I'm trying to find a high quality vendor for generic fantasy models but it seems almost impossible. I've been looking for hours and can't find anything I like. I'm just interested in putting together small bands of varying warband types to flesh out my Fantasy collection and get away from painting so many humans etc., probably to use for SoBaH.
I am struggling to find anything to my liking. I want to see more stuff like Otherworld miniatures - that old school feel classic generic fantasy style. Their prices are outrageous though so I'm still looking around.
Essentially I'm just trying to find stuff reminiscent of GW models from like the late 90s -
Wood Elves, Goblins, maybe Skaven and Lizardmen, Beastmen, cool looking miniatures.
I guess theres no magic one-stop shop to find all these in high quality metal is there? I've been browsing through the master list stickied at the top of the forum without much luck.
I think I'm just jealous of when I see the old-timers posting up awesome 80s and 90s styled pewter miniatures on the forum :-[
Just throwing it out there to see if anyone knows what I'm looking for, as vague and elusive as it might be haha :)

Reaper has a lot of good ones
-
Reaper metals are expensive, but the Bones range are cheap and paint up well. Old style miniatures - Black Tree Design, Mirliton, Viking Forge.
-
I'll echo the blacktree, cheap and good (postage sometimes takes a while)
Otherworld do some nice generic miniatures D&D themed. They are pricey though, more so than Reaper. Reaper are really good too though.

Ral Partha Europe - Plenty of old school goodness there.
-
Check Midlam Miniatures, pure old-schoolness too.

:D Old Timers eh ;D I don't think I'm that old, but I do have lots of 1980's Citadel models.....
That being said, you can still get vintage 80's and some later 90's sculpts off ebay for good prices. Some ranges were in circulation for years and sold millions world wide, so are not considered rare, for example, you can get 80's Dark Elves for 2 quid a model off ebay, same can be said for other mass produced armies from that era like Orcs and Goblins. ebay price's get crazy when you start looking at the harder to get models (Mikael Jacsen for example) or in demand ones, such as Chaos Dwarfs, C21 Undead Cavalry, Bretts etc
It just depends on what you want to pay? Mirliton does some very nice generic European medieval type models, great for an Empire or allied contingent. Also Perry Miniatures WotR or Agincourt ranges would fit well in 'human' inspired fantasy armies. If you want to pay a bit more for some 'character' models, then Redbox Games do some great pieces as do Otherworld Miniatures.
Happy hunting ;)

For USA sources there is the Ral Partha division of Iron Wind Metals. Especially after two successful KS's and more in the works.
-
Rafm definitely deserves a mention as well. They've got a huge range of fantasy and horror figs from the 80s still in production.
-
Ral Partha Europe - Plenty of old school goodness there.
I agree.
I've painted some LINK (http://www.orctrader.co.uk/RalPartha.html)
And as I recall they were very good casts too.

I have a look through these threads http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=39902.0 for quality fantasy
and http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=27037.0 for cheap ones. Both have a compiled list at the beginning. Some of those cheap ones are quality too

Ral partha (europe) or iron wind metals.
Hasslefree miniatures (though again not cheap).
RAFM have some if I recall correctly.

The good old classic generic nice sculpted Grenadier models?

Ciao

Grenadier gets my vote too. Well, the ones sculpted by Mr. Copplestone do.
FWIW, Otherworld get more affordable if you sign up for one of their vouchers.

There are quite a lot of Orcs and Goblins in the 90s citadel style, from Blacktree, Heartbreaker (through ral patha) and the excellent Crooked claw miniatures.
For humans, some of the Foundry feudal range and the Hundred years war one, would do for the Empire as would Claymore Castings Hundred Years war French by Matthew Bickley.
TAG a range of old school dwarves, with the right vibe and Hasslefree have possibly suitable bits and pieces in their various ranges.
The market could do with a fairly extensive notChaos Warrior range though...

Take a look at Goodman Games, Dungeon crawl classics.
They have that old school look to them, at least in my mind.
