Hello fellow LAFers.
After nearly a year lurking on this forum and enjoying the beauties shared in here, it was time that I contributed to the community. I could have waited until having better photos to show you, but I decided that the sooner, the better. Plus, having to keep this thread going will serve as a motivation.
For the moment, I don't have any specific ruleset in mind for the miniatures shown in here. That will come up eventually.
I will start with my most recent miniatures: some goblins from Crooked Claw's latest crowdfunding. Very characterful sculpts and a joy to paint, though I wouldn't complain if they wore a bit less armour. These have also confirmed how much I despise painting studded leather, but that's a minor inconvenience.

I have four more goblins left, and a night goblin wizard from Citadel that will join the ranks.

The Little Green Guys are BEAUTIFULLY painted. Your flesh tones & color choice are WONDERFUL. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Nice, work, DeafNala put it better than I would, really nice greenskins.
Thanks for sharing, hope to see much more.
-
Absolutely excellent paintwork.
-
Thanks for the kind comments guys. These figures are something like my exhaust valve when I'm tired of painting my Infinity ones.
Here's one that I forgot to add to the initial post, a cultist. Originally a Gripping Beast monk, the face didn't ressemble anything like a human face, so I decided to experiment. Cut the face off and sculpt a mask in its place.
The paintjob was inspired on the Mythic Dawn of the game "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion"

Some may recognize this figure as I previosly showed it on the Pulp board.

I really like that wizardy guy and the little details on his shoulders :-)

Creepy mask! :)

This week I bring you two more goblins to join ranks, equipped with fearsome two-handed weapons (some even are unsure that these goblins can even wield them).
Once again, the photos might not be great, but trust me that these are the best that I have managed to get in my current conditions. I need more lights :`

Mang, these are amazing. Such neat miniatures with such neat paintjobs.
Not sure I've gotten used to clear bases yet, but in this case it does look pretty nifty.

Coming from you, these words are truly encouraging. Your thread is one of my favorites in all LAF.
I've finally managed to take better photos, thanks to a digital camera that was lying around the house, another lamp with a LED bulb and a sheet of grey cardboard I bought the other day.

As a captive of the goblins, Snorri now had plenty of time to think about his poor life choices...

Very tasty! And I'm not just referring to the dwarf… :D

Enter the shieldgoblin ! 6 out of 8 miniatures from the crowdfunding painted !

Credits to Lt. Hazel, whose tutorial for battle damages on shields (on the "How to.." section) I tried to emulate. For the first time it's ok, but the next will come out better.

I've finally painted the remaining goblins from Crooked Claw's latest crowdfunding:
(http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y303/javiermonts23/Miniaturas%20Fantasia/lanza%20y%20ladron_zps3pb6qjh4.jpg) (http://s1024.photobucket.com/user/javiermonts23/media/Miniaturas%20Fantasia/lanza%20y%20ladron_zps3pb6qjh4.jpg.html)

I'm afraid I've rushed a bit painting these two. Painting armor and metals is not my favorite thing.
Here they are in all their rubbly glory:

What a nice collection :D Now you just need an adventurer or two for a neat little mini-scenario :D
I need to find the room in my budget to get these miniatures. They're so cheap and so good!
-
They certainly look amazing! That skin tone is just perfect :D
Hope to see much more very soon!
-
Great work.
-
You've create a WONDERFUL Band of BEAUTIFULLY painted Little Rogues. You're brushwork & eye fore color are OUTSTANDING; you bring out out the ample personality in the miniatures. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Today I present you a shaman, who joins the already known band of goblins. It's a Citadel night goblin shaman from the 90's
that I purchased on eBay a couple of years ago just for nostalgia. It's one of the first miniatures that I wanted to have when I
discovered the hobby.

That's all the goblins I had, for the next updates I will post something different. Demons, maybe. My lead (and plastic) is not as bigger as yours, most of the things I have are remnants of failed armies for WHFB, which I'm trying to sell, and Confrontation minis, which might be my side project.
-
That puppet on the stick is sooo cute! :-*
BTW, nice paint job! :D
-
Did I say that I don't fancy painting metals? Well, here comes a dude practically covered in chainmail and icons with an enormous axe.

The miniature is a Khornegor from GW, that I purchased with the idea of using it as some demonical servant or creature for an equally demonical sorcerer. There is another Khornegor still to paint, which I started to paint along the finished one here, until it slipped off my hand and landed in the glass full of dirty water :'(

Hello once again !
My fantasy project is on standby now, mainly because I've run out of suitable miniatures. So, while I'm gathering funds and working on my thesis I've decided to lower down my lead mountain of forgotten figures. I have some Alchemists of Dirz from the Confrontation range that I purchased about two years ago. I discovered the range when they came out (twelve years ago or so, iirc) but, being a kid with limited funds and no clue about where to purchase them, I forgot about the idea.
Here it is, my first Confrontation miniature painted: A humble clone of Dirz! It is also my first approach to NMM, which is obviously nowhere near to perfect, but I like it for a tabletop level.

Now I'm feeling the itch to buy more Rackham figures. Damn...
-
Recently, a member from another forum commissioned me to paint some monsters for his updated Heroquest. The first chosen figures were these armoured skeletons, from Otherworld Miniatures. Really nice sculpts I have to say, it's the first time I've got something from Otherworld in my hands.

Updates on the Heroquest commission. Today: not-zombies.
The guy who commissioned me for the job isn't much a fan of the "zombie" concept. He even owns an Oldhammer army with hundreds of figures, and not a single zombie in it. But the game requires zombies, so he used some "counts as" in the form of Mordheim Dregs.

I painted them as if they were deserters from an army, or some peasants, who have succumbed to their darkest instincts (cannibalism), becoming ghoul-ish.
In addition, a family pic of the undead family

I really like those skeletons - especially the one with the raised axe.
-
Ooohh, the non-zombies look goood!
-
Thanks for the kind comments, people :)
Today, I'm bringing you more Heroquest goodness (28 out of 38 figures remaining, this is going to last for a while) in the form of a couple of gargoyles, with evil intentions and worse-looking faces.
(http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y303/javiermonts23/Miniaturas%20Fantasia/gargolas1_zps0ygrthxs.jpg) (http://s1024.photobucket.com/user/javiermonts23/media/Miniaturas%20Fantasia/gargolas1_zps0ygrthxs.jpg.html)

Next in the queue: greenskins.
-
Gorgeous work. Loving this project.
-
Really nice. Thanks for sharing.
I am waiting on my goblins from the latest Crocked Claw kickstarter. Could you please tell me how you painted the skin on your goblins? The look great.
-
Hello to you all once more!
Today I bring three orcs for the current Heroquest project. These are Heartbreaker Miniatures, and the guy who gave these gave eight miniatures but only two poses, so to make the painting less monotonous I decided to paint two groups of three orcs and one of two, using the same colours on every group.
Red group is the first one to come to life. Still deciding on the rest. I will change the skin tone too.

Apologies for the poor pictures, this is the best I can get from a 6+ year smartphone.
-
I love the shield design !
-
One little step further in the Heroquest commission (I'm fortunate enough to not be pressured with dates, as Real Life has been getting in the way these last two months)

Although far from perfect, I'm happy with how my freehand skills are progressing.
-
Great paintjobs - and a great set of shields!
-
like them a lot :-*
-
Some really excellent and inspiring work here - thanks for sharing.

The Heroquest commission keeps progressing as slow as the continents drift away from each other. Today I present a bunch of goblins from the OOP Heartbreaker
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170528/7a94bf5a43c56b745e5c917edd03f30e.jpg)
Left to paint there are 4 Chaos Warriors, a Chaos Sorcerer, 6 Fimirs and the Orc Boss.
-
Great work!
-
:-* :-*
-
The goblins look great. I especially like their skin tone but metals are tasty, too.
-
I haven't been idle this summer, and the end of the commission gets closer day by day. Today I bring you some reptilian murderous rapist creatures from the swamps, also known as Fimirs:

Big update !!
The Heroquest minions commission is finished at last. The patron would've liked to throw the heroes into the commission as well, but this week I'm heading over Sweden to stay there for a year due to my studies, so I won't be able to paint anything for a time.
I've been a "victim" of the Photobucket thingie too, so I decided to take better photographs of everything painted and put them on Flickr, and reupload the images here. Without further delay, here's everything. Hope you enjoy.

"That is not dead which can eternal lie"
I decided to revive this thread through necromantic means after nearly four years in order to post my other projects not related to Confrontation.
First of all, some plastic scenery from GW. Say what you'd like about the Evil Empire, but these scenery kits they put out from time to time are quite nice, more so if you manage to get them at a discount.

An elf archer from MOM Miniatures. This miniature sat half-painted for nearly five years, mainly because the sculpt is quite crude on some areas. Nevertheless, it's done and I'm moving on.

3d printed FDM rats. I tested 3d-printing miniatures on my Ender 3 using a 0.3 nozzle and the Tomb of Printed Horrors profile for Cura, and I got some decent results. I may try some more 3d printed figures now that I'm a bit broke while looking for a job.

The Chainrasps from the Mortal Realms Issue #1. This were painted applying yellow ink on a coat of Carmine Ink (Winsor&Newton), which seems that can reactivate no matter how much time you let it cure. There are several spots where the WN Ink reappeared, but luckily it adds to the "spectral effect".

Nothing wrong with that...good threads mature like a fine wine :D
Really like the choice of colours for the chainrasps, but the rust on that sword is just :-* :-* :-*
-
Very nice indeed. I'm with you on the GW's terrain kits, many of them are really quite nice and not all that badly priced when compared to similarly sized resin scenery, to say nothing of being comparatively lightweight and easier to transport. 3D printing is rapidly eclipsing both resin and injection molding for terrain pieces, but it's not quite there yet.
-
Lovely paint jobs, seconded on that rust effect.

Ender 3 miniatures club represent! I originally bought my Ender 3 with the intention of just doing terrain but was pretty surprised at how well it can do miniatures, very well in fact with a smaller nozzle and some good PLA. The main issue compared to resin ofc is supports which can be terrible on FDM and are always gonna leave rough areas.

The lovely summer finally came to my side of the Mediterranean, which implies steaming hot temperatures and the sun basically trying to kill everything it touches. Painting under these conditions is quite agonizing, but I wanted to paint nonetheless, so I settled for something that wasn't too demanding. So, the most perfect time to paint some scenery.
Basecoats, oil washes, drybrush and detail picking and I have some ruins to dress up the battlefield a bit. The Azyrite Ruins set from GW is such great value, what a bummer they did discontinue it.

Other activity to do when the heat is strong: sculpting. I had a Warhammer stone troll who was missing its head, and I've been wanting to improve my sculpting skills (which amount to practically zero).

Pretty happy with this attempt, if I say so myself.
-
Great work in this thread, both in the painting and sculpting. I particularly like the Goblins and Skeletons.
-
That is an awesome bit of sculpting - nicely done!
-
Not bad sculpting!
-
Many thanks to all. This is my first attempt at sculpting a full bit. Before that, I had just filled gaps and perhaps sculpted a bit of fur.

A little update. Yesterday I was priming some figures and I had some leftover primer on the airbrush, which went to the sculpted head. Then, I attached it to the body, and here it is the troll finally assembled.
-
Looks good! A nice, coherent whole.
-
I was painting some Infinity figures and got completely tired of them (thanks again to the summer heat). Instead of that, I took a 3d-print I had of one Heroquest Mage, and resolved to paint it kind of fast.
Thanks to the oils, this one has taken me a couple of sessions, so in total, less than 2h 30'.

Once I started to delve into my Pile of Printed Potentials there was no stop. Today I bring you a mysterious ranger, apt for Frostgrave, Rangers of Shadow Deep and a plethora of similar games.

Over a zenithal priming, I airbrushed several inks to paint the cloak. Then, carmin red oil + black for the shadows, and the rest was done in acrylics. Done in a couple of sessions as well.

Another day, another miniature. Today I bring a Hireling with torch, from Brite Minis on Thingiverse.
I quite like the looks of this dude, a lowly adventurer not seemingly pleased with the career he has taken.

Last September I was gifted a resin printer (a Creality LD002H, more specifically) with which I thought of printing miniatures, as I had previosly done with my Ender 3.
And then an idea crossed my mind: what about trying to downscale archives to print my own 15mm's? I really like the scale, but the crude detail of many comercially available miniatures coupled with the difficulty to get hold of many of them in Spain (thanks to some events in The Very Normal Island Nation) had discouraged me of going the tiny route.
Well, I digress.
Here are some walking corpses, or zombies, although I don't like that term too much because I feel it is too much tied to its Haitian roots.

Old pot of Mithril Silver for scale purposes.
STLs are from Monstrous Encounters, downscaled ofc.
-
Those are amazing
-
Loving your zombies! :-*
-
Happy new year, fellow forum dwellers and lurkers!
Some downscaled skeletons from Brite Minis, posted for free on Thingiverse. Although, I must say the full set of skeletons you can get on his Patreon library of archives is very tempting, but I do already have too many bony boys printed thanks to Arbiter Minis (those will come later).

They might be long dead, yes, but they never lose the smile on their faces.

It only took me falling ill with Covid-19 to paint my first miniature of the year, a wizard for Frostgrave. By her looks she is suitable as a Thaumaturge, Elementalist or something along that line. Clearly not a Necromancer or Witch.

3d printed figure, from Vae Victis.
-
Ah, ive got my eye on some Vae Victis prints too (along with a ton of others woops ::) )
Really nice to see these with paintjobs "in the resin" so to speak. The 15mm's look excellent too - Every tempting me to get out my own 15s again
-
After suffering from “the plague” I started a new position, so my hobby/painting time got drastically slashed.
This week I decided to come back to my “chill space”, painting 15s. Getting things done in less time improves the mood a bit, which is definitely needed right now.
The lucky winner this time has been a lone guard with halberd from Brite Minis. I love his old-school sculpts, something that’s not very usual among other 3d-designers, which use the medium for very over-the-top works.

Wow, phenomenal work in this thread, I think I missed it before. Your work on the Age of Sigmar terrain is truly special - makes me want to pick it up myself. Great work all around, I'll be following with interest!
-
Resin printing has absolutely made fall in love again with the 15mm scale. The variety and quality of the pieces one can get with a standard printer is astonishing. And that goes without mentioning the saving in shipping costs. Plus, a bottle of resin goes a long way when printing this tiny.
Today I bring some ghouls from Red Nebular Games patreon. These have been made in lovecraftian fashion, not the usual devolved human we have seen from GW/Mantic.

These will be great for Frostgrave, or even some Myths of Cthulhu-related games.
-
Red Nebular makes some great stuff. Those ghouls are sublime.
-
Slowly getting to pick up brushes again. New work has been hectic and hobby time has been slashed, save for the occasional time to slice some stls for printing.
Today I bring you a lycanthrope from Arbiter Miniatures. This figure has been an experiment with oils, in which I've used acrylics only for basecoating and final details. It came a bit purple-ish in the end, but it is suitable for a bloodthirsty shapeshifter creature, don't you think?

Some lovely painting in this thread, a nice selection of minis too.
Keep them coming.

"Old Ben? What about him? A decent fella, if I say so. Knows how to wield a weapon and doesn't make a fuss, unlike the rest of these drunkards and criminals. A bit on the quiet side, though.
Some say he once was in a knight order. Yeah, as if anybody like that would drop everything to work in this desolate freezing nowhere...

Excellent work. Cool (pun) background. Would have been fun if he was hiding in a dessert region.

Thank you both so much!
Technically speaking, a frozen landscape can be a desert :D (Antarctica qualifies as such due to the low level of precipitations). But yeah, I get what you mean. But the figure demanded such paintjob.

Desert Shaman from Vae Victis Miniatures. Will work as a sorcerer/witch type of mage (definitely not one of the good kind). I added the candle on the skull to make her more like the Occultist from Darkest Dungeon. I also freehanded the pattern on the edge of her tunic.
-
Beautiful work on that figure! There is a lot going on there and I like the palette you used.
-
Fantastic! You've packed a lot of character and expression into what little face is exposed!
-
a cool model and scene
-
Thank you all so much!
This model in particular was available in two versions, one without the veil and the other veiled (the version I’ve painted). This further adds to the air of mistery and otherworldliness.
For the scene I painted a couple of thick cardboard slabs (those that come with IKEA furnitures) with cheap acrylics, and put on some of the scenery I have. Quite effective, though I’m still musing about substituting the backdrop with a printed image that I’ll place further from the camera.
-
Wow. You're blowing it out of the park recently - that's another stunning paintjob!
-
Happy new year fellow forum lurkers!
I'm quite happy because I've managed to have my first painted miniature of the year painted during January. It is sort of a mental milestone that I've reached, and this may lead to a more steady workflow this year. We'll see. At the moment I'm currently painting some scenery, which I sort of dreaded for a long time ("but I could be painting figures in that time, duh").
Bandit from Vae Victis Miniatures, supportless design printed in 15mm scale. After some considerations, I think I want to further expand my collection in this direction. It's a very satisfactory scale to work in.

Three simple and basic skellies to roam my Frostgrave table. I am currently spray painting a big batch of scenery as well. Behind them you can see part of a ruined tower that I did as test piece.

Wow, that’s beautiful work! It’s hard to believe those are 15mm. Are they more of the 3D prints? I don’t recognize the models.
-
Amazing skeletons :-*
-
Yup, 3d prints all of them, from Arbiter Miniatures in this case.
I did some orders back in the day to Alternative Armies, but thanks to a certain political thing that happened, ordering from British manufacturers has become unfeasible. And the other option was American ones (Khurasan or Splintered Light, which in turn are even more expensive.
So, for now, it’s going to be 3d printing for me.
-
These are just brilliant!!! :o :o
Do you print them yourself or send the files to a printshop?
It’s really a pity that Brexit and the rise of postage has made it quite a feat to order all the noce little models from Khurasan, Splintered Lights and the UK.
-
Printed myself at home. I was gifted on 2021 with a LD-002H, which was even cheaper than the Ender 3 I had purchased a year earlier. It is 2K quality, but now there are plenty of 4k and even 8k options available. I’ve seen Artisan Guild’s prints downscaled to 15mm in 8k quality that you would’ve think at first they were 32mm scale.
-
Just amazing…maybe I should not resist the urge any longer? :?
-
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
But this one has been particularly late. Or really early, considering how do you see it.
My first test using the Vallejo Xpress on 15mm miniatures. Really pleased with the results, will try with more.

-
Stunning brushwork in 15mm. Just wow. :o
-
Thank you much people.
Yes, it is 15mm (well, perhaps not exactly? The base is a 20mm round). I am pretty content with the thing one can get with a basic resin printer at home.
-
Cool wizard!
-
As others have said: magnificent models! The guy with the spear, is that a 3d print shortened to 15mm?
