Despite terrifying lack of time, I tried to convert and paint some Civil War miniatures. I took some Gripping Beast arabs and, with the help from greenstuff and my bitzbox created these plastoons (with dashing officer).
Unpainted

Very nice conversions, Father Primus. It's inspiring to see such unexpected source figures transformed.
I was a bit baffled about what Cubans were doing in the Russian Civil War (I know Britain and the USA intervened, but that seemed a step too far), and then I twigged - Kubans from the Black Sea rather than Cubans from the Caribbean, right?

lol lol lol lol
Mea culpa))) Misspelled a bit... ::)
-
Nice, whatever the spelling! What's the background to these guys? I mean historically not the figures... They look so good I'd like to copy them in 54mm.
-
They are just foot cossacks, usually recruited from poorer inhabitants of cossack territories, who couldn't afford to buy a horse.
These are form Kuban host - they fought for white Armes Forces of Southern Russia. Initially they fought well, but ideological differences between cossacks and white officers finally set them apart.

Thanks for the prompt reply - sound like a useful addition to my BoB/RCW forces

You're welcome!
Humble plastoons are often overlooked by wargamers - they're not as cool as colored-regiments or smartly dressed mounted caucassian cossacks.
-
They look great . Wonderful conversions.
-
Your converse worked out very well.
-
Very nice pieces!
-
Lovely conversions, very good 8)
They work much better as cossacks with your Green Stuff additions, than they do as Arabs!
-
Kuban assault goes on and on!
Let's take some mongols/napoleonic french and turn 'em into any comissar's living nightmare - mounted cossacks!
