Inspired by several other threads (normally the "post a pic of your last purchase") I figured this would be a decent place for this. A simple single picture of the last game you played and a quick simple sentence on thoughts/results/etc. This thread might help show what people are playing and help people find others who play certain games, etc. Mini games, board games etc.

Brilliant game by Richard Borg. Shame it's nearly impossible to find/purchase in the U.S. Brilliant use of the command colours rules set.

Got together with my favourite opponent for some retro 2nd edition 40K. It was a "living ruleset" as we're adjusting it to remove some clunk. I forgot to take a picture until I was nearly tabled! Good fun!

Brilliant game, heck I may get another game in tonight...I still can't find the game at MSRP or less stateside, but my buddy has a copy.

The last game I remembered to take a photo of, April; a Rapid Fire derivative of a friend's. A German motorcycle recce unit scouts out a French village.

Had a great weekend of gaming so have three pictures to share. First played another game of Mage Knight. First shot from my opponent was a critical hit and so my High Battle Mage WITH Shield Golem fell in three shot UGGGGGG!

This is a really inspiring thread. Last night I played was "Starcrashers" with my 5 year old son.
I'm really liking the rules and the fast play. I need to add some detail to my ships though. They've just been quickly spray painted one color to make them uniform in appearance.

Awesome to see this game still played!! Used to play this fiercely back in 2001-2004 (as in competitively with national championships and the whole sillyness). Loved it, until it became a mess of a game.
But still one of the best games I know in terms of rules and abilities.
-
1:1 scale skirmish at Corfe Castle - here the Saxon shield wall has just retreated up the bank following a Viking surprise attack breaching the palisade... :-P
As for proper wargaming... Not played anything in a log time I'm afraid!

Which one is you, Xander?

Very realistic painting on the miniatures :D
-
How big was your table 4x8 or 3x3 (miles of course :D)

Nice terrain ;D
Though the teddy bear fur grass looks a bit unrealistic. And those pipecleaner trees. ;D

Cheers chaps :-)
I swear some of those vikings weren't to scale - that guy in the mid green at the ruckus at the bottom of the hill is blatantly from a different range! lol
@Steve - I'm 4th in on the left hand shield wall, in the light green (and front right on this picture)

Most cool Xander 8)

On a major Bloodbowl Kick so played a few pre-League friendlies. The latest was against a brand new player who happened to be a professional rugby player.
It was jolly good, nadger-crushing fun.
"Oh my word, Bob look at the Rippers go; they're steamrollering into the Reivers like... Well, like a steamroller over a halfling garden party. Oh look at that - the Rippers are gathering around the fallen players and - I can't watch!"
"You don't have to watch, you can hear the screams from here. Definitely Soprano now as well, Jim."

Our home brew rules, 10mm fantasy, Dark Elves (who look a bit like High Elves) vs Araby. A great battle which initially seemed to be favouring Araby, swung back to the Elves, and was rather to close to call by the end of the game.
Here showing mainly the left flank, the elves are advancing past the village, in some strange phalanx formation, with Araby forces swarming around them.
-
Oooh, looks nice.
-
Cheers!
This is the other flank
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7IzSQsiSU5I/V0tLuj8b1gI/AAAAAAAAGWE/LafKThWvXrwbiIz1vL3NjlK_a4D_AwD-wCCo/s1280/IMG_1065.JPG)
A bit of a stand off, as the Elves failed lots of command rolls, and got shot up a bit - spot the Hydra at the back, it finally got into the battle late on.
-
I do like the spectacle of 10mm.
-
Rebs defend a river crossing...

More 10mm from Friday night

A good scenario which had the farm at the top left as the objective, with both forces having to move towards it through some very rough terrain.

A shoot out at a remote diner between my Genestealer cult and Adam's Imperial Guard. We used the Clash on the Fringe rules by Nordic Weasel Games.

How did it work out? We've been considering trying COTF for 40K sometime soon.
-
We've played a few games of CotF. It's great for scenario based stuff at around 20 or so figures. It's kind of like Rogue Trader was originally supposed to be but a much more modern ruleset.
With very little work you can get forces to feel the way you want them to.
-

Yep, I wanted to actually thank everybody - this is precisely what I was hoping for. I think it's a fun/cool way to see who is playing what/how/where. No brilliant maneuvering on display as both sides just lined up behind walls/hedges and let fly - a bullet contest the American dice won. A fun excuse to set up the toys, though. ; )

Well I played my regularly scheduled Mage Knight game. My opponent had to takeover a mage stone mine and free the Rebel workers locked behind the walls. It was an epic battle with only His Troll Knight surviving and walking out of the mine.

I was Nature, and had to transport an artefact off the table - this is my blocking forces, engaging the undead. Nearest the camera my Salamanders have charged down off their hill to destroy some wolves - in the middle there is a big pile up both sides of the farm involving Black Knights and various elementals.

Last saturday. Romans versus Celts in the main square of Lugo, NW Spain. My first ancient game in 30+ years and a complete rout for the Celts. Rules used were Hail Caesar. Celts were mainly painted by me.

Incidentally, I was NOT dressed as any kind of Roman or Celt. Just my usual barbarian chic.... ;D
Oh and as to the result, we, the Celts, got our heads handed to us by the Romans.....
-
I agree, I am making an effort to document games so I can post in this thread. And the above game looks good - learning that Lugo is the only city in the world to be surrounded by completely intact Roman walls. What have the Romans ever done for us (Australians)?

Another game of Zombicide (we're doing a quasi campaign with rules we made up on the fly...sadly I only get to play board games right now mostly)
Ahhh, when you spawn 20+ zombies in a single tile. We actually won despite this, losing only one of six characters.

Played the XCOM boardgame last night (got our ar..s kicked twice) but no pics of that.
Last Tuesday I someone also opened a can of whoopass in Frostgrave. I managed to "find" the Djinn in the second turn and with no magical weapons or offensive spells (Bone Dart isn't a magical attack unfortunately) there wasn't much I could do against it and it put a thug and my apprentice out of the fight :?

The follow up to our Sharp Practice AWI game. "Bigger Steps Forth" featured the Colonial Colonel Charles Bigger attempting to push the British back even further than he had at Greasy Creek. Sir Bernard, however, was not caught napping. The brief summary is here:

Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition.
We usually meet on regular bases for boardgaming and sometimes wargaming. Doomhippie told us about D&D 5 th edition, so we thought we give it a try. Most of us loved rpg`s. We had fun with character creating and started gaming the Lost mines of Phandalin.
We will continue that adventure.

Another game in our Cold War Commander Russian invasion mini campaign.
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=90346.msg1132956#msg1132956
The Russians are trying to push through the Danish forces to reach Copenhagen. But extremely poor command let to a crushing defeat for the Soviets. And to add insult to injury the US cavalry is speeding up through Germany to reinforce the Danish forces.

Photo's a bit dark I'm afraid.
Forces of Nature and Vampire Counts clash around a magical summoning portal (the central tower). The VC won as they are able to keep their Black Coach safe, while summoning in their army. A good game, which played very differently due the central objective, and lots of surrounding terrain.

I know I posted these up elsewhere, but the last game i played was Sharp Practice 2 with the Boshin war at Bovington

The Boshin War table looks excellent...the huge tanks in the background make it look...odd. lol

Photos won't load. I played Force Republique versus WW1 Germans. Lost but gave it good effort. Have to review how to load photos on LAF and try again after that review.

Played my regularly scheduled Mage Knight game. This was a good one because we are running an ongoing campaign with some roll play elements. This game was all about how two characters met. A Dwarven gunner we have named Frostriven (a unique fig we are using in our games) rescues Brother Troll from a band of Orcs :D
Here is the starting set up with Orcs arguing over their plunder.
After the Orcs where killed or had run off with what treasure they could carry Frostriven liberates Brother Troll who punches him in the face for waiting until all the fighting was done before liberating him from his cage lol lol lol

Lots more good looking games - I like the scope of the ECW game above
More 10mm Fantasy with our own rules, but using Warmaster figures.
The Empire gun line tries (unsuccessfully) to shoot off the undead cavalry cresting the hill
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XYzc-xVm8JA/V4KoCzmlNwI/AAAAAAAAGrM/adZZx1iNHzUmkIB-H0G3A2PVRqZoBPfOwCCo/s1280/IMG_1205.JPG)
The undead hordes mass to capture the village, while the Empire knights and flagellants prepare to wipe out the skeleton archers
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t4vrZCYcuW8/V4KoCw8cqaI/AAAAAAAAGrM/JRBdHdW2AMEuP-bGB5q7OzCqgePgRnqhQCCo/s1280/IMG_1206.JPG)
When the game ended (due to the late hour) the undead held the two villages, but sorely pressed around the rest of the table - and if the game had continued a couple more turns, they probably would have struggled to keep the villages.
-
The Warmaster stuff looks really fun, particularly with the less-dramatic historical looking terrain etc.
-
Ta, we normally play with 'historical' terrain - mainly because it's much easier to get hold of.

Game before last: Polubinskis Polish force ambushed Muscovites somewhere in Lithuania. First my opponents troops when deployed into defensive ring.
Next my last charge into his defences.
-
And the last game played. Honorable samurai Fusegi Buntaro with his retinue of three samurai and footmen was foully ambushed,
when gathering taxes from a local village. Rebellious but craven peasants and notorious bandits were seen but luckily for Buntaro-sama
they apparently did not co-ordinate their attacks. Even so two good samurai were lost so stern punitive action will most likely follow.

Had a chance to play "Dead of Winter" today. We added a new gaming friend to our group and it was his first time playing this game. In the end one of our group was a betrayer and took us all down with him as he turned the compound in to a crazy apocalypse cult. Again I highly recommend this game it is a great deal of fun and really gives a true sense of the tension involved in trying to survive under horrible circumstances.

A breakout scenario, Tau (white) in the middle trying to breakout from Imperial Guard (at the top, brown) and my Squats (outside the photo to the right). Sikh Wars using Donnybrook
What do you think of the Donnybrook rules?
I got them for my jacobite game thinking they were a skirmish game but I am not sure they are going to work with the small number of figures I have?
-
Colin we were really trying to push the envelope with this game, concentrating on units rather than characters and it worked very well.
I've played Donnybrook with 16 figure forces a side (4pts of elite troops each army) and if you look at the last scenario in the book it tells you how to play with individual characters as units.
There also Song of Drums and Shakoes which allow for small numbers of figures.
I'll send you an e mail with my thoughts.

Our Sharp Practice 2 AWI sort of campaign continues. Colonel Bigger, the Colonial commander attempts to sneak a gun past the British. Sir Bernard, the British commander, launched a brutal attack on the slow moving column (poor rolls for movement was a theme for the Colonials' evening). The ensuing battle firmly went Sir Bernard's way and Bigger was forced to abandon his gun.

Looks good. Interwar Mad Max seems to be in the air.
Yup, we're working on it (well...playing around with it). Original setting was going to be 'A Right Bloody Mess' (VBCW-Oz) but we're thinking of scenarios like moonshine runs in Southrn USA, Isle of Man racing in UK, Back of Beyond racing in the steppes of Central asia, and Paris to Dakar type scenarios (with Professor Fate and his Hannibal car). Good fun!

Last Monday, because our current DM is vacationing, we had to fill our evening with another game, and our usual go-to game in those cases is Myth. Several others of the group also were no-shows, so there was just the three of us.
Still; fun was had, and even though we only gamed a single encounter on just one large tile, it was a blast. Not in the least because The Voivod's Myth Kickstater is now (almost) completely painted, which is no mean feat!
The below picture may be a bit confusing because of all the brown tones, so I'll run you through it; We were facing two Spawn points (already gone here) and a whole fecal-load of Tailless (ratmen); both regulars and captains (the larger ones). Our party was composed of an Archer, a Bard, a Brigand and a Spriggan (basically a dryad/treeman) on the board. It doesn't help that the Brigand is also a Rat by the way. lol
And as a chance encounter, a Razorfiend also made an appearance. That'd be the big grey monster in the back on the left.
Myth is a fully cooperative dungeon crawler that encourages meta-gaming. In fact, it relies on it. Our group's tendency to do this has broken many a game (Hero Quest; I'm looking at you :D ), so Myth really matches our play style. Also; it's the group versus the game's engine, so no Short-Straw-DMs anymore either! lol
This session was pretty brutal, even though it was just the one tile. We lost the Brigand, and the Bard teetered on the brink of death for a long time, until my Spriggan was able to heal her (a bit).
But we managed to take out the spawn points relatively fast (before the board would be totally swamped with angry rats) and the rest should have been an easy mop up, were it not for that nasty Razorfiend to show up, obviously curious about all that excited squeeking down the hall.
Just after this picture was taken, my Spriggan was able to summon an Elder (basically a huge and really cranky treeman), who was able to take some of the heat off the, by then, bruised and battered heroes.
When I say bruised and battered, I'm talking about the mammals in the party though; my tanky Spriggan barely suffered a scratch (he starts out each game very weak, but usually gets up to bunker levels by the end of the game as he constantly regenerates armour and has a lot in the way of defensive capabilities. He's supposed to draw in the incoming hurt, away from the more offensive party members, but is slow and often gets left behind by zealous gung-ho other players (I did warn that Brigand, honest! ;D ).
In the end though, between the Archer and the Spriggan, we were able to clear the tile (the Bard hid in a corner, being down to just one hitpoint) and after-battle chatter could commence.
Yeah, we all love Myth; it's a great game... :)

A big 3 way Space Marine vs Space Marine vs Space Marine battle, with changing allegiances. This was the start of turn 2.

Had a co-operative Two Hour Wargame (Chain Reaction) game with Gibby, where the four heroes investigated a deserted space station. Mission - recover five clues to what happened and return to the shuttle at the top of the board. We wrote up a quick encounter table that scaled as the station alert level went up (by the number of shots fired). Random tables for equipment found and special events (which seemed to happen all the time...).
What happened? Xenomorphs happened...
High points - the Queen getting stuck in a door (failed three activations in a row) and getting her head blown off at short range. Making it back to the shuttle with two characters left and 15 Xenomorphs on our tails...
Low point - dropping a grenade on one chap wounded and surrounded by aliens. Took all of them out but still... :(
Table wass 2x4 ft, mats by Mantic, walls by Battlesystems, scatter terrain by Ainsty and Antenociti.
The photos of the actual game didn't come out so well, but here's one of the table setup:

We played a game of Classic Car Wars. I have the miniatures produced years ago and so the pit areas where full as the three amatures took to the arena. It was a blast! I say this even though I was the first eliminated when the newest member of our group hit me head on!!!! :o >:( . That allowed the other member of the group to easily finish me off :-[ :'(. The only redeeming thing was he went on to eliminate my protagonist as well as our newest member making him the victor o_o lol. This is one of those games that I played so much in the early days that I wore out two sets of counters and have all of its various incarnations. Still the classic version is the best.

Love the look of that. It must over 25 years since I had a game. A couple of questions if I may:
1. Is that the car wars arena you can buy ? (never seen it in action)
2. How long did the game take ?
Kind regards

A fun game trying some house rules to simplify Epic Armageddon.

Love the look of that. It must over 25 years since I had a game. A couple of questions if I may:
1. Is that the car wars arena you can buy ? (never seen it in action)
Yes. Car War Expansion set #5 Double Arena Circa 1984 8) It is only half of the "Buffalo Municipal Coliseum" with the addition of the bunkers (The map only had one) You might be able to find someone selling it on ebay. Steve Jackson games has come out with a new Arena Box set which is readily available but this arena is not in it.
2. How long did the game take ?
We played about two hours. But the other two had never played. Car wars amature fights can end in a hurry especially when one player rams another at 50 mph lol
One more thing I think the cars were produced by dark horse miniatures. The trucks are standard N-guage rail road stuff. Glad you got a kick out of seeing our game.

Got to play my sparkling brand new second hand copy of space crusade.
This game has balancing issues o_o. After a temptive first tile, the chaos player hit me with all his heavy hitters on the second one and slaughterd me. Don't think it plays that well with only one marine player.
More marines next time.
Can't wait to give these models a nice old school paint job.

Just found this thread and enjoyed looking through all the cool games being played.
For me it was Dragon Rampant. We are having a great time with this rule set and putting a wide variety of the Fantasy figure collection on the table.
Death Chase scenario in which my Undead forces were attempting to break through the blocking Human forces in order to wreak havoc on the lands beyond. (Undead need to move units off the opposite table edge.) By the end of the session, my Undead were able to collapse the right flank and create a path to break out.

Last moments of tonight's game of Dreadball... I was 1-0 ahead with the Zzorr and failed to score a two-pointer in my last turn. With a lot of effort and succesful dice rolls my opponent managed to get to my strike zone, aiming for a two-pointer (that would win him the game). 1 roll of 4+ would be enough lol.
Awesome game. I love Dreadball.

(sigh) I played a game of that recently and had half-forgotten my own damn rules. I even brought up the old file and started re-doing it. I need to stop working on SnS and get back to it. I lost serious interest when I lost a good/quality way to print my cards, but I can cope with the ones I have. :`

Very intrigued by the rule system you have developed. Do you have a link you could share ? Had a look on your blog, but couldn't see one.
I have loads of mechs, that could do with an outing :)

Yeah, I'll be revising the rules and re-posting them (likely to the blog). Also have to re-do the strategy deck since it went missing. It's essentially a skirmish game aimed between classic Battletech and Alpha Strike.

Another game of Sharp Practice 2 in our AWI pseudo campaign. As Sir Bernard establishes some redoubts to protect British lines of supply the bold Colonel Bigger launches an attack with everything he can muster. The luckless Colonials have previously lost Major Hump and Captain Reckitt who were replaced with Von Trumpe leading the Minutemen and Captain Nookey leading the horse. A fast advance by the Colonials almost caught the British on the hop but they managed to reinforce their lines and despite suffering very heavy casualties on the left flank they held. This was the first use of artillery in our SP2 games and it went OK. The game ended with the Colonial forces relatively intact but rendered practically immobile by shock caused by the British artillery.
The photo shows Sgt Fiddler firing on Nookey's Dragoons as they attempted to cross the river for about the fifth time.

6mm Sci-Fi, using our cut down Epic rules, played Squats vs Tyranids. Was a very quick game, as the Squats (who had been winning quite a lot of games) couldn't get their gun line into order and were eaten in quick order by my fast slithering Tyranids.

No tiffin card in Rapid Fire ;)
Bloody right Jeff ;)
I wouldn't ordinarily choose 15mm WW2, but since my old friend went to all the trouble to lay it on it would have been rude not to. And actually, it was really quite a good game. Maybe Rapid Fire is the answer to my quest for 28mm WW2 rules for the Western Desert, and I should forget all this new-fangled CoC vs BA stuff... RF seemed a perfectly serviceable set of rules to me ::) ;)

Last Friday at New Buckenham Historical Wargamers we played a refight of Talavera 1809 - Ruffin's night attack. This was played in 28mm using Black Powder rules with a few scenario specific tweaks. This was the first of two pre-actions put on at the club that will tie in with the re fight of the main afternoon battle in January. Unlike previous games the players on both sides knew that the losses sustained would be factored in to the next battle. This made a change to the usual mentality of 'the evenings coming to an end, let's throw in one last attack', and both sides were careful with their planning and resources.
A few photographs of the action.

Zombies and Pulp Alley,
how could you go wrong. lol
How do the zombies move?
Do they move as a league?
Also love your terrain.
-
Thanks Marine!
The zombies have some basic rules and are independent. You start with some Z's on the board but add spawn areas as you would plot points on the board and draw cards to determine how many Z's spawn every turn. There is a chance that you may get a horde too! They basically move automatically after everyone has gone. If there is someone in line of site, they move towards them. If someone shoots and there is no-one in line of site they move towards the sound. Otherwise random movement. Mr. Peabody built an excellent rule add-on for Pulp Alley. I bet he'll send it to him if you ask him!:) We've been having a ton of fun with it!

Codsticker - I like the idea of gaming in front of the couch! Do you have a very big coffee table, or was that on the floor?
I played more 6mm SciFi - Tau vs Squats. The Tau attack was shot to pieces by the dug in Squats - this is kind of mid game, where the Tau aircraft (flying very low) have attacked but not really caused enough damage. Things went downhill for them from here

Well, some will have seen these pictures before and will roll their eyes. It's been more than three years since I've had a game at the house. Largely because I have been on an unending job search for nearly two years. I have had games at a couple of friends' houses, but don't have pics to show.

Throw this one in too, I guess. In the picture below, the T-26 tanks on the hill in the above picture have come down and one of the farm's buildings can be seen to the left. In the bottom left corner, a T-26 has demonstrated exactly what it thinks of the German Pak 36 that gave a lot of grief to that column of tanks in the above picture. The infantry battle at the farm in the first picture above is taking place to the left of the picture.

Hi,
Here is a photo of the last wargame I played, French Foreign Legion verses Arabs using The Men Who Would be Kings rules. The Arabs were my figures and the Legion were from the collection of my late friend and long time wargames opponent John Pearson, who sadly passed away from cancer in May. The game was held at the Glasgow G3 Annual Spencer Warner Memorial Day, a day of gaming held by the club annually on the last Saturday in November in memory of one of the club's founders who also sadly passed away from cancer a few years ago. All proceeds from the club's Spencer Warner Day go to MacMillan Cancer support and this year we raised over £500.

I cant believe it is 3 years since Spencer passed away.Met him a few times at the Glasgow show and Carronade too.He was one of those people who loved miniatures and could talk for ages about all different ranges.Sadly missed.

the blue car almost won the day even though he had suffered major damage early on in the game. It was the last to be put out of commission so the "skull" won the arena trophy and salvage rights :D Great game.

That's awesome. I love Car Wars!

We use a version of the old McCoy standard units for our OBs. We find they still work fine after all these years. They use a 1 model = about 5 vehicles scale and these match the combat rules we use.

We played another game of Elbow Tech. Three Mercenary lances make a night raid on a city looking for an Inner Sphere Star chart to help them avoid the military. I hid a token under a building all assumed to be hardened structures that could not be destroyed by Mech fire. We had to pay one command dice to have our infantry serach a building. Once the token was found we had to escape off our edge of the board. I must say the infantry cards that come out when in an urban invironment are NASTY :o This was great fun.

White marines (Death Guard?) and Yellow Marines (Imperial Fists, me) vs Red Marines (can't remember!!) and Blue Chaos Marines (1000 sons)
In a big punch up to light 6 cauldrons to summon some Demon or the other. Great game, even if it did rather turn in to get me! This is near the end and my ally (white) is slowly moving forward wth giant formations shooting all away from in front of him. I think he suffered 4 casualties all game, one of which was from a dangerous terrain test!

Escape for Colditz (Osprey reissue)
When I had seen this was been re-issued, it immediately hit the nostalgia buttons, as I kind of remembered playing it with friends 30+ years ago. So it went on my Christmas Amazon list. When it was unwrapped my daughters were interested in playing (which was a win!), so we played our first game on Christmas day evening.
The production values are very high - the box is really heavy! The board is thick and nicely illustrated. The pieces within the box come in 'red cross food parcel boxes' and there are various facsimile documents.
It is a long game - especially at times you can spend a lot of time thinking, this is particularly true for the German player who is trying to second guess the prisoners. Steph ended up with all but one of her prisoners in Solitary confinement - as she couldn't roll doubles to free them. I managed to get two prisoners to escape, both by scaling walls with lots of rope and then making a mad dash. The second one was shot at by a guard, but fortunately had the lucky talisman that halved the guard's shooting result, it wasn't needed as the guard rolled a 3 (on 2d6) and narrowly missed his own toes!
-
Lovely. Osprey have been knocking it out of the park with their boardgames, many of which should appeal to wargames, thematically.
-
Yep, its really nice. Looking at the photos of the old version online, it seems very similar, but smartened up. The rules have had an update and clarification too.

I have the original, looks the same apart from the numbers around the edge
What do the numbers do?
-
They are the turn tracker. 50 turns for beginners 40 for more experienced. With the option of up to 70 if you want to play all day!
If you have the original you might want to download the new rules from BGG.

The last game I played?
The first game in over 10 years!
With my newly painted collection and terrain boards, and my own ruleset for medieval battles.
My opponent was a friend I have lured into gaming.... I think he enjoyed it! He won, which is a good thing.

Played my first game on my new Western board. The showdown at Tinkers Creek - Using the "Rules with no Name" pitted two outlaw gangs against the law and citizens of Tinkers creek. Played with my son and his boys over the Christmas holiday.
Here's the game background story
Tinkers Creek is a little cow town on the southern edge of the Arizona territory experiencing a boom since the rail line came through. The boom comes with the usual altercations over women, cards and booze. On a hot July night after one to many beers and an accusation of cheating at cards a young Mexican gunfighter Alejandro Navarro lay dead on the saloon floor and Kenny Stoker was in the lock up for Murder.
The Stoker gang is set on busting out Austin's brother Kenny and Alejandro's brother Victor's gang is set on revenge. The law of Tinkers creek with the help of the towns citizens is tasked with seeing that Kenny lives long enough to meet his maker at the end of a rope.

The ending was like an epic western. Victor Navarro fights his way to the side entrance of the jail kicks in the door shoots the deputy knocking him to the floor and then kills Kenny thus avenging his brothers death. It was awsome :D

After much persuasion my friend added more palm trees and a banana plantation to his board and the Force Republique' was able to close to HTH - after charging across a river/stream - and give the German colonial forces a fight worth having.
Showing his 40K background the forces were line 'en up and close as usual in the setup but he was enlightened above how terrain changes the game dynamic in The Sword in Africa.

I just wanted to say - I love this thread! :-*
I have no problem finding time to do modelling and painting, so as inspiring as the rest of the site often is, I don't really need the encouragement... but finding time to game is often very difficult, so I check this thread regularly to remind me what it's all about!
So, if you've ever posted a pic of your last game, thank you! :D

Forces of Nature (predominately Pendraken) vs Herd/Barbarians (Copplestone and Kallistra) and Demons (GW Warmaster)
A big win for my Forces of Nature, who ripped apart the defending Demons and Herd, allowing them to transport the artefact to the stone circle (well the last bit was theoretical as it was late, so we called the game!)

I finally found a good copy of Star Wars Epic Duels at a reasonable price and bought it for myself this past Christmas. Finally got around to playing it with by gaming group. I did use some of my WotC figures in place of the ones that came in the game but otherwise its the classic game. Great for a quick Star Wars fix :D

Early in our Tractics game, landing at Dieppe.
Pretty much as far as the British advanced as next turn the German defenders opened up and ground our advance to a halt. Lucky turret ring and suspension hits on the tanks and that pretty much it.

OOo those 15mm (?) Crusaders and saracens are gorgeous!

Played a weird wild west game. The townsfolk of Tinkers Creek have heard that there is a fortune of gold hidden in the ghost town of Mule Shoe. No one has gone there for years because it was said to have been wiped out by a plague and cursed by an Apache Medicine man. The temptation of gold was strong enough to overcome their fear. Once they arrived they begin to turn on each other and are then confronted by the remains of the towns past (Zombie Cowboys) :o :o :o :D

The living dead attack :o o_o
The best part was when one player had the gold and was heading for the edge of the board. He tried to enlist the help of the other player and then decided to shoot him in the back instead. That character then became a Zombie and eventually prevented the first player from getting off the board. Zombie win :D :D

Got a little Dragon Rampant in tonight - fun fact - the Clan War Crane hadn't seen the light of day since 2001, and the Brettonians were a 3rd/4th edition army. I love this game just for the fact we keep pulling figures out that are older than some of the people watching us play.

Another SP2 game,Garibaldi again :)
First picture is Neapolitan Light inf defending a cemetery, second is a unit of Piccotti sneaking through a walled garden.
Neapolitans won the game :)

Some more snaps of the game.
First picture are the Garibaldini after deployment, yes they do look suspiciously like Perry ACW minis :),the second is of the Neapolitan cavalry cantering toward their demise on the Garibaldini bayonets a few moves later :)

It's not up to the painting standards of this thread, because we used a lot of wip figures (I paint slowly and I have to provide everything for these games) but here is episode four, part one of our Orks vs Cowboys game, The Siege of the St. Bernard mission.

The first wave, consisting of 52 goblins and a cave troll assaulting the walls defended by outlaws, farmers, monks and three mysterious strangers. All minis by Erik. Despite the fact that the minis were painted upwards of ten years ago. It was their first apperance on a gaming table! And it showed. The curse of newlypainted minis apparently lingers on even up to and beyond the 10 year mark. We both rolled a string of 2's and 3's. But it was still good fun.
As everything is multibased every base counts as two men. It made the units look nice and bulky.

Such a nice cheesy game.
Unfortunatly I have a really hard time getting my copy to the table.
I'm afraid my game group isn't into zombies as much as I am. If I do get to play a boardgame, they have other preferences.
Might sell it, I'm afraid.

No terrain.
Red troops attack across an empty, snow laden field against a he rear of Canadian gun supporting off board allied forces and American Lewis gun team was the support.
Eventually the Allies spotted the Reds ( my two "E" quality companies - "A" best, "E" worst; and my coplayer with his two fanatic "D" companies) and the slaughter began. The Scots/Brits with another Lewis gun reinforcements arrived to complete breaking my companies. I ran risking stragglers while my coplayer walked. As Battalion commander (see flag) I died, along with flag bearer, my girlfriend informed my coplayer Command figure. He withdrew, my under officer conformed to the retreat. My coplayer was executed post battle and my underofficer was promoted to the command of the battered battalion.

I loath, LOATH, soccer.
But then you get mini's involved and there's immidiatly a small part in my mind that goes: 'That could actually be fun....'

I used to coach children, and also took the referee's exam, so I have a long-lasting relationship with the game. These days I only watch international matches, I have absolutely no interest in national leagues, but I like Striker a lot. Fast and tense action, as soon as you get to grips with the basics.
Another game in progress, against my daughter (she's playing the blue team):

Brilliant!
8) 8)
I absolutely loved 2nd edition at the time and have been considering getting hold of a copy for a while.
Is it as good as the rose-tinted memory goggles tell me it is?
-
It can be with the right group. We're tossing out lots of game-breaking stuff and have introduced drawn-activations, etc. We're revamping close combat and the psychic phase. It's just as breakable as most games of its type, but if you all agree to not be lousy bastards it's a good time for sure.
Far more enjoyable (for me at least) than later editions.

I've been assembling a blog for 2nd edition 40K (and our subsequent revision of it - all in due time). I've gone to great lengths to start collecting the best PDFs on the web, we're re-doing/updating datafaxes into PDF form, and I'm creating rules cheat sheets, etc. Worth a look - hope for it to become a treasure trove of content in the future.

Set up for tomorrow's SofBH game. The Magnificent Seven Dwarfs are on the way home, with booty taken in battle with the Orcs of the Splintered Moon. Sellswords and adventurers under Baron Hardupp's banner have caught the scent. While the Knights of the Vale are always up for adding to their treasure hoard...

We're getting through Warbosses at an alarming rate. The rule is if he dies you have to paint a new one. General Ballroom is on his 4th of the campaign now :)
We started with 500 points, and added 100 each game - next week is 1000 points a side.
I suspect the Boss of Waaagh Ginganutz will ultimately rise to be "Da Git of All Gitz" and rule the three klans with his Iron Klaw.

It's quite original. Custom dice are rolled to shift gear or skip trouble or -if you're unlucky- cause spins or slides. Movement is by template (think Xwing). The choice of a movement template is determined by your current gear/speed and will offer opportunities or risks depending on your current speed vs the intended maneuver. This is all depicted on the template.
Cars are defined by their speed (Gears), weight, handling and hit points. Weight is important when collisions occur. The better a car handles, the more risks you can take. Taking risks will eventually get you in trouble and cause your car to stall or -sometimes- crash.
It is -as it should be- fast and furious :D

Love those A-10s. While the Cold War was on, pairs of those things would fly real low, roaring over my house every single day, like clockwork. Then one day, some time after the fall of the Berlin Wall, they just stopped coming. I kind of miss those noisy fellows. Kind of.

When I was a kid, during the summers Grumman would fly newly built F-14s over our houses. It was cool to watch them twirl around.

Another game in our 1809 Austrian campaign.
It was an interesting game as the Austrians, with a much larger unit on the table, moved straight towards the smaller French unit, who also advanced. The French then turned and fled in front of the Austrians, who pounced on them but failed to capitalise, killing only one. This was a ruse by the French, however, who followed up by bringing their own large squadron of hussars. The French trotted forward as the Austrians reformed to meet them. The French then took the initiative and plunged forward in two lines. The melee was surprisingly one sided with the French dominating, causing casualties amongst half their ranks.
The French hussars having just chased off their Austrian counterparts found themselves in front of a small unit of grenzers. Finding themselves in the open the Austrian infantry decided to flee. Another unit of Austrian hussars who had moved up in support were too far away from the melee to assist. They then came under long range, but accurate fire from French lights in a nearby wood who were protecting the French hussars' right flank. With the French cavalry in front and an early casualty from musketry, they retired leaving the hamlet to the French.
As casualties all count in the campaign this was a fairly decent French victory.

Is Shadow War generally an inferior game do you think? What made it yawn compared to Mordheim?
I loved Mordheim back in the day, and would love to play a game or two of it today. Even if I think the whole rule system is daft and broken, the setting was so great and the terrain so fun to make and play on it made for a great game.
I never played Necromunda, but understand it was/is just as popular. Is Shadow War nothing like Necromunda then?
-
Re: Charlie
Just personal opinion, but SWA is just a less-deep, less involving version of Necromunda's rules...played with 10x more lethal units. Necromunda's fun came from developing characterful gangers and arming them with scrounged weapons (of questionable reliability) and seeking revenge on the opposing gang who put out your eye, or made you go mad, etc. The fun came from the fact that generally everyone sucked at most combat related things. Finding something like a quality pistol/rifle was a big deal, and anyone with a BS4 was to be feared etc. I think the rules reflected that - and you spent half of your effort surviving Necromunda itself between games - let alone your opposing gangers.
SWA removes the deeper purpose of gang/killteam development between games (something I enjoy as much as the game itself) and gives far too efficient/deadly characters to the kill teams. Couple that with the relatively scant/boring kill team options and it just really paled in comparison to having just played a bunch of Mordheim. I disliked the extreme lethality of SWA (my Exarch chopped through five guardsman in seconds, which, while accurate...doesn't make it fun for the IG player). I disliked the arbitrary "you get to level up one character per game...regardless of what they did" approach to advancement. This, of course, maintains balance...but is comically boring. The out-of-action table was cut down to a single D6 roll and rather blase results (have of which are more beneficial than harmful).
I dislike the ready availability of exceptionally lethal weapons, and super-easy to purchase bonus equipment like red-dot sights etc. There's no desperation, no penny-pinching, no carefully crafting a list. I understand this game might seem amazing to someone who's only played 3rd-7th ed. 40K, but I find it doesn't really scratch the Necromunda itch, and I'd rather just play a proper game of 2nd ed. 40K if we're going that route.
I think some people might like playing super fast, forgettable games just to get models on the table - I like a bit more crunch/connection to games like this.
I think the game could be really cool with a heavy dose of house-rules or some expansions, but as it stands, it was really pale in comparison to Mordheim which we'd just played about 3-4 times prior.

A long time ago... A downed Rebel Y-wing crew and Imperial TIE interceptor ace await rescue amid an Eldonni desert storm. Played in 20mm with custom rules. To represent the sand-storm and large area being searched, I used random movement across 12 board sections, which meant unexpected encounters with enemy patrols or wild animals as both sides searched for clues (droid tracks / fighter-debris) to the location of their sides pilots.
Nice tension with each move to see would a detachment find its sides pilots, or the opponents crashsite, or else run smack-bang into the main enemy rescue-force. The highlight was an Imperial section being shredded and stomped by a herd of angry desert beasts :) In the end both sides extracted their targets successfully with minor loss to both sides.

Yesterday's game...
Dead Man's Gulch has been drunk dry and the supply wagon is dawdling it's way into town, Old Stumpy guarding it with his trusty scatter gun. Dolores Trollope and her underlings have decide to take all the booze. Down the other end of the Gulch Snake Eyed Pete and his underlings have decided to take all the booze.
Deputy Dick got it first right through the melon. In a surprising turn Snake Eyed Pete got his one way ticket to Boot Hill well punched too. What followed next was the deadliest shootout i've ever seen in all our games of FofL... nobody missed, nobody got wounded, all the lawdogs, Dolores Trollope and her entire gang fell in a blizzard of well aimed lead. When the gunsmoke cleared all of Snake Eyed Pete's bunch were still on their feet... at least they'd have plenty of Redeye to toast the little man's deemise!
"That was quick."
"Yeah, everybody could shoot."

Mongoose's Conan: The Roleplaying Game.
"Mosveld Adventures #3: Reprisals", the conclusion to our spin-off miniseries of the Sagas of The Gautrian Kings (http://swordandsorceryrpg.com/the-campaign/sgk_overview/) storyline in our home-brew sword and sorcery world.

The night began with an intense PvP manhunt through the city streets of Mosveld.

It was a rollicking good time, worthy of "a great B-movie script" as one player said mid-way through the evening. The perfect way to spend a Saturday night.

This thread just keeps on giving. A spectacular colonial game, lovely terrain for the fantasy game, and that's one freaky beasty in the fallout game.
-
I love this thread, one of my favourites on here.
However, may I just politely (and somewhat pedantically :)) point out that the title of the thread is "Post a pic of the last game you played" and not "Post several pictures of the last game you played"?
Part of the pleasure for me is being able to quickly scan a lot of pictures of different games
It's no biggie, and I appreciate I may be in a (curmudgeonly, pedantic :)) minority here, but I preferred it when all I saw was a single image of a game and then could follow links to blogs or other threads if I wanted to see more.
There are already threads running where people post multiple pictures of their games - this thread was always a bit different.
Lately there's been quite a few multiple shots of single games.
This isn't intended as an attack on anyone who has posted multiple images - I really enjoy the contributions of everyone, it's just my observation that the thread seems to have drifted slightly from its original intent.

Yes, it is OOP. We love the rule system, it fits a low level sword and sorcery story very well.

Due to pressures of work and family we haven't been gaming as often as we would like. When we do, it's been alternating between WWII in Burma using Bolt Action, and Napoleonics using Black Powder.
Recently the planets lined up, with four of us available for a game. We decided it would be a good opportunity to once again try and chastise the great Thief of Europe .
With 28mm miniatures on my 6'x4' table. We found that using the BP rules with the scenarios from Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames makes for ideal games, with no more than six units a side leaving plenty of space for maneuver.
It's a stubborn myth that Black Powder- or just Napoleonics in general- only works with large games.
We managed to get two scenarios in on one day last Sunday- one a very abstracted and scaled-down battle of Wavre, the other based on Langensalza, 1866. Both were challenging and fun- a great success.
The table looked good, dice were fickle, and the scenarios themselves proved tense.
Really fun day.

Garibaldini were irregulars with elite and fierce bumping their points up to six per unit, Neapolitans were regular but with poor shots and unsteady dropping their points to four per unit.
Neapolitans were defenders with 18 point force,Garibaldini had 24 point force and had to capture the bridge in 12 moves.Garibaldi's boys won in turn eight. :)

Lovely board!
Question: Do you require players to dress in colors that complement the terrain? ; )
I think it's a great idea.

I haven't played 40k for quite some time and your summary made me remember why. I'm glad people enjoy it but the unstoppable characters, lists and codexes are just not for me. Also "theiving shitweasel" gave me a laugh.

I actually played a game of the new 40K (first real game in 12-13 years). It was actually very fun and I enjoyed it. I've put some models on the table over the past month or two trying out 7th ed. (I just wanted to roll some dice) and it was absolutely terrible. This was 10x better. We created a scenario and I enjoyed myself, despite getting absolutely throttled.
-
Space marines get a -1 on all dice rolls if they are based on washers.

Good thing they're not based on washers then. ;)

Eric, on the footing that imitation is the sincerest form of grovelling... I've shamelessly nicked your brilliant scenario for our game tomorrow. Hopefully the idiots I play with won't have read this and I can take all the credit for a brilliant idea!

Well - what do you guys think? Should we start a new thread which doesn't feature 40% of the content dropped by Photobucket, or just soldier on? Personally I'm in favour of a new thread...
-
I think a new thread is a reasonable idea but keeping this one at the same time (locking it for the time being).
Maybe closing it at around 40 pages or so might not be a bad idea as it will get too wieldy otherwise.
