Title: 28mm 1970s Royal Naval Landing Party
Post by: bobblezbob on April 15, 2016, 08:32:57 AM
I came across these excellent ebob sculpts from TARV Models http://www.tarvmodels.co.uk/?product_cat=naval-landing-party and I've just got to have them but am struggling with my Googlefu to find reference images to help paint them.
Does anyone have any links to sites that they could suggest please ?
Regards

Those minis are great! I have no use for them in any of my games, but I want them anyway.

Uniform details have changed slightly, but the colours have not. '4 Dress Action Working Dress' (Part 6) is what you are looking for.

Oddly some of the figures have 'naval caps' which are never worn with working dress, berets are worn instead. If I remember correctly helmets and combat webbing are olive drab, the same as the Army and Royal Marines.

Thanks for that Arlequin, that's a lot of information that I'll be sifting through  :), just to save me trawling through it all do yo know if the gaiters/puuttees would be olive drab as well?
Thanks

I can't give you a definitive answer, but as they were only issued as needed, I would imagine that the '37 style ones were left khaki, as that would suit all environments and dress, as was the case with the webbing itself (it could also be issued to be whitened for 'No. 1 Rig' if needed too).

The later wool puttee/ankle wraps were a 'light navy blue' though; lighter than the trousers, darker than the shirt.  ::)

That being said I wouldn't commit to saying they were never khaki... and all of a unit would turned out the same, the Navy are funny like that.

You only need to look at the first page of Part 6 for the shirt/trouser colours, unless you really want to read through it all and be informed on such things as how the cap ribbon is tied and trimmed and how cabin stewards should be turned out etc.

 ;)

This might help, barring the white belt, it is pretty accurate, not much changed between 1961 and 1980-something, except the rifles...

Photos I've seen  seem to suggest that the anklets were often as not , the khaki base, similar or indeed the same as the army version. Anklets would be blancoed white for parade wear.

In Australia, the navy whitened their anklets with blanco whilst the army blackened theirs with boot polish but it was the same web anklet.

The shirts btw faded to a fairly light grey and even the much darker pants seem to have changed to a  bluish grey after exposure to salt and sun a  few turns in the washing machine.

This is neat I didn't even know they existed, what other figure lines do they fit in with?
