Really nice looking figures, yet another collection to think about!! >:( ;D

This is a generic figure that can be used for both Austrian and Hungarian line as well as Grenz troops, he will also suit Croat troops. Pics below for ref as well as image in Osprey book on Austrian inf 1836-1866
-
Nice work Geoff, lovely work on this period.
-
Thanks Helen, but thanks needs to go to all those who have contributed info on uniforms and units involved, therefore making Steve's sculpting more evocative, for ref material has come from many sources some easily known as well as other information from obscure tomes........these fuel the hunger of those of us who game esoteric periods.
-
Thanks Geoff.
-
Great ,generic figure.
-
Oh no, another 19th century period for me, I am undone...
-
Just to say, release of The Hungarians is imminent, the Austrians will be following in about a months time
-
.They hunt here they hunt there...if not sniping in Italy I enjoy the hunting in Hungary....!
An Austrian Jager in 28mm, a little tidying up to do....
Information about equipment arrangement came from the book " La Spada Di Radetzky" which is well illustrated, some other ref pics are shown below.
-
Neat!
-
Those are really fine figures ,not stiff.Good job.
-
The first of The Hungarian Foot Artillery crew greens, this is a fairly generic figure that can be used on its own or a variety of tools put in its right hand, a second figure is closely following .

A couple of further additions
-
Lovely work all round! The range increases in variety of belligerents involved.
Further to this news, I have seen the conversion of a Honved wearing kepi on the original Honved wearing shako. This was viewed on Ed M's blogger.
-
New additions to the range sponsored by The Grey Heron
-
And more!
-
And even! and in the future a field piece and rocket will be added
-
The last miniature will have a rocket in his hands which will be positioned on a tripod. In addition a 6lb artillery piece will be available soon. This rocket and artillery piece will be usable for both sides.
My thanks to Geoffrey for posting the greens and naturally my thanks to Steve Barber for sculpting the figures.
The next commission will see further German Legionnaires, Hungarian National Guard and Polish Legion plus a mounted General Bem.
Thanks.

Thanks Chris for your kind words. Thanks also for linking your gaming report.
The Austrians will receive some attention after the Hungarians have some additional inclusions to the range.
Cheers!

Thanks, Helen. I really like what Steve and his sponsors are doing. The Hungarian war of independence is a fascinating conflict and deserves more attention from wargamers. And not just for the splendid moustaches!

Thanks Chris, Thanks to Geoff, a few members have taken the plunge to help out in this period. I've just given Steve his third commission for the Hungarians. There will be two further commissions of Hussars in the older pattern uniform, National Guard in skirt with assorted peasant headdress and armed with muskets. Then will look at the Austrians.
Cheers!
-
The rocket for the Hungarians is now completed by Steve Barber. This weapon was used by both sides during the Up-Rising. My thanks to Steve in making this model for me. This is the second last piece for my second commission. Just now awaiting on the 6lb cannon which can be used by both sides.

There is a mounted officer and drummer coming from another kind person who has commissioned some of the range.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Helen

Before I forget, Steve Barber released on his website four more miniatures for the Hungarian Up-Rising 1848-49. Miniatures commissioned by Ed M for the Honved Officer an a Honved in Kepi. Geoff for the National Guardsmen from Bihar in skirt and shako and Steve Barber for the Honved wearing Fur Hat. Thank you very much for your commission work and continued contributions to the range that Geoff our esoteric collector/gamer started in the first place and had me join and commission Steve in adding to the range a little later on.

Hello.
Just an update of where the range stands at the moment. Steve is currently working on a number of miniatures for the Hungarian Up-rising for me.
There are a number of miniatures for the range to be released over the coming months. You can scroll through previous threads to get an idea of miniatures to be released.
Currently on the workbench:
General Bem Vignette. General Bem on mounted standing horse and two foot miniatures.
Austrian/Hungarian 6lb foot artillery piece. Barrel and wheels completed, carriage on workbench.
I'm slowly filling-out the drummers that are needed. Overtime the standard bearers will be included and other trappings.
Just a reminder that Steve is currently working on a Honved drummer an a Honved Standard Bearer which will have head variants from another kind folk.
I hope to provide Steve with the following commission work over the coming months in the order as shown. All future work is naturally predicated on funds being available. No release date is fixed.
German Legionnaire Standard Bearer
German Legionnaire Drummer
National Guard Officer (Rural) advancing with shouldered sword. This officer will have a uniform coat, slouch hat (brim down) with large plume, shoes an a sheepskin coat or something similar.
National Guard Drummer from Bihar with small round hat.
Szekeler drummer with fore and aft cap advancing.
Hungarian/Habsburg (service) drummer in shako and full dress uniform marching.
Honved NCO advancing
Honved Officer with folded kepi headdress, blanket roll advancing with shouldered sword
Hungarian Hussar Trooper
Hyundai cavalry trooper
Austrian Officer in coat and shouldered sword marching
Austrian drummer in shako marching
Grenz advancing in greatcoat and cap with only a cartridge belt over left shoulder. To be used as a Croat of the Ban during the Hungarian Up-Rising.
Croat advancing with musket.
I'll keep you updated as time passes on.
Thank you for your time.

Thanks. I've plenty on the painting table too, but too many jobs on the property to get to painting miniatures at the moment.
Steve is creating some great figures for the Hungarian Up-Rising that was started by Geoff - I just love the period.
I'm looking forward to Steve cracking on with the list very soon. General Bem's vignette is done less the staff officer. Steve just needs to complete the staff officer before taking a group shot. Will be worth the wait. I'm very pleased how the vignette has turned out.
Thanks for your interest.

Some new greens just done for the Hungarian Up-Rising.
Firstly, a German Legionnaire stand bearer. A minor conversion from the legionnaire drinking from his water canteen:

Honved NCO This miniature has the short sword in addition to the bayonet scabbard,. His shako also has the bands around the top of shako:
There will be some releases for this range in the coming weeks from Steve Barber Models.
Jut a note, that the German Legionnaires can also double up as later Viennese Legion less officer. I will endeavour to have an officer in frock coat with all the accouterments necessary to distinguish him from a German Legionnaire Officer. When it comes to the Viennese Legionnaire Drummer, I'll look to a different headdress for him as well as the German Legionnaire Drummer will have a folded Kepi.
Thank you for looking.

One will need a steady hand to paint that ribbon on the hat. I'll still have to buy her at some stage.

We have been discussing the Hungarian Revolution at my local club following a members trip to Hungary recently.
Is there a source book for covering the revolution in English ?
-
Hello Emir,
There are a number of books in English covering the Hungarian Up-Rising. If you are after a general book covering the affair then: ‘The Lawful Revolution – Louis Kossuth and the Hungarians 1848-49’, by Istvan Deak. I don't have the book personally, but it has been recommended.
https://www.amazon.com/Lawful-Revolution-Kossuth-Hungarians-1848-1849/dp/1842121480
For uniforms: Ralph Weaver’s book ‘The Hungarian Army 1848-1849’, published by Partisan Press.
https://www.caliverbooks.com/Partizan%20Press/partizan_phm_14.shtml
There is in addition, a uniform book for the Hungarian War wrtitten by Barcy Zoltan and Somogyi Gyozo "A Szabadsagharc Hadserege or for a latter edition by Smogyi himself. Available through Amazon.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/honv%C3%A9d-army-1848-1849-honv%C3%A9dsereg/dp/9633276861
MWAN Magazines numbers 120 and 123 in PDF format from the Wargame Vault are an invaluable source which would suffice if you wish to look at the period. I recommend these two editions as a starting point. Bill Haggert rounds out the whole period in a lovely style of writing including illustrations of uniforms. You should use these as a reference point when using other references and marrying up uniform detail.
Hope this helps you. Good luck with your mates at the club.
-
Thanks again Helen,
I'll keep you posted.

Hello Gribb,
Sorry for not responding sooner. Thank you for your reply. Great to read of your interest. The range is coming along and hopefully in the future I would like to commission a 7lb howitzer barrel and crew manhandling an artillery piece. In the mean time there are drummers to add to the various units that have been made already.

Its lovely to see more interest occurring for this period whatever your take up is in scale or miniatures used.
For folks who have an interest in collecting miniatures for the period in 28 mm for example, I just wanted to give you a heads-up on where Steve Barber Models is going with the range that I've continued to commissioned over this period of time and will continue to do so unless a change of situation presents itself that I can't anymore. Just an overview of where I'm aiming towards at the moment.
Steve has two cavalry on the books to do. One a Honved trooper from the 13th regiment (Hunyadi county) (now completed and available) and the other a hussar (old regiments) in pelisse. Both will be attacking pose. Drummers to fill-out where needed (German Legion drummer completed). Some additional line officers for both Honved and National Guard plus a staff stand vignette (Honved Officer reading map whilst a National Guard Militia armed with scythe points to the enemy an another cantiniere pouring wine into a beaker.) A couple of characters figures and two Austrian miniatures one a regular infantryman advancing musket 45 degrees (completed) and the other a Croat advancing and musket at 45 degrees..
All of the above takes time and I appreciate all the efforts Steve does. There is no time-line for completing the range.
Just to be clear, these are on my wish list for the above that is not already commissioned by me and finance by me for this range. Anyone else can certainly join in if they wish and commission anything they like. I thank you in advance if you do take up with Steve commissioning some miniatures as others have done from the start to kick off the range. My deepest regards to both Geoff and Ed for doing so.
Thank you for your time.
Best regards,
Helen

Well done Steve, I think you have captured the hussar well.
Thanks, Helen. The hussar fills a missing gap. I shall add this figure to my Hungarian 1848/49 army.

Thanks Hunlion. I'm sure Steve will release him sooner than most. I will be looking at two more arm options for him. One firing pistol and the other with axe.
Cheers,
Helen

Pistol whipping would be interesting. :-)

Very fine sculpting by Steve. Had a look online of uniform photos and it should make for quite a sight fielding a unit of those. Surprised but not the slightest less enthusiastic to hear they carried axes as well.
-
Thanks Gribb. I agree, lovely work from Steve. Nice and slender the axes.

Yes, would be good. I do like the battle scene with a Honved infantryman wearing a captured cavalry helmet.

That. Would make an interesting figure

Yes Geoff, an odd figure in the rank and file.
Perry Miniatures will be releasing their Austrian Cavalry in plastic soon which has at least one helmet without the woolly crest so this might be right for a conversion on the existing Honved infantryman.

Helen

Hello,
Just to say that five new codes for the above have been released.
Thank you.

Hello peeps,
Here is the latest green of a Catholic Priest for the Hungarian Up-Rising. Sculpted by Steve Barber who has done an excellent job based on the illustration provided.
Can be used by both sides and for that matter most other nations.

I think Steve captured this particular imagine well based on the brief given to him by me.
Thanks.

Austrian Infantryman advancing is the next green. This miniature will hopefully be converted into a grenadier, nco and another headdress option.

Well...its been a while! Release of new greens is predicated on the sculptor and his health, Covid and workload, however, I've good news with the latest green of German Legion Drummer. You will notice for the aficionados out there that he carries a Viennese short sword. He can double up as a Viennese Legion Drummer too.

I cannot tell you when he will be available, but suffice to say he will be at some point.
This is the last miniature for the German Legion to be sculpted. That is 11 miniatures all told.
I do have a Viennese Legion Officer playing a violin that is commissioned and I look forward to the miniature being sculpted.
Cheers!

Hot off the sculptor's desk is this Serenzaner for the Hungarian Up-Rising. Can be used for other conflicts too.

Steve has captured the pose and detail in sculpting this miniature figurine to a lovely standard, thanks Steve.
No date as yet when it will be release.
The Viennese/German Legion Drummer is also now available.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the heads up Helen, I missed these somehow!

For those folk who follow this thread you may not be aware that Shipka (aka Geoff Coe) has suddenly passed away. Geoff commissioned a number of miniatures through Steve Barber Models covering esoteric periods over the years. Greek Wars of Independence, SE Asia, Hungarian Revolution, 1st Italian Wars of Independence and the list goes on.
His departure has left a void which will be hard to fill. I will miss our conversations we always had covering these periods.
Rest In Peace Geoff.
God Bless you.

Such sad news to hear.
He leaves behind a legacy in these miniatures. I can't think of a better way for a wargamer to be remembered.
-
So very sorry to hear that!
I had followed many of his conversations in this forum, he had a tremendous knowledge in all these periods...
I will be remembering him with great respect.
-
Really sorry to hear this, his posts on here were always very knowledgeable and always of interest, he will be missed. :(
-
I had a somewhat unexpected chat with him about the Siege of Rome, his enthusiasm was infectious and he knew his Risorgimento! Sympathy & condolences to his family, our loss cannot be compared to theirs.

I just found this out.The hobby has lost another giant.RIP

Interesting. I’ve been looking for Austrian marines circa 1840 and this range might be the way to go.

I've finally painted the Honved Vivandiere that I commissioned through Steve Barber. I can see her being used in a number of settings.
