Having waited and waited for the Build something contest of 2016 to start I realised that I could not wait any longer...especially if the grand opening just before BLAM is going to take place....
yes I am talking about the long awaited, much talked about and now a reality...the Shed Extension....
As of today the project started....more here

until next time

My shed is my castle^^ There no replacement for a shed even with a bigger shed. Room for a mans Hobby should be protected by the constitution of a country.
-
Blimey Giles... That's going to be even longer than an already long thing!
Good luck with the build. Don't forget to use lots of poly cement.
Now, if only you could work out how to make it just a little bit wider.... ;)
-
I now have a longish thin garden that would accommodate something like this (just)....only myself to persuade post divorce as well :D

Can stretch the photo but not real life...

Your shed is bigger than some people's houses!
Out of curiosity what depth are you pouring your slab to?
-
Great start to a 1:1 scale build :)
Pretty sure your shed currently has more square footage than my first flat :)
-
Looking good so far
Will it be finished for a visit at BLAM time?

The concrete will be c50 cm deep at the edges (I cut trenches) and around 20-25 cm deep around the hardcore

That's the plan... :D
-
More news on the Shed extension front - concrete gets poured this coming Friday !!
-
When are you adding indoor plumbing? :D
-
His best bet is to disguise it as a place where work gets done lol
-
Concrete base got poured on Friday...
Off to order some timber...

Construction starts in two weeks time

Looking good Giles 8)
-
Dear God, you're building it in 1:1 scale! :o
-
Do you need more space, because you want to expand your ECW-collection?

Do you need more space, because you want to expand your ECW-collection?
yes
-
Have you considered knocking through into next doors chalet?
-
Have you considered knocking through into next doors chalet?
Or possibly just extending it all the way to the house. That way you would not have to walk through mud when it is wet. I am sure that the extra space would be useful and your wife could just call through while you are working.
Snitchy sends.

Great start to a 1:1 scale build :)
And what rules are you using with that?

But there is still the question, what is in the cement of the floor? The last opponent who beat giles? Some golden coins? The neighbours cat??? The lost member of the manic street preachers??? ;)
-
The lost member of the manic street preachers??? ;)
Best to leave them lost! lol

Well, okay then, but if I put a fair sized marble at one end will it roll all the way to the other end!? lol
Very nice - wish I had such a place. I do, at least, finally have a dedicated table, 4' x 12' which can expand to 16' length. Now I just need to clear it off and play on it!
Looking forward to your completion so you can get on to those other highly enjoyed posts about your actual miniatures.
-
very nice progress indeed
-
More progress yesterday - roof tresses complete and started on the floor frame

-
So jealous of this and the space you have. Looking forward to BLAM and the guided tour of the new shed
-
This really is most impressive.
I have never had any skill in 1:1 builds myself. So to me that sort of thing is always extra impressive.

still loads to go though
-
Get out of the way, because Eric's fully erect!
(SOMEONE has to say it...)
-
This reply is simply to let everyone get past the immediately prior reply. As he said, someone had to say it. Meaning what I said, not what he said. :?
-
Handsome wargaming accommodation, Giles :)
Looking forward to my first game in the expanded Shed.
-
It looks like the new shed will allow for multiple gaming tables once it is all connected. A great space for gaming.
-
This evening I finally got the felt onto the roof (without falling off :D) & built the final piece of wall to cover the return where the two sheds meet.
Up next construct the door and finish off the weatherproofing.
If funds akkow I'll start the electrics this weekend. That will be followed by the insulation and only then will I cut through.
This extension is going to be subdivided into a small storage area for my wifes business but the bulk (80%) will be for storage and a workshop.
-
A Workshop!!! You are so lucky!!! I have to do all the dirty work in the Garden :'(
-
Managed to weatherproof the new building and hang the door over the weekend
all the progress here

Will start on the inside soon
-
Looks like the outside is about done.
Well done it is.
But how about three color camo on all the buildings.
Will blend in with the rest of the plants. ;)
-
Go on, paint it camo - you know you want to... ;)
-
Go on, paint it camo - you know you want to... ;)
Yes but she who must be obeyed doesn't
>:(
-
What about Dazzle camo? :D
-
Then in the winter you would need to paint it white. Might be best to go with her suggestion though.
-
Curious question - with the elevation above the foundation do you have a critter highway underneath the Shed? Sure would around here, some years ago had a federal trapper stop by and he referred to our neighborhood as ground zero for varmints - skunks, raccoons, possums, etc. Of course, for your size, I'm thinking more along the line of rats and such but maybe polecats, too?
-
Yes there is a gap underneath the shed ---
I had mice in the old one but locking my cat in there for a couple of nights soon sorted out that problem :D
As long as there is no food down there the rats should stay away
Wasps are an issue - I have had two nests in the roof over the past 10 years and we do get foxes knocking around
But alas no polecats in Surrey, England...
-
Started insulating the shed this weekend...

-
I applaud your productivity! 8)
-
Sometimes i really hate it living in a small flat in Munich;)
Fantastic hobby place!!!
-
Looks nice and bright
Great work Giles.
I am so jealous
-
Amazingly productive and very nice space.
The Cut through...
What would be really good is cutting through into your neighbor's shed! ;D
-
I still think a tasteful dazzle camo scheme, or perhaps even a series of panels inspired by the Brassey's camo book would look great on the exterior :D :D :D :D
Only teasing cos I'm green with envy lol
-
great progress :-* :-*
-
Load more progress over the weekend....windows, lighting, shelving and a shed within a shed
