Title: How to paint a palm tree?
Post by: Argonor on July 13, 2006, 08:29:32 PM
This topic might as well have been placed under Pulp, but:

Does anyone out there have a good guide as to which colours to use on the trunk of a palm tree? I'm looking for a middle-eastern/north african look - and we haven't got many palm trees in denmark ;-)

There are plenty of them at IKEA   :)
Sweden is close.....

Well actually this is not Sweden...I googled and found this pic as a first hit.
The trunk looks like a sand colour. I would brush the trunk in a dark brown and  highlight  it with softer browns. The final highlights would be Valejo 976 BUFF and  Bleached Bone.

Yep, I would suggest that too, darker brown up to ochre/sand colours

Thanks!

I had vague idea of something like that - I just had my doubts after seing some painted trees on the web, which seem more white/greyish in he finish. Perhaps they are more like the palm trees of SE Asia and the Pacific area? Maybe I should just listen to my own signature and get painting..  :)

The ones outside my window are a mid-gray colour, some with sandy patches & often a hint of green. I'd paint them gray with a light glaze of green over them. The only yellowish parts are the more recently dead leaves/branches.
