Lovely large "clump" of badmash, I can hear the Sergeant shouting now "To your front, 100 yards rapid, FIRE"  lol.
Did I hear that Iron Duke are bringing Badmash out in the not to distant future, I imagine the more of these you have the better.

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys, the majority of my native forces I started collecting from Mutineer before the release of the Iron Duke range and painted up myself.Jeff965 has painted the majority of the British opposition for me  so far, which he has already posted on the forum.I'm basing the size of my units to use in the forthcoming Tmwwbk rules due out in August/September this year. :)

In the second photo of your finely painted, rapacious cannon fodder - really like the paved ground, very nicely done.  What was it's original purpose, if I may ask?

Hi Nick,
Well,Jeff's painted thirty Brits and I've painted twenty Scots, twenty Sikhs and a gun and crew for the British.
For the Mutineers I have Thirty regular sepoys, painted by Jeff,Sixteen irregular matchlock men,Sixteen badmash and twenty sepoy in native dress.Six rifle company troops, and assorted big men.
A gun and crew for the rebels and twelve sepoy troopers along with some baggage animals and carts, phew !
Sounds more than it looks though  :)

Title: Re: Mutiny miniatures,18/05/2017.
Post by: Arthur on May 21, 2017, 09:10:04 PM
If I were Willie, I'd put those conversions on hold in the light of what Mike Snook recently posted on the Iron Duke FB page :

Quote
A few customers have asked about loyal sepoy codes. Initially I've responded by saying that with the exception of the loyal residues of three regiments, totalling about 700 men, who formed part of the besieged garrison at Lucknow, the BNI played no part to speak of on the British side. There were regiments of MNI involved in Sir Hugh Rose's Central India campaign of 1858, but they still used shakos, and these were of a different kind to the lately abolished BNI shako. As I've said in the past we won't be doing the Central India campaign, so no requirement for MNI. Thinking about it further, however, loyal BNI sepoys would be required for the Battle of Chinhat, the disastrous engagement which obliged Sir Henry Lawrence to fall back on Lucknow and fort up permanently. Since we've already stripped all the tulwars and skull caps etc off the uniformed mutineers to make the Gwalior Contingent code in shakoes, it will be easy enough to head swap the Gwaliors' shakoes with covered BNI forage caps to produce some loyal BNI sepoys. We won't do very many, enough for a unit, or alternatively a number of Sharp practice groups of 8, but leave it with me for a bit and we'll get a couple of loyal codes out - possibly 4 sepoys attacking and 4 command, or possibly a code of 8 sepoys attacking and a code of 4 command. All in long trousers, no tulwars, forage caps all round.

Then again, I'm pretty sure Willie's seen the post above as he obviously is one of said 'few customers' (if not all of them  lol )

WillieB,how are those Sepoy shako conversions coming along, ready to share pics yet? :)

Pathetic , impatient Willie did it again.  Ironic thing is that by the time I get to painting them Mike/Paul will probably have their much superior versions available.
Simple conversions in fact for anyone so inclined ( I like to think I'm not the only fool in this neck of the woods :))
The Gwalior figures simply have their shakos removed and replaced with suitable Kilmarnock caps.  That gives you a small batch of loyal sepoys.
For a few others - poses I absolutely wanted- I cut away the dhoti and replaced it with tattered trousers. One figure -the loading one- simply had it's tulwar removed and got a Kilmarnock instead of a skull cap.
Of course the now spare shakos went on the cannibalised figures.

Mutineer Miniatures native gun crew in uniform jackets(useful for both sides) and four Pathans from Artisan miniatures who will be appearing as badmash musket men, classed as Wallah's in SP2.

1.Initial British positions, irregular cavalry yet to arrive on board.
2.Close up of the baggage guard, classed as Train guard,Militia,in SP2.
3.Badmash defend a village,classed as Wallah's in SP2.
4.British clear village at the point of the bayonet.
5.Irregular cavalry charge to their demise against Regular sepoys in formation.

A few more pics of last night's game.
1.Another village full of Badmash, this unit successfully held the village against a unit of Sikhs.
2.The British guns, devastatingly destroyed the rebel cavalry and rebel gun and supported the British attack, seen going in,against the village on the rebel right flank.
3.Regular Sepoys, all Iron Duke minis, rush to aid their countrymen, the attack was stalled by more effective British Artillery fire.
In the end a British victory,10 vp's to 2vp's.
Thanks for looking in.
Cheers
Keith.

I'm afraid I haven't really been keeping up with developments in figures for the Mutiny. If I may ask, who makes those baggage guard figures?  Right bunch of ne'er-do-wells, they look. Reckon I might be able to find a use for them.

They're sometimes a bit of a luxury, but casualty figures do add something to the table. They can be great indicators of the ebb and flow of a battle. Nice work.

I agree about casualty figures. They do help tell the ebb and flow of the story. It’s just hard to resist putting them at the bottom of the To Do List. So many things to paint ....

Nice one. I too think casualty figures are great to have, even if you aren't using them as markers of unit status they really add to the look of the game. In fact sometimes when playing rules that need them as status markers I find it a tiny bit annoying, because that kind of stops us from using them to "decorate" the battlefield where the fights have been, which is my favourite use for them.

Unfortunately for some reason I always seem to give them quite a low priority on the painting table, they are always the last thing on the to-do list. Everything else just seems more important somehow. Really must get some more done myself.

Pics of tonight's game,a rebellious Raja trying to escape with his treasury loaded upon three camels before being caught by pursuing Brits.
Brits won this one by capturing two of the three camels laden with gold, precious stones and erotic literature. The Raja also was captured, hiding ignominiously in a dung heap, the Indian player rolling a three on the officer wound chart  lol .
Pic 1.Game objectives.
Pic 2 Volunteer Horse make a dash for the treasure laden camels.
Pic 3 The Raja and his bodyguard entering from stage left, heading for his camels.
Pic 4 The fight for control of the baggage.A unit of Ghazis being chased off by the Volunteer Horse.

Yes! and the elephants, the new Scottish skirmishers,( I am painting the other new skirmisher sets now, together with some volunteer cavalry)  the new badmashes and in fact everything ID turns out. This range really got me back into painting after a bit of a slump. The 93rd will be a bit of a challenge but one I'll gladly take.

Hi Colin
They are quite robust,I replace bayonet,as best I can,on the musket with superglue, then next day wrap a cuff of green stuff around the damaged area, once dry paint as usual. Not had a mini with this type of repair break again whilst after a game it's common to see damage to muskets on the "normal" castings.
It looks a bit "blobby" in the hand but on the table during games not noticeable. :)

Had a few broken bayonets myself. Not too many and by now the design is altered so they don't break off as easily any more.
Have you tried drilling them out and re-attaching ? It actually very easy to do. Make sure you have a clean joint by rubbing both pieces lightly  a few times over some  very fine sandpaper.
Us a drill like this. https://www.amazon.com/10Pcs-Carbide-Micro-Drill-Dremel/dp/B0087M3C44

Use the fleshy part of your thumb as a guide to centre the drill and drill approximately 1mm deep on both ends. Insert 0.3 florist wire on the musket side and slide the bayonet part over it.Glue with cyano-acrylate glue. Almost invisible joint and very strong.

Now keep those pictures coming! They are a real inspiration to me and doubtless many others.

Another game tonight with Meirion55 and Jeff965 up at mine using TmwwbK rules.
A scenario from the rulebook,A sigh of Relief, with a British baggage guard protecting the Colonel's supply of crates of Champagne bottles and tins of Larks tongues in Aspic from a bunch of marauding sepoys until a relief force arrives.
Managed two games with Jeff winning both times, once as the British and once as the Sepoys! :)
Pic 1. Sepoy units, for this game classed as Irreg, unenthusiastic.
Pic 2. Baggage guard under attack.
Pic 3. Baggage guard at full strength.
Pic 4.volunteer horse at full tilt.
Pic 5. The Sepoy leader, rolled on the trait table and Meirion55 got a "drunk" result for this chap! Giving an activation roll of 8! Not good  lol.

Tonight's game,Rebels and Patriots once again.
Pics 1 and 2 show the starting forces.
Pic 3 the Rebel battery after taking casualties from Neil's Bluecaps sharpshooters but not before the gunners had caused the Sikhs to break and flee the game.
Pic 4 the end is near for the mutineers.
Pic 5 the victorious 84th capture the guns and giving the Brits a 4 nil win,but not before losing their officer to a volley from the matchlock men prior to the assualt on the battery.
Another fun game with a result that felt right historically, the Enfield armed troops causing morale tests on the sepoys and pushing them back from the guns and the Brit shock unit storming the battery and giving them the win.

Had another great game with Romark last week, here's my take on the proceedings.
Last weeks game set in India during the Mutiny, playing the capture the guns scenario from the R&P rulebook.
The Indian troops deploy first with two medium guns (6pts each) and a Line unit (4pts) on a central hill and another two Line units on their base line.
The British then deploy with a large (18fig) Sepoy Line unit (5pts) to the fore supported by a large British shock unit (8pts) and flanked by two skirmish sharpshooter units (6pts each)
The Brits got an extra point because their Officer was the Generals favourite nephew.
Title: Re: Mutiny miniatures,update 11/04/2019
Post by: Jeff965 on April 13, 2019, 12:36:36 PM
The initial moves went badly wrong for the Brits with the Sepoy unit taking two rounds of Artillery fire and buggering off a bit sharpish, however at least accurate skirmish fire started to tell on the Indian artillery.
Then the tide turned, as the shock troops moved forward they rolled a double six for activation and a six on the events chart which brought on 4pts of reinforcements in the form of a 12 figure Sepoy unit so the attack was back on.
Title: Re: Mutiny miniatures,update 11/04/2019
Post by: Jeff965 on April 13, 2019, 12:40:39 PM
By now the artillery was all but wiped out, a charge from the shock infantry finished them off, and long range accurate skirmish fire also did for one of the mutineer line units.
With the guns gone the skirmishers turned their deadly fire on the mutineer infantry, however a close range volley from the matchlock men managed to push the British infantry back off the hill but it was not enough.

Title: Re: Mutiny miniatures,update 11/04/2019
Post by: Jeff965 on April 13, 2019, 12:44:23 PM
The Brits having had their Officer wounded but carried safely from the field made one last push for the guns with the Sikh Sepoys and British shock troops charging one each just as the skirmish fire managed to cause the last two mutineer units to fall back, a Brit win hurrah!!!
Good game, simple rules that seem to give enough historical flavour to make me feel the units acted as they would have and you can't ask much more than that. :)

enjoyable report and lovely pictures,

having bought troops for the period, I am curious why you are using Rebels and Patriots opposed to the Men who would be Kings. I have both of them and they are both nice rule sets and basically shares the same engine, so I am just curious about the preference or the former.

Hi,thanks for your comments :)
I too have both these sets of rules, however,
I think that R and P is more of a Horse and Musket game, these rules,to my view of the period, just seem to suit the Mutiny better and the game results seem to reflect my idea of how the battles should turn out.
I also prefer the 12 dice at full strength and 6 dice at half strength mechanism over that used in the TmwwbK rules.
Just my opinion of course :)

Cheers

Keith

Another game using Rebels and Patriots Osprey rules tonight.
This time the Widow Creek Bridge scenario, set once more in India during the Mutiny.
Pic 1.Nana Sahib and his troops prepare to deny the bridge to the British.
Pic 2 Strong British force, under command of Lt.the Honourable Hugh Pugh.
Pic 3 Nana's officer trait for this game was "Ruthless",meaning in pursuit of personal glory any troops he was attached to had to be given Attack orders on any enemy unit within 12'',not ideal if you are supposed to be defending the bridge behind hard cover!
Pic 4 True to form Nana Sahib's sepoys charge the loyal sepoys.
Pic 5.Oops! No more sepoys or Nana.
Pic 6 More of Nana's troops advance onto the bridge.
Pic 7 Too many British for them to contend with and they were driven off for a British victory, hurrah!
Out of shot the Sepoy skirmishers did cause heavy casualties on the Loyal sepoys but not enough to break them before the bridge was carried.
Another good game with these rules with the action swaying in favour of one side then the other.

And although some of the Sepoy light companies had rifles not all did so doing these with muskets is perfectly historical too, they were still int eh  process of mving to rifles when the mutiny erupted.

Just did a 'skim the whole thread' review, photos mostly.  All very nice and love the long term continued additions.

Seems it might be nice to have a "troops in review" photo shoot to see the whole collection all at once.  But maybe that's just me.

My own Indian Mutiny collection sadly not only waits getting worked on - even after adding considerable to the total number of figures - and, even worse, just got moved to a storage unit.

Looks like you've tried various rule sets with these figures - which set do you think has been the one you most like to revisit?
