So chaps and lasses
Really enjoying Lion Rampant and am sorely tempted to get some of the Vendel dwarves and elves and orcs etc for some Middle Earth gaming.
How is Dragon Rampant different? Is there a bit more scope for hero's and characters than in Lion Rampant?
It'd be nice to have a hero have a chance to be heroic.

yes!!!
D.R.uses strengthpoints(wounds)
so a unit may have 6 Strengthpoints(6 knights) but you can feeld understrength units so you can use 1 hero ore 6 mann
whatever.(the dice you roll are the same ak.12 fore a full unit)
Its realy free to take youre stuff on the tabletop
and you can upgrad your units with special abiltitys like fleiing ore invisibiliti/fear ....
D.R. is "better2 than lion rampant because you have more fredom to build your warband
just get the rules if you like lion rampant you will love dragon rampant!!!

I'd agree with the above. If you like Lion Rampant and enjoy a bit of mid-low fantasy gaming, DR is brilliant. It also allows you to field whatever you like; it's been a terrible blow to my wallet as now I no excuse not to buy a box of whatever I fancy...
The one rule I miss from LR is the duel idea.

No challenge/duel in DR indeed. Also there are a few new troop types such as lesser and greater warbeasts for all your fantastical creature needs.
And good choice miniatures wise! I also really like the "realistic" (former) Vendel fantasy minatures.

Just to join in the life learning, can you play dragon rampant against forces from lion Rampant or are they too dissimilar?
-
Dear Moody,
The systems are very close.
I think you could even use your historical Lion Rampant armies to fight against your Fantasy Dragon Rampant armies.
I have not tried it yet.

I use my Romans and Amazons from Hail Caesar in Dragon Rampant and they do quite well.
Another point in DR's favor - basing really doesn't matter. An army of giants with one model per unit on a 3" base stats and rolls the same as an army of goblins all on individual bases. Sure, the giant takes up less space than 12 goblins, but isn't that what you'd expect in the movie?

I've used my Wars of the Roses and Dark Ages forces as Kingdoms of men in DR. Works fine.

There are only a few unit upgrades in LR are not available in DR, such as pavasses for crossbowmen/heavy missles. Other than that the unit entries in LR are the same in DR. I play my LR warband in DR all the time, and do quite well.
As an aside, the upgrades to units in both rules may be a reason to get both books. That way you would have more options to fully realize your vision of a unit. And don't forget Dan Mersey's rules for Dark Age LR! Even more options to use!

Where can I find the Dark Age Lion Rampant rules?

Cheers chaps
Tried them on the weekend and liked what I saw.
Got a few elves, dwarves and orcs on order to add to my feudal human troops!
