I have recently begun sculpting 6mm monsters for use with Pocket Quest a 6mm dungeon crawler.
So far I've made a Grell, an Othyug, a Beholder and a Carrion Crawler with a few more monsters still to come

Now I have been asked by various people if I will be getting these cast up.
As I have never done anything like that I'd like to get some advise on what to look for when sculpting figures as relates to ease of casting.
I wouldn't want to go through all the trouble to end up with figures that won't pop out of the mold in one piece.
For example do I attach the eyesalks to the beholder or put them on a seperate sprue?
Or maybe, there's a cavity underneath the grell's tentacles, do I need to fill that up first?
Are there any other thing else I should keep in mind?
Any and all advise welcome.
Cheers,
Stroezie

A very productive day today, sculpted three more monsters, a purple worm, a roper and a rust monster

I experimented with using milliput and a mixture of milliput and greenstuff to test out some things I read online.
The worm could have been a bit beefier and the rust monster a bit smaller but that would be nitpicking, for first attempts I am quite happy with them.

And here they are all assembled, based and ready to be painted as I ponder which monsters I'm going to tackle next.

They look great! As for casting I think other on here are more knowledgeable on that front then me.

Impressive you got them that good looking at such a small scale!

Now with a dash of paint

I als knocked together a tiny 1x1x1 cm gelatinous cube out of hotglue using DmScotty's method.
Got to keep them dungeon corridors clean don't you know ;-)

Various people have asked if I could do stirges, well this is about as small as I can get them so they’ll have to do for now.
The three stirges Moe, Larry and Curly

Nicely done. And great idea!
I saw the topic title - 'sculpting help needed' - and not to say I'm a huge expert overall, but it's the one aspect of sculpting I know least about! But I'd say imagine the sculpt being cross-sectioned in one plane, and watch out for too-deep overhangs, or pieces running parallel to that plane, that'd be irretrievably stuck in either half of a rubber mould. E.g. I think the roper would be fine, cut from top-to-bottom, side-to-side (frontally (https://malouffsaandpblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/body-planes.jpg)) - it might need some filling in behind the teeth, but otherwise there doesn't seem to be much that'd get caught. The beholder's eyestalks, the grell's reaching tentacles, and the carrion crawler's antennae might need to be repositioned, though.
(Pending someone else turning up who knows more about what they're talking about)

I have another green to share with you, another classic D&D monster, the Hook Horror. (I'm starting to suspect my 2nd ed.AD&D roots are showing through :P )

He's proving a bit hard to photograph properly, hopefully once he gets a lick of paint you'll be able to see the details a little better.
