Since Annie's probably slumped over a bar somewhere in London after Salute, I thought I'd share some of the new Shieldmaidens she sent me, newly released for Spring 2016.

Very nice. Like them a lot.
-
Those are some scary looking ladies, especially the first one! Nice!
-
Absolutely top job been done on these :-*...great looking figures....and whoever painted them definitely knew which end of a brush to pick up as well
-
Stop tempting me!
-
You've done an excellent job with those!
-
Great looking miniatures!
-
Nice sculpts that your brushwork does proud, Cubs!
How doe these scale with Perry, Fireforge, et al. ?
-
I find them to be a bit taller than GB, Saxon and Foundrys Vikings.

I was going to say they seem about average to me, but I haven't actually put them up against any other models, that's just my impression.

Fantastic shield and Dark Age Burberry check.
-
Dark Age Burberry :D That's just Cubbin showing off his inner chav. Or outer chav :D
available here

I need to replace my bad and rushed ink jobs with Cubbin's lovely ones! I may do that tonight!
I much prefer how Cubbin attached the hand on the one with the sword up (Hervor), I was less imaginative and put it flat, which isn't half as good.
And yes insane good paintjob as always! And nicely timed, got them just as I was packing up for Salute, so they got brought along. Sold out on the day too! There may be a small wait with the restock as the casters are a bit overwhelmed (plus I erm, sold out of most things at Salute, so need a lot of casting!) but you can always put orders in and get to the front of the queue for when they are ready!
Cheers :D

Nice sculpts, made wonderful by Cubs skills with paint.

Beautiful work Cubs, the hair on the first one is just spot on :-*
-
Lovely paint work :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
I love the bases the moss on the stones is a great idea and I may steal that if I can work out how its done?

I'm really pleased you noticed that actually, because I'm trying to improve my results with long hair. I keep staring hard at things like shampoo adverts, to see how the light moves about on people's hair and the places where you get unexpected deep shadows. It's not easy to get it looking natural and I'm still working on it.

Now that's an old trick I nicked from the WaMP site a few years ago. You gather any old bit of garden moss (roots and all) and then leave it to soak in a solution of 1 part glycerine to 8-10 parts water for about an hour or two. This preserves the moss and stops it from rotting. Glycerine isn't anything scary, it's just a sugar solution - the stuff they use as a base for cough syrup and such. You can get a bottle very cheaply at the chemist, or order it in.
Then after the moss has soaked for long enough, you take it out and leave it on a piece of kitchen roll to dry thoroughly (overnight is good). Then just stick it in a tub or a bag and pinch bits off to use on your bases. If there are bits of mud stick stuck to the roots, just make sure you soak it in plenty of woodglue before sticking it to your base.
I have had problems in the past where the moss yellows over time. This doesn't look too bad, just like dried ferns or something, but now I add a couple of drops of green ink to the glycerine solution at the start and this keeps it nice and green.
Of course, having typed that, I'm wondering if you meant the green stipply moss effect on the little stones on the base? If so, it is what it looks like, just a bit of lime green-ish paint stippled gently on.

Beautiful paintwork Cubs, absolutely bring these figures (more) to life.
-
Beautiful work as always and thank you for the moss idea, will be stealing that :D
Gives me a use for the vast amount of moss I have currently in the garden ;D
-
Those are some very nice miniatures. I will have to look into getting a few of them for my Dark Age and fantasy armies.
-

So, big, angry maids with sharp and pointy tools...? Would scare me!
-
Excellent! :o :-*
-
They are all wonderful, but the one with the tartan cloak is particularly good.
-
Are they going to be added to the webstore? I might opt for shieldmaidens for my next Blood Eagle warband.
No hurry, have to paint the first handful of vikings, first, but...

They're here, shieldmaiden fighters

more shieldmaidens being sculpted too...
-
Thanks cubs
Sorry but it was the second question I was asking but the first answer is very useful as well :D :D :D
-
Those would make great Wildling "Spearwives" for a GoT project.
-
Raar!

OK, couldn't find them earlier. They are perfect for Blood Eagle!
Any bow-armed ones in the works?
-
The posed shot against the forest background is excellent - really shows off your work.
-
Yeah John Morris showed me the start of his archers at Salute, looking good!
-
Nice work, nice figures.

...and the plot thickens...
I shall be getting some of these when I have painted the warband I just assembled. I try to restrain myself from having too much going on at the same time lol
But I sense that Blood Eagle will keep me focussed on the Dark Ages for quite a while - and I just ordered OGAM to have a rule set for unit sizes in between Blood Eagle and Dragon Rampant (and SAGA), so I can escalate slowly (I absolutely loathe having to paint a big unit in one go).

You mean teeth and nails? They all got them. That's why we love 'em and happily die approx. 5 years before them :D.
Nice models Annie. They are getting better and better. Expect an order in the forseeable future.
