Thank you. The artwork was done by Boris Samec, the very talented artist behind Mantic's fanzine Ironwatch covers. He's done plenty amazing internal artwork too, some of which can be seen on our Facebook page :)

Nice cover! Reminds me of the Xenozoic Tales comics from the 80s.

Thank you. Xenozoic Tales/Cadillacs & Dinosaurs was huge inspiration when making the game, as was other nineties toy lines such as Jurassic Park and Dino Riders.

Here's a little sneak peak at the character creation. With a little imagination you can use practically any miniature in your collection to represent your Slayer. Maybe you have an ex-soldier, bike gang member or a wild-man who's spent too long in the dinosaur infested zones. RPG fans will also find themselves right at home with the Slayer customisation options available to them too.

So is one player the slayers one player the dinosaur?  Or are the dinosaur AI against competing slayers?

Interesting idea anyway, looks fun!

Hi. Each player controls a Slayer and the dinosaurs are AI. They have a really unique AI which we will preview in the videos we're currently working on. Dinosaurs will attack Slayers they can sense via a "nerdatone" pheromone or by them doing loud things such as firing guns. If they are outside of these ranges they will resort to their animal instincts, so herbivores will seek out food and water while carnivores hunt down herbivores... All the players collect the dinosaurs they want in the game and this creates a dinosaur pool. Half of this starts on the board while the rest slowly wander during the games.

While the Slayers are not attacking one another, it's still a competitive game, as they compete for money and celebrity status (they're being filmed by news crews, so the campaign system see's your Slayer rising the ranks of celebdom). As the Slayers increase in levels they'll be able to take on larger dinosaurs as well as managing publicity stunts in between games.

Thanks for the interest :)

Great concept reminded me of Turok the video game. Will you be releasing miniatures and will you be providing a PDF/printed book? Thanks for sharing.

Turok was another big inspiration. I spent many a day on my friends N64 playing it :) We're not doing an official range, but who know what the future holds. As it is, you're free to use any miniature in your collection, and a lot of fun is had coming up with a background for your Slayer based on the mini. If you think of a Slayer as a cross between Crocodile Dundee and a WWE wrestler, you can really come up with some imaginative concepts.

It also means you can go to a discount shop, I suggest B&M's if you're in the UK, and buy tubs and boxes of dinosaur toys for next to nothing. Many of these even come with terrain like rocks and palm trees.

It's going to be a physical book, although a digital copy is something we're looking into. On top of that, if you keep your eyes out, we'll be adding all new rules and scenarios to our website on a regular basis that can be downloaded for free.

Thank you. One of the most fun things we've seen between ourselves and our playtesters has been everyone scouring the mini markets for the perfect mini for their Slayer or diving into their bits box to make a really unique model.

This weekend we're hoping to get a battle report up so everyone can have a look at what we've been using and get a look at how it plays to go along with the video tutorials we're going to do. We hope those will be useful.

I'd like to pass on my personal thanks to all the LA community for taking an interest in the game and taking the time to playtest it when the alpha rules went out a year ago.

It's a very different beast (or should that be dinosaur?) than it was, but the input and enthusiasm we got was fantastic. I hope you all enjoy it, and hope to see plenty of pics in the future...Keep your eyes peeled for a battle report and "how to" this weekend! :)

To celebrate the release of Dinoproof, we've created a new co-op scenario which will allow Slayers to team up rather than compete against one another.

We've also got a set of tokens and a copy of the Slayer Sheet. These are all free to download from the resources page of our website:

Can you tell us a little more about the game play, campaigns and the character creation?

I'm looking for a system to play games based on Primeval.

Thanks for the interest. Let me tell you a little more about the game. I'll get a battle report done up this weekend but I can give you a good break down:

Slayer Creation

Firstly, pick the mini you want! You can have plenty of fun with this step :)

You have 4 stats: Intelligence (used in a variety of things, but increases your Nerdatone range so dinos cane sense you from further away). Melee (close combat capabilities). Precision (fire arms capabilities as well as balance and dodgy attacks) and finally Chutzpah (your bravery used when being surrounded, pushing through dinos and a few other bits)...You have 16 points to put into these so you can create a tough but dumb Slayer, Brave and smart Slayer, good all rounder or anything else you fancy.

You then get to pick 1 skill from the many available (some can even be picked multiple times as you level up). The skills range from making you a better fighter, better at using support items or allowing you to re-roll certain dice.

Then you get to pick you weapons and equipment.

After that you work out your nerdatone range (based around your Int score) and then your toughness score (based around Prec and the armour you've bought)

Every Slayer starts as Star Factor 0 (this is your celebrity status, but also indicates what dinos you can fight and other things in the campaign play)

After that, pick an awesome name and you're set!

Pre Game

Before a game you get to manage an Event in a campaign. These give you benefits in the following game. You can only manage events you have a star factor of or higher, so when you first make a Slayer, you wont get to manage any.

Roll a D8 to see which of the 8 scenarios you'll be playing (or agree on one. There's also new scenarios being added to our website for free), and see if there's any special rules you need to be aware of before the game. The roll a D8 to see who's first as Player 1, 2, 3 etc etc

Each player then gets Population Points. These are the points you'll get to use to populate each game...So you can populate the game with a choice of dinos that you have the star factor of or higher to hunt, traps to thwart rival Slayers or sentry cannons that can be placed like terrain, and used during the game.

Once you have chosen all your dinos, all the places put the'r dinos together to make the Dino Pool. After terrain and nutrition tokens have been placed, take turns place any of the dinos in the pool until half of the dinos are on the table.

Then place supply crates (equal to each Slayers Int) and traps. and choose which side is North,South,East and West

The table is now set.

The Game

Player one then gets to place their mini on the table. But things are never that simple, and you have to roll to see if you are blown off course by the wind. See how far and in which direction you are, and then place the mini in the new position...Each player does this.

Player 1 starts off. They get to make two actions: move, fight, open crates, reload etc etc. They have to defeat a dino by rolling a D8 + the modifier (so close combat uses Melee, ranged uses Precision), and beat the dinos toughness. If they do this, they do the amount of damage caused by the weapon.

After that, Player 1 controls all the dinos that can sense Player 2 (and Player 2 does the same for Player 3 etc). If there are any dinos that can sense the next player along, they'll move towards them until they can make an attack. They do this by trying beat the Slayers toughness by rolling 2 D8. If they succeed, they'll do the amount of damage that species does. If a Slayer ever loses all of their health, they get airlifted out, and can't continue in the game.

After that, Player 1 can then move a certain number of other dinosaurs on the table. This is the dinos Natural Instinct phase. So herbivores will move to a nutrition source like food or water, and a carnivore will hunt down the closest herbivore.

Finally, Player 1 gets to bring on a certain number of dinos from the remaining pool. they come on at a random table edge.

That's Player 1s full go and then Player 2 gets to make their actions and dino phases.

Slayers can make a single Adrenaline Rush super move during a game. This becomes easier to perform the more kills you've made.

The game continues this way until the scenarios winning conditions have been met or there's only one Slayer left standing.

Campaign

All dinos killed are worth XP and Money. So keep count of what you've bagged during the game. You can use this to buy new gear, improve your stats or gain new skills.

surviving and winning games (or taking part in games with Slayers more experienced than you) will gain you Star Factor. This is your celebrity status as a dino hunter (think Steve Irwin, but with dinosaurs :) ). The higher your Star Factor, the bigger and nastier dinos you can hunt, the wider range of events you can manage between games and depending on your campaign conditions (like first to 15 Star Factor), finally win the entire campaign.

I hope that's of use. Keep your eyes peeled for a battle report as we kick off a new office campaign.

As far as Primeval goes. With a little changing of the fluff, I don't see why you can't use these rules for that, or any other dino-hunting game.

If you want a range of dinos in each game, you're probably looking at around 6-8 dinos per player, especially for the early games when you're Star Factor 0. As the dinosaurs get stronger, they cost more population points and so you have fewer dinos on the table.

As for the price of dino minis, I'd recommend checking out suitable toy dinosaurs. If you're in the UK I'd suggest B&Ms and Pound Stretcher discount shops, as they have a range of dino sets, many of which even come with really nice plastic palm trees, perfect for 28mm gaming terrain.

A few people have messaged us regarding a good source of suitably scaled dinosaurs. Obviously there are many wargame miniatures that produce them, but they tend to be more on the costly size.

If you've seen our battle report for Dinoproof, you can see some of the dinosaur toys we use. http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=90400.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=90400.0)

These dinosaurs are perfect for filling out the games and have the majority of the Star Factor 0 dinos in, so you'll need some of those when you start off. In the UK these are readily available in a large set (you'll get enough for several players) for a few pounds (£2.99) in the discount chain B&M's.

The exact set are available in America from Walmart and other discount shops (as well as the Natural History Museum in New York for a higher price). They're also on ebay regularly under names such as "Small Plastic Dinosaur Toys". You can use the above picture as reference as they always come in a set with those toys in (although the colours do often vary).

Back to B&M's in the UK and they have bigger sets with larger dinosaurs like this one:

The exact same toys are available in a few different sets in that shop, some with just dinos, others with cars and some with palm trees etc. They're also available in different sets in the likes of Poundstretcher and other discount shops. Such as this one:

If you look around you should see the majority of the bigger dinos from ankylosaurus to the spinosaurus in a few sets, and at the prices you can fill out your bestiary pretty quickly and cheaply.

As such, I'd imagine similar, if not the exact same toys, will be available in other countries discount shops.

This set covers most of the middle and higher Star Factor dinosaurs too.

Then there's eBay. Many of the toys from the discount shops appear on eBay, and are usually insanely cheap.

This set is readily available on eBay. The plastic is cheap and the models are hallow with the most bizarre paint jobs you can imagine, but with a little green stuff and and quick paint job, they actually scrub up pretty well (i'll have to show them off in a future battle report.)

Lastly is the Compsognathus. These aren't the easiest to pick up. Because of their size, they dont tend to make many toys of them, but HLBS make a nice set of 10, so if you base them up individually (or 2 per base if you want to represent a swarm), they're very nice. http://www.hlbs.co.uk/product.php?id=767]http://www.hlbs.co.uk/product.php?id=767]http://www.hlbs.co.uk/product.php?id=767 (http://

That covers just about (if not all) of you're options you'll need for Dinoproof. If you're completely new to wargaming (i know most of you reading this aren't) but EM4 Miniatures Troopers and Gangers are perfect as Slayers at at around £2.50 for 5, that's enough to get your gaming group or club gaming right away.

We were down at Wargames Illustrated yesterday giving the folks there a run through of Dinoproof. Here's a couple of action shots from their game. We loved their board!

Hmmm I'm not sure. Unless anyone says otherwise, I assume it's probably a conversion of an existing train model.

Your site have been down for a couple of days (for me anyway(, do you know when it will be back up, or if one can buy your book from somewhere else?

And cool with the feature, it looks like a very cool game!

Oh no! :( We're sorry for the inconvenience. We're trying to get the website back up and running as soon as we can. If we can't get it back in a timely fashion, we'll send you a direct message with how to get one direct from us, but keep your eye on our website. Hopefully it'll be back up and running soon. There's plenty of free resources and new scenarios there for you to download too :)

Just a heads up to anyone on here who has purchased a copy of Dinoproof recently. We have had some issues with our email provider, which is being taken care of now, but we have had a delay on all recent orders. We are now processing every order. If there are any questions, message us via our Facebook page or on here until our email is sorted out.

Thanks

Just curious, but what's the shipping cost to the US? Your site just lists the cost without shipping.

Also, your resources page seems empty...

US shipping is £5.99. You'll just need to select the shipping option on the cart page:

For the resources you'll need to select Dinoproof from the drop down menu:
