind the At Ats at the end, plenty of modeling potential right there :D
cheers

Now I had to go and watch it again. I'd missed it the first six or seven times...
-
i didn't miss it, but i'll review it again anyway LOL lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

One thing that is a bit worrying to me about that trailer is, uh... where are the aliens?
Is this not Star Wars? I mean this isn't a Star Trek TV episode where they might blame lack of aliens on a low budget. Having no aliens but lots of humans is supposed to be an Imperial trait, not a Rebellion one.
-
agree with you about the anti-alien Imperial politics, but also on TFA did'nt apear any of the typical alien races: rodians, weekays, trandoshan.... i wonder if Lucas denied Disney part of his legacy?
-
Please please please star the voice of James Earl Jones
Well considering Jones voices Vader in Rebel's (the kids cartoon) it shouldn't be to hard for him to get back into character.
-

Maybe a legacy of Jar Jar... lol
I do remember reading somewhere a long time ago that the majority of that galaxy's population were human and humans were the first to rebel. Of course aliens were welcome but not that many were as rebellious ???

Unless he goes the way of Admiral Akbar :'( Peter Mayhew is looking like he's not going to be in the next in the trilogy as well :'(

It's as good an explanation as any.
Other than Chewie, there weren't any aliens at Yavin or Hoth, either. Which in real life is totally a budget thing, I know, but it wasn't until the time of ROTJ that we actually saw aliens in the Rebellion.

To be quite honest, I've found the Rebels cartoon to be an infinitely superior take on the Star Wars universe than TFA.
The writing and characters are better, it's in an under-written era so there's room for the writers to play while still having plenty of guidance and reference material, the fan-service-y callbacks to existing characters and places are better-done, and while the humour in TFA wasn't too terrible, the humour in Rebels has really started to flow naturally and is frankly much funnier. There's no feeling that the humour is forced, or included because of some hanging obligation to "not be like the prequels" the way it did at times in TFA.
The show started off a little confused about how much it was going to be a kid's show - its predecessor The Clone Wars (the CGI one, not the excellent series of shorts by Genndy Tartakovsky), which I haven't watched, was nominally a show for young teens - and the first season occasionally featured awkward moments or episodes where characters were very deliberately non-violent or where events were bowdlerized in some way, but there were still many flashes of genuine Star Wars feel and a lot of great moments. But the writers behind the clunkier moments seem to have been relegated to other duties or have come around to the majority view and the second season has been really impressive, consistently exuding a real Star Wars look and feel. The second half of the second season is the first time I've really wanted to eagerly re-watch anything "Star Wars" again after seeing it once, other than the OT of course.
If you're worried about it being something juvenile, and thereby sappy or undramatic, a Star Wars with the hard edges filed off, you needn't fear. As I said, the writers have settled on it being a proper show and it's at least on par with ANH now in terms of writing, though perhaps not quite ESB. There's certainly little remnant of it being something for small children - Imperials are gunned down, blown to bits, or even cast into the vacuum of space as much as they ever were in any movie (the cast's equivalent of R2-D2 is a certifiable homicidal lunatic for God's sakes).
Both wifey and I have really enjoyed ourselves watching it, laughing and even high-fiving over some of the scenes, they are that well done and feel that much like Star Wars.

Don't know this well enough in the SW universe. Where is it stated who recovers them for the Rebels?
Grimm
-
That's a lot of cut-glass received pronunciation... The onward march of the posh actor has now entered the Star Wars universe...
The movie itself looks great though.
So basically, they're going to release a new Star Wars movie every year, but some of them are side stories rather than following the main plot and characters?

Yeah! Bring it on :D

I second your opinion on REBELS being a very well made show. Although I donīt compare it to TFA - itīs too different and also set up 40 years apart from each other. I watched REBELS several times now and will do again - I really love it! Even if itīs made for smaller children itīs still a joy for any adult SW nut to watch it. I am so keen on it that I even bought the Phantom/Ghost pack for X-Wing and really enjoy playing it with a lot of cinematic moments from that show in my head.

Wait...what! Are you saying you have not watched the clone wars TV show? That was amazing especially the last three years Fram you have to watch it.
-
Looks awesome.
-
I'm excited about the series.

Seconding this recommendation - the CGI Clone Wars series is excellent from series 2 onwards.
-
Well, I know Lucas wrote a lot of The Clone Wars (which is why, of all the previous EU material, it's still considered canon). Is Anakin a real character in it you can actually watch, or is he annoying or as poorly-written as he was in the prequels, something to be tolerated in an otherwise-good show?
-
It will be very interesting to see if any of the Star Wars Rebels cast make it into or are referred to in any way by Rogue One. I can't imagine there'll be no reference at all.
Also, I do hope that one of the Rebels involved in stealing the plans is a former Imperial named Kyle. Come on Disney, do this one for me.
-

If there is one of either side, Iīd pick Agent Kallus and Hera Syndulla.

He's a much more rounded character with believable motivations. He makes decisions consistent with his character. He's not whiny at all.
There are several other very well written characters in the series, Obi Wan really comes to life, Anakin also gets a great padawan, Ashoka Tano, who has grown to be one of my SW favorite characters. Asaajj Ventress is a super cool villain. Clones troopers are portrayed in a manner that breathes life into their endless ranks, there are several brilliant story arcs that involve them, and they have a couple of 'stars' of their own, recurring, strong characters. It's all way better than the prequels.
Of course, there are a few duff plot strands, characters, and poor (or WTF?) episodes - but on the whole it's a rewarding experience.
If you do watch it, I would recommend watching it in this order:
http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars-chronological-episodeorder
Rather than the broadcast order - early stories make a lot more sense.
Also (keeping more on topic) - This trailer has made me excited to see this film, looks like it could be a cracker!

I've just this minute flicked through my NowTV offerings, wishing not for the first time that I'd gone with Netflix or Amazon Prime instead, when I noticed the Star Wars section has gone from a handful of movies to include six seasons of CGI Clone Wars and two seasons of Rebels.
I'm feeling a little giddy.
(Was there a trailer or something...?)

Wait!?! What!?!? Damn! I've been watching this with my kids...2 seasons in...and I've always thought the sequencing was weird!!! Why would they release them out of order!?!?
I'll have to start all over again! ;D

Rogue One - a new trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frdj1zb9sMY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frdj1zb9sMY)
I prefer the incessantly howling alarm of the earlier trailer, but this shows new characters and new ships - including an Imperial shuttle with 4 folding wings :D
-
Really enjoyed the trailer, its looking great. ;D
I'm enjoying the warm summers day today wishing it was December already lol
-
Yep. Happy to see that one. Looks to be a good movie.
-
Interesting addition to see lots of Asian actors joining the cast... Perhaps a nod to a huge market for the franchise... Looks bloody marvellous. Can't wait.
-
Tried to stay up to watch it lat night but failed lol
It's gonna be great :D
including an Imperial shuttle with 4 folding wings :D
That's the only bit I didn't like, didn't 'feel' Imperial to me.
An earlier, more recognisable version of a Lambda class would've been more in keeping I think.
cheers
James
-
Yeah, like that. :D
Is that a protectorate fighter in the trailer?
-
WOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO!
-
WOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO!
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! THAT`S IT!!!!!!!
-
That gets my SW blood flowing (even more). Looking great again! 8)
...An earlier, more recognisable version of a Lambda class would've been more in keeping I think...
This is just a couple of years before a New Hope, and RotJ is very short on its heels too.
The shuttle Tyderium is an old workhorse by that time, so it stands to reason (especially in the light of ships being retained for as long as possible in the SW universe) that during Rogue One, Lambda shuttles are already in widespread use.
So these are just of a different type, probably with different role?
And of course Fantasy Flight Games and Hasbro need their influx of new models for their lines too of course... lol
-
nah not for me, 4 disappointments in a row means I am in no rush to find out if this is number five or not.
The fact they seem to be showing metric crap tons of the action scenes I see as a bad sign. Remember all those 80's post apoc movies where the trailer and the cover art was a bazillion times better than the contents on the VCR. That is the vibe I get from that.
Even though I mainly disagree with your points I actually also had the 'I hope they're not showing all the good stuff'-thought during this trailer.
I do think it looks much more promising than The Force Awkwards though.
-
I am not convinced by the lead female character... I am hoping that she will be less wooden in the film itself.
The blind fighter with the staff and 'the force decides' on his side is an absolute gem :)
-

Totally agree with that, great character.
A Star Wars version of Zatoichi :)
Though I had hopes he would be a ex-Imperial Guard ;)
Love the new trailer, by the way :-*

I am ready to take her home and show her my button collection!

And then show her the true power of the Dark Side ;) :D

Was burned so bad by Ep 7 that I'm certainly not going to take anything on faith from a trailer. We'll see if it's any good when it comes out - though I admit I'm far more hopeful about this than I am Ep 8.
One thing's for sure though - good film or bad film, I suspect a looooooot of the characters in that trailer are gonna die!
-
I had such low expectations for 7 that when seeing it I really enjoyed it. However now I have high expectations for this...
-
Yeah, like that. :D
Is that a protectorate fighter in the trailer?
Nah, New ship combination transport and/or gunship with variable geometry wings. "U-wing" (I think it's the Incom UB-80 technically). The wings move from both forward to swept back (looks like around a 130* sweep from forward to rear angle).
-
I am not convinced by the lead female character... I am hoping that she will be less wooden in the film itself.
Wooden actors in Star Wars films are a tradition!
-
I can attest to The Clone Wars getting very good as it goes on. I think the airing wasn't intentionally out of order, but rather that as the showrunners got more used to what they were doing, they were able to go back and have side stories that took place before, or show character backgrounds interspersed, etc.
Most importantly I think the show does a good job of showing us the authoritarian streak Anakin's developing alongside his increasing belief in unilateral heroics over negotiating and discussion, so his hamfisted fall in Ep III makes a bit more sense. But the side characters are given a lot of fleshing out, and we finally get an explanation about whether the Clones had autonomy or not in regards to O-66, which is huge. You also get a real sense of why some people really did have legitimate grievances with the Republic such that they joined the CIS, and also how the CIS' leadership exploited those grievances for their own ends.
The relation of some of the ex-CIS sorts to the Alliance gets a bit of a look in between TCW and Rebels (and honestly, the comics have been pretty fantastic too). Notably, in the trailer the character played by Forest Whitaker was in TCW - he led the resistance to a CIS takeover of Onderon - only for the Empire to rise, and so presumably some of those Onderonians went back into opposition.
-
Not sure if these have been posted before, but they made me chuckle :D
