From Michaels post on PMT

"Coming soon, this is the first of a sporadic range of hard-plastic buildings for 28mm wargaming. This is something I've been experimenting with in conjunction with Renedra, who manufactures our plastic figures.

The building is loosely based on General Meade's HQ at Gettysburg, but obviously can be used from 1750 to... well, modern days, really! The doors are made to open and close (if you are so inclined), and comes with fencing. The model was painted by Aly Morrison, and fencing made by Tim Adcock.

This is close to completion, and we'll let you know as soon as it's ready.

This is just one of the two or three 'other' things I've been working on, more of which later...."

oh the possibilities :o :o :o

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm seeing a whole new range of Perry quality buildings... That one's going to do for my F&IW collection.

You know (any modellers old enough to know what I'm talking about), the inexorable rise and diversification of the Perrys reminds me of the Francois Verlinden story.

Basically, he started out just being a jolly good modeller and painter of Tamiya kits and ace dioramas.
Then he started manufacturing a few bits of his own to help diorama builders, and provide optional extras for Tamiya kits.
Then, before you know it, he's a bloody great model manufacturer in his own right, with a huge range of figures, scenery, books, accessories.

Not that I know what happened to him in the end, since I stopped military modelling years ago...

I can see the Perrys ending up with a pretty dominant wargames / modelling empire - bigger than Foundry.

Yay.

Hope those houses are also modelled inside...

If only I gamed anything where I could actually use a house like that. I suppose it works in Pulp, though I'm not overly keen on rural settings (unless maybe Arkham or Innsmouth or something).

I hope they'll do some houses for ancient, medieval or 16th-17th century settings as well.

What would be really cool, but kind of an outside chance, is if they made some buildings to go with their Samurai range.

Useful for my wild West sets, but I'm hoping they do some nice European houses for Napoleonics. (I have all the half-timbered houses I'll ever need).

That is very nice.  :)

I too would like to see some Asian buildings from them.

If he's still around, I expect he has (semi) retired by now...  I remember that - in the early 70's (when he still had his shop in Lier Belgium) and was only starting to turn out his first plaster scenery - he came to judge a painting contest at (our then) club (ABC - Ancient Battlegaming Club, can you imagine...).  We had a grand total of 8 members (about the whole wargames community in Belgium at the time, I guess) and I entered a unit of Teutonic knights (25mm M'figs).  I won!  :D  I don't think I have the figures any more, but I'm sure they would still get the 1st price today (if one were to reverse the order...  lol lol lol)

Ah, Rudi - I had those Minifigs Teutonic Knights as well, from the 'Alexander Nevsky' range as I recall... Lovely figures for the time.
I had a whole army of them, all painted as 'Aquitanians' (or was it Aquilonians?) for a Hyperborian campaign which went on for years...
Happy days  ;)

GW lost an ace when they released their multi part building kits as a WH product, rather than generic; otherwise we would all have bought loads of ruined model cities and manor houses.  I hope the Perrys are smart enough to realise that with a few extra bits we will all buy several of these models each, and make towns and villages.

Huh.....?? What do you call what you're doing now...???  ;)

I'm kinda exited about the Perries (Perrys?) going into this area, too. We really NEED more affordable wargaming building models (it takes FAR too long to build up a decent village if one has to save up for each building individually)!

Let's see what they have up their sleeves  :)

I suspect that the Perry buildings will be hollow for 2 reasons, Cost of casting and cost of shipping. It will be interesting if there is a base floor included though.

I think this will be a good thing. Having just hand shingled the roof of my AWI church I would certainly be after some ready made roof sections! It would be good if they extended the range to include other periods such as the Sudan (plastic modular riverboat anyone?) or the Samurai stuff. Resin weight is a killer with the old shipping costs when you live in Australia. Or anywhere.

I do hope the 'other things' might include a new colonial range. I think a NW Frontier or Mutiny would be excellent. I do have some of their foundry NW frontier figures and they look a bit tired and stiff next to their newer ranges. They certainly are improving! However, the club consensus is that it will probably be Franco Prussian War. Still, that might not be a bad thing for us colonial gamers and give us plenty of extra models for early colonial gaming or VSF.

I shall watch with interest.

Wonder if this comes in a kit form like the model railway stuff, even then I would by it anyway. This is nice.

I would think kit form is a plus!

And the potential of customizability. Although looking at that particular house, I'm not sure if it could be arranged in any other way.

I doubt that, because if this range takes off, I expect they will concentrate on providing buildings for their existing figure ranges, so it might be reasonable to expect Medieval and 17thC European, Middle East/Sudanese, Japanese etc.

Of these, the medieval Japanese would fill by far the biggest gap in the market and would, I feel, be a great success.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who feels that way. I still think it's kind of an outside chance that the Perrys would have feudal Japanese houses as a priority, but it would be so awesome if it happened. Fingers crossed.
