Title: Figures painted 2022
Post by: Gunner Dunbar on May 30, 2016, 01:54:11 AM
Hi guys

Finished these 2 15mm Power armour miniatures for a customer, just need to base them now, they are sold under the label "PanzerAnzug "WWII" German Power Armour for 15mm" on Shapeways http://www.shapeways.com/product/P4KJEEYVG/panzeranzug-quot-wwii-quot-german-power-armour-for-15mm (http://www.shapeways.com/product/P4KJEEYVG/panzeranzug-quot-wwii-quot-german-power-armour-for-15mm) , the one on the right is Frosted ultra detail and is now the only option available, it doesn't have that grainy look like the one on the right, and is quite detailed, the bottom pic has a comparison with a 15mm.co.uk figure and a Khurasan power armour, these certainly fit the bill if you are after power armour with a certain look.

You've made it look like Zimmerit so not a waste of time.

Yes, I immediately thought a "version of high tech Zimmerit" coating from the picture.

Folks on TMP also thought 'zimmerit'. The designer apparently took the lesser option off the store until there was such a swell of admiration.

Hi guys

A while ago I made this small 15mm Colonial marine sci fi force which I later sold off, the new owner has commissioned me to expand the army, I will be doing so in parts, this next part will be the heavy weapons and trikes, I don't usually post WIP shots of commission, but I have an affinity with 15mm sci fi and this force in particular as the original was a labour of love.
I had an extra stand when I cut these so thought I would add an objective marker, I had this cool little birthday candle holder that I had seen something in, and had thrown it in my parts box, I think it will paint up nice as a drop beacon.
The trike riders are just sitting lose, thinking of doing a couple of conversions on those, head and upper body swaps, and the sixby has a gunner that needs to be attached to the rear.

Those shapeways models are loosely based on the SF3D/ Maschinen Krieger model line.

A Japanese modeler int he 80's started doing kits from an alt-universe version of WW2 that took place in the far future during an age of interplanetary travel and he took pains to do dioramas that resembled Tamiya and Revell WW2 model dioramas and art. He eventually got a section of Hobby Japan and a model line of his atomic diesel punk suits and machines. It's really cool but oddball stuff. Sort of Gerry Anderson meets late European front realism meets crazy engineering ideas. I've never seen it in 15 mm before though there were some Gashapon collector's figures that were maybe 1/35 or so which some people (the Colonel Marble people  think) used as mecha for 15mm troopers.

I have some of the S.A.F.S. 1/35 figures and they work very well for 28/32mm but don't fit all that well with 15mm.  The shapeways prints are probably the way to go for 15mm (and probably cheaper too).

Hi guys

Finished the heavy weapons, trikes and 6 wheeler on commission for the 15mm colonial marines, figures are GZG NAC, did an upper torso swap with 2 of the trike riders, the one pointing and the one with the weapon in his hand, all comments welcome.

Hi guys

After a 4-5 year break from 15mm sci fi, (doing other genres) I am back, I completed a colonial marine based army a few years ago, but ended up selling it, so building another, but more closely resembling the movie type, in looks anyways, will be using a more complicated vehicle camo then the plane green in the movie. Didn't really do much planning with this, just grabbed a heap of figures out of the stash and started building, the infantry are all from Khurasans federal defence force exterminators, navy seals, and post apoc power armour, the 4 larger power armour suits are Khurasan corsair suits, the 6 robots are from Rebel minis.

Hi guys

I have had a long time 15mm Mecha project simmering, buying Mechs cheap when they come up, after getting some inspiration from several 15mm 3D print mecha threads, I have decided to start mine, so I went trawling through my stash for my mechs, I have built one set of small mechs years ago (pics added) as well as these unmade mechs, and I have 3 more plastic kits on their way from HLJ and 8 Mechwarrior clix of ebay.

The Silver/Maroon mechs will be enlarged, I will try to get these from small to medium, the baggies at the bottom have some small Rebel minis and medium Khurasan mechs, probably leave them this size, the heavy gear stuff is more large battle suit size, but they will be in the project.

The 4 coloured mechs on the left were bought at a bargain shop for $2.50 for the set, they are rubbish as is, but I will heavily convert a couple, and use a couple as downed mechs.

The boxed plastic kits will be converted to look more mechwarrior than Gundum, I will replace hand held weapons with weapons integrated into the arms, maybe change the heads, we will see.

I made the Japanese mercs before really planning this project, so may carry this theme into 1 force (with Khurasans man size robots as ground support), do another force with a unified paint scheme (thinking of expanding my colonial marines into gthis force), and 2 alien forces, 1 Avian (Harook) might get some of Khurasans Hauk figures and do a unified Avian force, the other CMGs Kaamados dominion.

Post by: Gunner Dunbar on August 10, 2019, 07:12:54 AM
Hi guys

Started on my first Mech, going to try and make a medium mech out of these 2 small ones, they are both about 50mm tall, the final height is 73mm still need to do a lot of work on this, the gun arm will get a large mag on the back of the elbow counterweighting the barrels, not sure the gun is right for this sized mech, should I mount something smaller? I will add some armour and detail to the legs, the back of the mech will have a bit of detail added so its not so flat, going to add 1 or 2 missile pods to either the shoulders or chest, and round the nose of.

Should I persist with this design? any thoughts on improving it.

I like the conversion work. I think the gun looks fine for the torso (maybe a little too big), but it's the thin legs that makes me think the gun is too big.

Nice design though.

Hello Gunner,
Looks interesting.
Here are my thoughts.

Knee joint looks a bit strange, did you try reversing it? To see how it would look?

Gun is too long, i would shorten it or use a smaller one.

Cockpit looks nice but obviously needs more work to make it convincing.Perhaps build a larger hump to the back or loose the rear pane.

Keep it up, you  sure came back with a bang😉

Btw who makes those 2 mechs you cut up?

Hi Von - legs will be getting armour, so will bulk out a lot.
Hi Z - yeah, a lot of work to go, I will finish the body before deciding on the gun length, it may look ok after the rest is done, the knees will be getting armour, so may look better.

An update, some parts are bluetaced on, need to detail the gun mag, fill the waste out, mount the missile pod, I want to do some detail around the chest area, add knee armour, maybe groin armour, and thinking of some hanging plate armour around the waste, can anyone think of anything else I should change or add? all feedback appreciated.

Those are some great GS shapes you did there gunner.

Knees are much better now. I like how the nose came out also. The large ammo hopper on the back would offset the barrel length but I still think that the barrel is long, perhaps it can be shortened at the joint ?

Overall great mini.
Good work 👍👍👍

Hi guys

My 2nd 15mm Mech WIP, I don't like the design of this Mech, so will be heavily converting it, it will become an Atlas like assault Mech, its an impressive 110mm, these are the changes I will make
1) Cut down the horn like shapes on the shoulder to the same height as the head and make them into missile pods.
2) get rid of the turret in the body, and fill in the space.
3) move the head forward to the centre of the body.
4) drop the shoulder balls to level with or lower than the head.
5) shorten the arms to avoid a gorilla knuckle dragging look.
6) Not sure here, either have 2 fists and a waist or chest mounted gun, or replace 1 of the fists with a gun, what do you think?
7) add dust covers to all the joints
8) add knee armour and various details.

I wont be painting them until I have at least a lance worth.

I bit of work done on the conversions, I've added a before pic to show what has been done, have decided to give him 2 fists and do a waist mounted gun like the Atlas, I'll be adding more rockets to the chest area, and another set of twin guns on the left forearm, as well as beefing out the fists and adding more details here and there, what do you think so far?

Hi guys

More work done on this assault mech, sorry about the pics, detail is hard to see with white and a flash, added reactive armour, missiles to the chest, a waist missile pod, hip armour, working on a waist gun, and beefed up the hands, pretty happy so far, anything you can see that needs adding?

Hi guys

I weas going to make this a heavy Mech, but its a lot more solid than I thought, so it maybe another assault Mech, as you can see from the comparison shot, its even bigger than my last Mech, this one came with a head to be mounted in the middle of the chest and a turret located were I now have the head, I'm almost happy with it as it is now, may just add a little armour, weapons and some little details, what do you think?

Hi Matt - eyeing off Gruntz

Hi guys

My first 15mm fully scratch built mech, its still a work in progress, made my first an urbanmech, because of the simple design, and I'm testing a new medium, (intend to make 8-10), 15mm figure for scale, I usually use kneadatite, procreate or miliput for sculpting, but have been eyeing off polymer clay for a long time, finally thought I would give it a go for this project, its about half the cost of miliput and a fifth of kneadatite, this sculpt cost me $3 Australian to complete.

Polymer clay has some interesting properties, you can pick it up and handle it without leaving finger prints or distorting the shape, and you can take your time sculpting as it stays soft until cured in an oven.

Its not perfect, but I have limited funds at the moment, I'm hoping to get a resin 3D printer for Christmas.

Hi guys

Lonely little 15mm infantry figure out front for scale.

So my Mechwarrior clix have arrived, here is a group shot with some of the other Mech I have built so far, so here is the problem, I think they are all (the clix) about 30% to small, my 2 largest mechs I'm classing as 100 tonne assaulty mechs, the mech sitting between them is a  clixs 100 tonne assault mech, I won't be able to get it to the same size, but I might be able to get another 30mm height and some more bulk out of it, and the same with the others, I will make some strategic cuts around ankles, knees and waist and place some spacers in, then bulk them out with extra armour.

I should have about 48 mechs with these and my un built mechs in the collection now, so will build 4 factions with 12 mech and 15mm supporting infantry and vehicles, I will do a Davion, Jade falcon, Mercs, and a 4th undecided faction.

Hi guys

I'm always looking for cheap 15mm Mechs, I saw someone show off 1 of these on facebook that they bought from a store, and they looked promising, so I bought a set off ebay, they cost me $30 Australian with postage for the set of 6, I will need to play around with the designs, reduce the joint gap between the shoulder, change the shape of some of their shoulders, maybe give some of them arm mounted weapons instead of hand held, set them in good poses and re paint.
Its a bit hard to see, but there is a 15mm figure in front for size.
The arms and legs are vinyl, the body is hard plastic and the black pieces (weapons, hands and feet) are rubber, I think they should take paint OK, not sure about the rubber parts, will test them first.
My favourite is the green one, he has a pretty good head and I like the heavy weapons.
I like a bargain and a good challenge, these fit the bill well.

Hi guys

Started work on the first of the cheap mechs, the green one as he is my favourite of the 6, he is turning out really nice, excellent for $5 Australian, I will be painting it black legs and red body, House Kurita colours, the hover car is a converted cheap discount store toy, the rubber parts are not tacky after undercoating, looks like it will paint up nicely thoughts?

For the latest mech screams shades of grey.

How about a zenithal light grey or white spray can paint, then paint free hand rectangles of grey to black shades.

It is perfect for 15mm ...

I think they're Italian made.
I found some at a car boot sale , they're perfect for 15mm, whether scifi or fantasy & some off their designs are excellent.

The  figure with the unpainted mechs is from vanguard miniatures, the figures on the base are converted command decision WWII German casualties.

Hi guys

A painting progression on the cheap mech, started with a grey undercoat, then black wash, and white dry brush for pre shading, I bought a contrast red to test how they are, and thought I would use this project for the test, applied the contrast red, and then regular acrylic black, the contrast would suit those wanting to paint large numbers quickly, but I wasn't happy with the results, so have gone over it with acrylic red (Vallejo), next up I'll do a black pin wash, then highlights, then add some details, then weathering. I think I need to add more detail to the base, rubbish and debris, thoughts?

Hi guys

These 6 Mechs are ready for paint (just need to add grit to a couple bases) I want to start painting these tomorrow, but haven't decided on a scheme yet, so will be looking at some schemes tonight, thinking either Davion Guard or Kurita, so either red/white/blue, a dark red, or maybe olive drab.

Hi guys

These are not finished, just a base paint and a wash so fare, will go over the camo colours again, then highlight, paint details, and weathering, a couple of the vehicles are yet to receive their first wash. Ignore the big red dude in the back, he is not part of this force, may add another 3 mechs to have a full lance.

Hi guys

I bought a Creality LD-002R 3D resin printer 2 months ago, it has become a whole new hobby onto itself, and wow, this thing prints very nice minis. Its very easy to get carried away and start printing all sorts of stuff, so I am limiting myself the following projects, and here are pics of the last 2 months prints.

1) 15mm 40K project, I started this 10 years ago, and got quite a lot done, but as everyting was converted it was very labour intensive, so eventually tapered off.
2) 1/72 Post apoc, this will cover everything in this genre, zombies, gaslands, fall out, anything wastland warrior
3) 1/72 WWII vehicles and terrian.

These are the prints 15mm Blood Angels, working on the 1st (Terminator/Death company), 2nd (regular) and 10th (scout) companies along with some Titans in support.

Hi guys

I have started the painting process on my 15mm Blood Angels, as its a huge army, (pictured is about half of what I need to paint) I wanted a quick but effective way to paint them, so I am using contrast paints for the red, over a black undercoat thats been drybrushed white, then highlighted red, this is only the first 3 base colours done, red, black and brown, only the red is highlighted, will go onto paint detail, finish the highlighting then weathering.

Title: Re: 15mm Blood Angels base coat done
Post by: Gunner Dunbar on January 05, 2021, 07:36:22 PM
I use a creality ld-002R, it depends on how much I can fit on the print bed, the marines themselves, I can fit anywhere from 10-18 on a print, and they take about 3 hrs, I can print 3 Rhinos in about 6 hours, but 1 landraider takes about 7 hrs, but I can fit a few marines on the print bed as well.

 Hi guys

I will now break down my 15mm BA's into small manageable batches, the first batch will be some Rhinos, I've used a mix of old and new Rhino designs, to represent a force that has replaced vehicles due to attrition, I printed all these vehicles except for the the No.1 vehicle with the red cargo doors and very visible print lines, that was bought of a provider on FB before I bought my printer.

I have added decals and done a pin wash, next I will highlight the black areas, paint some details, then start weathering.

15mm seems a good scale for this, as 6mm epic is a bit small for details, and full sized models are just huge!

Hi guys

These are not finished.

Quick update on the 15mm BA project, matched up a rhino with each squad, squad markings (need to be finished) on the right knee and right fender of the corresponding rhino, theres only 5 tactical squads here, I'll be able to field all 10, 2nd company squads (plus a lot more) when finished, have started chipping on the rhinos, will finish that, finish the squad markings, then start the weathering.

Yeah, it’s an interesting scale, I think almost perfect, good for storage, can get heaps on the table, big enough for character, but not for the faint hearted, as you have to make/convert/print/sculpt everything, I used to convert all my figs and models, printing makes it ridiculously easy, but you need to do a lot of printing.

Blast and damn... I didn't have an interest in doing Marines again before stumbling innocently into this thread. And with an Elegoo Mars 2 soon to be mine... Blast and damn!!!

Now visions of multiple-company Heresy forces dance behind my eyelids... or maybe the Badab War. All of it.  o_o

Gunner, am I right thinking most of the Marines are Moonjam's "6-8mm Galactic Crusaders" on Thingiverse, suitably re-scaled?

Hi guys

I haven't done any 28mm Sci-Fi since I stopped 28mm 40K in the early 2000s, instead I switched to 15mm 40K and Sci-fi in general, but seeing a lot of Stargrave posts has peaked my interest again, so I did a little search through my stash, along with a bunch of 40k stuff, that I may use, I found a box of Dreamforge Games Eisenkern power armour, some starwars droids, some galeforce 9 colonial marines and Aliens and this bunch of figs that I painted up in the 90s for use in Stargrunt.

I bought the none GW figs from a trade stall at a gaming convention in the 90's, does anyone know what they are, there 2 types, but they look like they are from the same manufacturer.

I'm unsure about the paint job, whether to improve the paint job they have or strip them and start again,  I'm leaning toward adding some greens to the camo, and using the brown on the padded armour as a base for Khaki grey, what do you think?

 Hi guys

Been working on some 28-32mm Sci-Fi skirmish figures lately, I bought a box of Dream Forge Eisenkern Stormtroopers 10-12 years ago, but TBH I am sort of over the space Nazi theme, so they sat in the stash, with all the new Stargrave stuff being shown off, I thought I would try and do something with them, I dropped the Nazi style helmets and weapons and printed of some scaled down 40K style heads/helmets (ones that were the least Space marine looking), weapons and holsters, and some starcraft style heavy power armour, there were 4, but the upper body on one failed to print, might print another 3 of those off, pretty happy how they turned out, they have a special forces vibe happening. I still need to add some green stuff details, and clean them up a bit before undercoating.

I've had a Futurama based space ship crew project bouncing around my noggin for a dozen years now, I had planned on sculpting the characters the old fashioned way, first in 15mm then 28mm, but never got around to it, so I thought it was about time to get the project rolling, and use the 3D printer, I downloaded the characters, sliced their heads off in 3D builder and sized them to 28mm, I started with using them on the Stargrave plastic sets, but wasn't happy with the chunkiness of the bodies for Amy and Leela, so I made a second one of each, which I think came out better, I'm pretty happy with Fry, Farnsworth and Kiff (although, he is a little tall and chunky) I still have Zapp, Bender and Dr Z to do, I've got a cracking Zapp conversion in the works, the other 2 will be very different to the original characters, I'll be doing Dr Z in combat mode, with his frills extended, and will be making him a hulking beast, much bigger than man size, Bender will be getting a combat robot body, I also need to find a Hermes head to add him to the crew, not sure if I'll do a Nibbler, what do you think?

Love the Planet Express crew project. I was expecting to see something more classic but like your take. Can't wait to see a giant enraged Zoidberg, why not?

Hi guys

So I did some more work on this crew, adding Zapp, Dr Z, Bender, Fatboy and Roberto, now I'm thinking I have to add Destructor, I've modeled Zapp escaping a fight by pretending he is wounded, Dr Zoidberg is only at the concept stage, I'm going to remove a lot of detail from the body, and add my own, ignore the hole in his head, seems my LCD screen has some dead spots, will need to change it, I'll fix the hole with GS, I will need to add a weapon to fatboy and Roberto, and the whole crew needs cleaning and small details added, what do you think?

I like Zoidberg. He has a good enraged barbarian feel to him.

As for Roberto, I'd keep him armed with only a knife.

I also think it would be a shame not to have the Crushinator. Character AND vehicle all rolled into one.

I’ll be giving Roberto a knife, hmmm, the crushinator, hadn’t thought about that, they are going to need wheels after all, and a ship of course.

Hi guys

Have put the the basic camo pattern down, still need to add washes, highlights and paint the details, pretty happy with this urban camo, want these guys to look like they are battle hardened, and on campaign, the skin is only the basecoat. The last pic has 1st mate Fry for scale comparison.

Hi guys

Have done the washes (pin wash with Nuln the agrax) and highlights on the armour, really like how these guys are turning out, next up, painting details and skin, bodies are Wargames foundry plastic Eisekern, with 3D printed weapons and heads that were rescaled to fit the bodies, the larger power armour was all 3D printed.

 Hi guys

Have started a Deadwood based Stargrave crew, using the dead mans hand plastic and arms from the Stargrave boxes, I have Al Swearengin, Seth Bullock, Sol Star, Dan Dority, and Dec Cochran so far, I still need to do Calamity Jane, Alma Garret, Trixi, Mr Wu, and Reverend HW Smith.
I have also added some details to my Dr Zoidberg Fatboy and Roberto Futurama characters

Hi guys

My 3D printer has sat quiet for about a year, I’ve done a lot of the printing I had wanted to do, and have piles of resin to paint, but I have always wanted to add nice “correct” mechs to my 15mm battletech project, so I powered her up, unfortunately I had stopped printing with a burnt out LCD, so my first print, a Raven failed, I’ll use that for a downed mech terrain piece, but my next 2 have turned out OK, a Jenner and locust.

So the plan is to do all my light mechs, then medium, heavy and assault, ultimately I’d like 1 of every type I can get an stl of, that will take years, so my first goal is to do the Jenner, Locust, raven, assassin, flea, Urbie, firestater, Panther, spider, commando and a Vulcan, then I’ll move to mediums, yes only inner sphere to start with.

Pictured with 6mm mechs and some 15mm infantry for scale, I increased the file by %300, because most of my 15mm stuff is actually 18mm.

I’ll be painting 3 groups, Kurita, Steiner and a merc company with individual paint schemes based on the MW5 hero mech schemes, when I get to clan mechs, jade falcon, if I can get 4 lights, mediums and heavies for each force I’d be pretty happy with that.

Hi guys

Calling this batch done, the first “test” mech for 1 of my merc companies, the Dune Bar Hussars, all 3D printed, I’ve decided not to print anymore in this scale, and have bought nearly the complete line of catalyst mechs, saving the printing for my 15mm Mech project.

I've just started looking at printing some BT stuff at 15mm just for painting (got too many 6/8mm for gaming already to switch) and there's so many files out there now!  Looking forward to seeing more :)

 Hi guys

Calling this batch of 6mm mechs done for my Kurita force, will be adding to this force, but will play around with a few red/black/white/buff colour schemes for variety.

Received my first Iron Winds metal mechs today, bought 6 inner sphere mechs, picked them by looks mostly, my knowledge of BT mechs is mostly focused around the BT PC game and MW5, so apart from the Atlas I don’t know much about the others, I’ve got most of the plastic catalyst games mechs, these will expand the collection nicely.

Have also printed some more 15mm (1/100 scale) BT mechs, the last 4 I printed (the unbased ones) have had some really bad print lines, couldn’t work out why, but finally realised I had moved my printer to another table, which wasn’t stable, will see if moving it back will improve the next print, I’ll get the dremel out and sand down the print lines, then add any detail I sand off.

Post by: Gunner Dunbar on September 14, 2022, 10:11:28 AM
 Hi guys

Finished the first 3 6mm mechs for my 2nd mercenary company, this company is based on one of my MW5 merc companies with multi coloured mechs, some have hero mech colour schemes, I changed others, going for a jungle theme with the basing, the other merc company has the purple/sand colour scheme, hoping MW5 players may recognise a couple of the colour schemes in the company when it’s finished, if I’ve done them justice, the Battlemaster has a hero scheme, the thunderbolt and nightstar have my own schemes.

Very cool to have miniatures painted in the scheme of your virtual mechs!  8)

I'm more of an Unseen guy myself, but you've certainly made these models look good.

Lovely work as usual, Gunner.
Nice idea also, you can see what they should look like before painting.
15mm ? that would make them 40 ? 50mm ? high.

Thanks for sharing

These mechs are 6mm, yes about 50mm, my 15mm mechs are 100mm+

100?  :o :o
I did not realise they are huge!! But considering the height of an Atlas, that would make sense.

I try to keep my mechs ( for 15mm & not BattleTech ) around 40 to 50 mm high.

I have had a fledling BT project in 15mm in the works for years and I've specifically used as many references in the books as I could, to make the mechs the correct height.

This mean my Warhammer and Rifleman are approximately 10 meters tall and this turns into a neat 10cm at 1:100/15mm. they were the baseline and all other mechs have been scaled accordingly. An Atlas would be about 12cm and a WIP Wolverine is about 8 cm high.

Mind: this project is so old I still used very obscure Japanese plastic model kits for my (unseen) mechs and enlarged them where necessary. Nowadays with 3D printers, it's much, much easier to up- or downscale models... ::)

I’m a little lazier, most of my 15mm figs are actually 18mm, so I use 18mm as my standard, I just print 6mm mechs at 300%

Hi guys

Have added a shadow hawk and thunderbolt to my 15mm BT project, a fair few print lines in these prints, think I may have something lose in my z axis, decided to start work on the Shadow Hawk, I really liked that mech in the BT PC game (not so much in MW5) will be doing her as a Kurita ride, had to give it a bit of a sanding to lessen the print lines, and replace the antenna and auto cannon, which didn’t print properly, and fixed some areas with green stuff, then sprayed black with a zenithal over sprayin grey, and a white dry brush

I have had a soft spot for the Shadow Hawk ever since the first two instalments of the Gray Death trilogy (until the hero upgraded to a friggin' Marauder 8) ).

The Thunderbolt is a real cool mech too btw...

Hi guys

I picked these 3 Buzz light year ships up, pic with a 15mm figure for scale, I’m trying to decide how to finish them, if they all had different colours I’d probably treat them the same, trying to preserve the colours and weather them, but as they are the same/similar I’m thinking of preserving 1(probably No. 7) and re painting the other 2, because the grey colours are bare plastic with the blue/orange areas being paint, how would you go about detailing and weathering?  My list of options, any other ideas?

1- seal the ship with a spray varnish, then add washes etc and go from there?

2 - leave bare, use enamels or oils for washes, then seal and proceed?

Those are a cool find.

I would "rescale" the cockpit to better match 15mm.  For example, cover all except the front part of the canopy for on the left one.

You can also cover all the glass and make it a drone fighter.

I am feeling a total paint rework to match you BT theme.  Beige and Red highlights.  Maybe all red?

have fun.

Hi guys

Have given No. 7 a black oil pin wash, filled in the canopy, and an acrylic clear matte sealer, already looking much better, the bare plastic look isn’t as bad, next I’ll do some decals, highlights, slight battle damage and ware n tare, then maybe another wash and sealer. The other 2 already look much better with a grey undercoat, the middle one may end up a light pastel green with yellow highlights, the other will be either cream or light grey with red highlights. I also picked up a larger buzz light year ship that I’ll paint next, it could be used for 28mm or 15mm, pictured with a 28mm fig for reference.

Gosh those really are some great ships out of the box. Though the white and blue trio make me think they should combine somehow XD

Gunner

Those look amazing, specially after your touch ups!  I really like that number 07 fighter.  Under what name or title is it being sold?  Is it part of a specific collection or range?

Thanks

Dan

Those are great! I had to go and put them on my wish list! Those are going to look great on a tarmac at some spaceport.

Dan - and others interested here in the states,

Those Buzz Lightyear ships are from Disney and I found a couple at local Wal-Marts, I believe there are four total ships in the line then a fifth pack that might be useful as a terrain item - still pondering.  Will probably get the other two ships.  Found mine while searching for Star Wars items, found the great Hot Wheels range as well as the larger Squadron models that I think are too big for 15 mm.  Each ship comes with a figure.  I posted a picture in my own Star Wars 15 mm thread of the figures but here it is;

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimh-wbHCBvxS90JvqxPb8hQkhpFyFyDzQpzpKDsssGJdRD1fR_n1MUCFzamQjdLWPtqSqbAIS7IIyYIUBdOGyZU7rtx7Yzv8SjFIYsTz8o_CmnM_mo8wJ3YPD9f3ZC1moJiabXBTK_IQ140dA5__MjBDSqmDzRudUJ4KSqrhKuX6w1AUgr3MzWbyQ/w400-h300/IMG_0945.jpg)

The unpainted 15 mm figure is a Rebel Minis Mech Pilot.

I plan to use mine as battlefield debris so will really "mess them up" when I get to work on them.  Heck, I might get double bang for my buck and chop them each into at least halves to get more downed ships in the battlefield.

I just found this image of the range:

So far, I have the 07 and the 15 models.

Thoughts on the rockets as 15 mm terrain?

Haven’t got the 15 yet, looks nice though.

Aren't those more like drop pods instead of rockets though? They would certainly not look out of place on any scifi battlefield, be it as drop pods, pylons, energy nodes or what have you...

Daeothar,

You are probably right.  Still haven't decided about getting them, they are pretty big for 15 mm.  Will see - have to revisit a Wal-Mart to return a few items so hope they have one I can look at again.

From the picture they would be very good 40k drop pod transporting Space Marines, support guns and tanks onto the battlefields of the 41st millennium.

I ended up buying them - and they were pods - but I think I will be using them rather differently, as some sort of station, at least for one, I might use the other as a fuel storage tank.  Below is a photo of them folded out and laid down "upside" down:

Nice.

They could be useful in a number of ways. The parts alone are probably worth the punt I reckon...  8)

Have given No. 7 a black oil pin wash, filled in the canopy...

I have some on the way. What did you use to fill the canopy on 07? Looks like you have just masked off and undercoated the other two. Any reason for the change in approach. I didn’t order 02. The stern I very much like, but I didn’t think the cockpit lent itself as well as the others. Interested to see your finished.

I painted the canopy on 07 with gesso, then light grey, I want different colour schemes on the other 2.

Thanks. Looks effective so I will give that a go. Such a great source of models for 15mm. Thanks for highlighting them.

Something I have just noticed; there are other hyperspeed series models too! But you don’t seem to be able to get XL’s 03, 09, 12 & 14 in the UK. What a scam!

Hi guys

I have seen a lot of FB posts with painters showing their completed miniatures of 2022, so I start wondering how many miniatures I painted in 2022, here is 1 picture from each batch of figures completed in 2022 that I could find, most are commissions, the unpainted batch of vehicles isn’t painted, but was built in 22, and will be painted over my 3 weeks holidays, there are 41 pics all up on my blog, a mix of scale, genres and eras.
