Hi there!
Just took some photos of my first terrain project: 'The hidden valley of Heruthep'. The project is not finished though. Got stuck when I tried to paint some mummies. I hate painting mummies... :? . Anyway:

My eyes just exploded! That's all I can come up with at the moment. Need to have another looong look at this beauty! :-*
-
Blimey that is better than where I live! Excellent work.Outstanding board. :-*
-
That's amazing!!
-
Nice board - where did you get the statues?
-
The statues are aquarium pieces from Germany, can't remember the manufacturer at the mo. There are others available too - they're very nice.
-
Best table I saw in a while. And I saw a few great looking tables.
Please tell us more about sczenario, rules, work in progress.
Where did you get those statues from. Will there be an inside the Temple board ?
But anyway...Iam pretty speechless because of this awesome board.
Cheers

100% spot on! One of the best tables ever seen!
-
Hagen, why am I not surprised that you make beautiful terrain as well as paint outstanding miniatures? :)
This is undoubtedly one of the best wargame tabletops ever. Simply gorgeous. Well done.
Being picky, I'd say the palm tree foliage looks a little too bright green - think it would have toned in better with the rest of the layout, had the fronds been a little more faded.
But the rockwork, groundwork, and overall effect is simply stunning. Fabulous. :-*

W :o O :o W :o !!!!
Just amazing - love it.
Are the buildings scratch built?

oh my :-*

Absolutely beautiful stuff!

amazing stuff.
Don't know what I like best.
Great idea for a board.
-
That’s a truly amazing gaming board! :-*
-
Your board looks amazing!! I just picked up the large tomb entrance in the back of the booard a couple of months ago...any tips on the colours you used to paint the piece? Thanks in advance!!
Keep up the great work!!! And keep sharing...WOW o_o

Inspiring stuff! 8)
It looks gorgeous and yet practical to play on, aspects which all too often dont go together well.

Thanks very much, guys :)
Nice board - where did you get the statues?
As Sterling Moose already mentioned: it is an aquarium scenery piece (don't know who would put things like that in an aquarium... ???). I bought it at a local pet shop (see also heimtierinsel24.com (http://heimtierinsel24.com/product_info.php?products_id=66)).
Please tell us more about sczenario, rules, work in progress.

I planned to use .45-Adventures as the ruleset (or may be Chaos in Cairo - like these rules, too). As I am not that good at writing scenarios my first idea was to adept a scenario from one of the .45-books. 'Horror of the Golden Calf' (Amazing war stories) comes to mind. Another idea was to use the board as a hollywood film setting in the 20ies. I could use almost any mini here - my gangsters, some imperial roman extras, cowboys, pirates... ;D
An 'inside temple board' is an idea that haunts me for quite a while now. Some kind of pulp-dungeon hack...
Further plans (but not wip yet): at least one further 'central asia' board so that I can exchange the 'Abu Simbel'-module and use the table for bob...
Being picky, I'd say the palm tree foliage looks a little too bright green - think it would have toned in better with the rest of the layout, had the fronds been a little more faded.
You are completey right here. I used some cheap spray paint from the hardware store. The range of available colors was not that great though...
Are the buildings scratch built?
Except for the 'Abu Simbel' ruins the buildings are scratch built.
...any tips on the colours you used to paint the piece?
Some artists acrylics from my local art supply store: Schminke 'Vandykbraun' brushed with Schminke 'Sand' (a german brand afaik). Nothing special but way cheaper than using GW-colors ;)

Hagen

Everything is lol

That board is absolutely stunning. :o

When designing such a board do you consider making the trees and boulders removable?
It seems to me to lessen the versatility of such an awesome board, to have to many fixed pieces. On the other hand the board would probably look less real if they were movable.
I can't stop looking at the large ruin and the ravine leading to it - it looks simply awesome. :-*
-
Bloody hell, that's awesome! :o
And there's nothing really that special about it, it's just done really, really well.
Although I do agree that it could be better if the trees etc were movable, but now I'm just being picky.

Actually the palm trees are 'plug-ins' and removable (note to myself: should consider to file a patent on this ;) ), but the boulders are not. I preferred aesthetics over versatility here...

What they all said. 8)

lovely. Did you spray paint board and buildings?
-
Thanks again, guys :)
... Could we have more pictures?
There are three more detail pics on my site here (http://www.amazing-tintales.de/doku.php?id=gallery:modern:pulp:mummy_1). I shot the board photos in my bedroom. I think my girlfriend would kill me if I do this again to soon... (God, I am such a nerd! Taking wargaming-photos in the bedroom...).
Did you spray paint board and buildings?
I used some brown spray paint from the crafts shop as a primer. After that the board was painted/brushed with acrylics.
Cheers,
Hagen

simply fantastic
what and where did the plane come from

Looks absolutely outstanding! It's certainly going to be an inspiration for when I do some of my own Egyptian Pulp terrain.

what and where did the plane come from
It's a [wiki=Royal_Aircraft_Factory_S.E.5a]Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a[/wiki]. The model is from Revell (1:48):

For further inspiration a highly recommend the paintings of [wiki=David_Roberts_(painter)]David Roberts[/wiki]. Got me a cheap picture book a few years ago: great stuff!

Couldn't say more than hasn't already been said, so only so much:
Marvelous terrain from a master painter and modeller!
:o :-* :o
-
Incredible! Great attention to detail, great colors, very naturalistic.
-
I must say I do not like these sort of posts here.
Showing off pictures of one's terrain...can't you just show something that looks not that good, so I don't need to try and do something like that myself...aargh
Now I have to go and visit an aquarium store and spend money and it's all your fault
;)
(sh...it looks soo coool)
-
I'm a bit late joining the party, but WHOA!!! That board is very very nice!
How did you create the rock faces on either side of the valley? I love the way they look.

I already ordered that piece - and some other Egyptian stuff from the same site.... ;)

It is an absolutely marvellous Masterpiece !
I like the way you´ve modelled the terrain, so it isn´t that flat but has a "multi-layer" (is it the right term ?!) appearance.
But what I really really like is the colour of it all. It´s a very different colour setting than all other desert landscape I´ve ever seen (or made by myself :'( ). It remembers me to all the old cinemascope movies with their extraordinary swelling scenes *sigh*..... :-*
The colours of the rocks and Buildings are different...usually they´re made in a sand- oder brown-like-colour.
I like your way very much.
-
Absolutely stunning! Makes one either want to try much harder, or just give up. I suspect that you could easily use the setting for historical games as well. There has certainly been enough fighting in that part of the world.
-
This is what wargaming is all about. Nice figures and superb terrain. Brilliant.
-
Like everyone else here, I've fallen in love with your terrain :D
The way you've modelled the wadi into the board gives it a wonderfully natural 3D effect. I also agree that the sand shades you used are gorgeous.
If the Prof ever runs a terrain modelling competition, you have to be one of the favourites to win.
Actually, that might be a good idea for a future LAF competition.........

Thanks for the link! I have quite a few books with old photos/pictures from egypt. But I havn't seen this one before (Ouch: listed at 210$ though...)
How did you create the rock faces on either side of the valley? I love the way they look.
I used woodland scenics' rock moulds: link (http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/items.cfm/RockMolds). Good looking rocks at a reasonable price imho (and minimum work btw).
But what I really really like is the colour of it all.
To be true: the outcome of the colors is rather accident than planning. The sand is a little bit to yellow/orange for my taste. But great that you like it :D

Hagen

I recommend this book - It shows many buildings as ruins and also as reconstructed images. Ideal for making up those documents that adventurers need to find describing the buildings/temples/hieroglyphs as they were.

I picked a copy up from Amazon for £20, so it can be bought at a realistic price

Actually having been to Egypt the sand colour is about right.
