Thanks for the moral Support...
-
Interest way to put together the figures.
Excellent idea.
Guess you could say, "on with their heads." lol
-
Shall follow this with interest
-
"There's Zulu's sarge, tharsands of 'em" ;)
I can just imagine the conversation in the Eric the Shed household...
"Sixty! I've done at least 60, wouldn't you say?"...
"That leaves only 3,940". :D
-

-
that's a formidable lot of iklwa to contend with!
-
Thats 270 in the picture...I have another Warlord games box of 120 on its way plus I have just ordered a dozen indunas from Black Tree - so effectively an army of 400 !
-
Wonderful stuff ! Whose bases and trays are you using ?
I am still to purchase my zulus and am torn between current BTD offering, and there are many good reviews of the figs, or go plastic.
Unfortunately I still have nightmares from building all those vikings and survivors from WGF.....
-
All the details are on the blog...links etc
The bases re steel 25mm washers and the trays are from warbases
I have just finished building 400 plastic Zulus...once you get going it's easy to build the production line
Big tip ...cut out all you need from the spruces first
Cannot comment on the btd stuff other than it is still twice the price of plastic when on sale. My plastic Zulus work out at 50p per figure....as I said above all the details are on the blog
-
The first 360 Zulus are finished (bases & trays still to be done)...I think i have built quite a horde in the last 4 weeks

Did you do all those in a month!? :o
Astounding work. They look great.
-
Incredible! How do you do it?
-
Two hours a night
Very easy....
-
Wow! I'll say it again....you're a machine! :o
-
Two hours a night
Very easy....
That's still an awful lot of figures. :)
-
At top speed I was painting and finishing 30 in one night...thanks guys
I think the Brits will take a lot longer....
Ever since we put together the 28mm ECW stuff we have decided Big 28mm Battles are glorious
-
30 figures in one night?! I've had 30 figures on my painting table (actually the dining table so it all has to get unpacked and then packed away again) for at least two months. It hasn't helped that work has gotten in the way. Stupid work. There is something very different about big battles like that though, you definitely have to do it.
-
Outstanding.
You should enjoy your gaming for years.
-
Unbelievable again. Fantastic. You need the shed extension as storage room for the millions of figures.
-
Now started on the Brits...only 100 of these boys to paint
Blog post here
http://shedwars.blogspot.co.uk/2016/08/colonial-wars-british-army-started.html (http://shedwars.blogspot.co.uk/2016/08/colonial-wars-british-army-started.html)
plus I have just ordered some Boers (on deal) from Black Tree Design - deal ends soon
-
Spent four hours last night assembling and basing the British Infantry
60 from Warlord Games (plastic) and 40+ from Blacktree - These got given a prime last thing in the evening and early this morning I started the paintwork (boots & trousers on Blacktree figures before work
(http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j375/ErictheShed/zulu/AZ1_zpshpf00ndw.jpg)

-
Splendid stuff sir! What a superb find and your conversion work is spot on!
-
They'll fill up a wagon train nicely. They look especially good with the canvas on.
-
Nicely done, Giles.
They do tart up well, dont they?
:-*
And at that price, who's complaining?
:)
If you are looking for cheap draught option like I did, I went for plastic ERTL cows.
Even with postage from the States they were seriously affordable.
;)
-
Nicely done Giles! 8)
-
Lovely job :-* :-* :-*
Now all you need are some Indians to race round the wagons and you are halfway through another project :D
-
Thanks guys....

You were right .....and thank you for the latest Christmas present request! lol

You were looking for draught horses and the Crann Tara limber set has 2 suitable sized animals with the bonus that the limber provides an axle tree for the wagons (and you get a couple of nice wheels for the bits box. ;)
]
please which drivers do you use?
-
Great way to finish off this project.

Capital stuff!
And marvellous output. I am aware that you paint armies with another approach than I paint small groups for skirmish games, but it is still quite amazing how much you get done!
-
Rather good Giles 8)
Altogether now... 'Men of Harlech, stand ye steady... '
It's a shame you're going to have to set fire to it near the end of the game... :D
-
:o :oSweet zombie jeebus!
That is a lot of zulus! I don't think I have that many painted figures in my entire collection.
-
You have done a marvelous job with one of my absolute favourite battles. This is in no way meant as a criticism, but the hospital and storehouse should be reversed. ;)

Yup you are right...
Almost finished the groundwork for the Drift - just the Kraal to finish
(https://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j375/ErictheShed/zulu/DSC_1123_zps46emtwlq.jpg)
Loads more pictures and in progress shots on the blog plus a couple of interesting 'interviews' found on you tube

thanks for all the great comments
-
I see you mention the interview with David Rattray. I have tapes (yes cassettes!) he used to sell following a stay at his lodge at Fugitives Drift many years ago. He took us to Rorkes Drift and Isandlwana. It was great to hear him recounting the fighting and the stories at both battlefields, he certainly knew how to evoke the period. :)
-
We fought both Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift on Sunday - 138th anniversay - report up on the blog
I posted the Isandlwana report earlier...

So now that Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift have been refought I am going to give the Zulu Wars a breather and turn my attention back to another project
Thanks for following this thread
