Title: Perry Plastics - what is in the pipeline?
Post by: Mick_in_Switzerland on October 09, 2016, 11:12:40 AM
As I recall, the Perry brothers have promised to do the following in plastic.
1415 Mounted Knights for Agincourt
1879 British Army for Zulu War

Does any body know what is planned after that.
Zulus? (although I don't think there is a need as both Wargames Factory and Warlord have done decent Zulus)

I would like to see Afghan Tribesmen for 1870 to 1900

Have you heard any rumours?

Regards
Mick

Good question, and always fun to speculate  :)

I've been saying two things for years: landsknechts and Pathans. Both would lend themselves to the multipart plastic set approach the Perrys do so well, and both would be logical next steps on from existing sets...

Another WW2 set would be nice. But what? Italians? Too niche. Japanese? I would think it possible. Bear in mind a lot of the Perry plastic output is an 'homage' to the Airfix ranges of yore...

Beyond that, who knows. Probably yet more ACW / Napoleonics. Kill me now...
 ;)

I'd be as happy as a pig in shite  ;D

Won't happen though  :(

Yeah, I suspect there is still more mileage in Napoleonics. Plastic cossacks anyone? On the theme of Airfix inspired sets, US Marines would probably be a decent seller and WW2 Japanese would be nice.

Me? I'd be quite happy with some perhaps lateral extensions to existing ranges in metal. British infantry for  the First Afghan war and some US infantry in herringbone twill for Operation Torch to complement the DAK and Eighth Army sets. I doubt any of it will happen.

1880 Afghans, especially mounted, would be very nice. Plus mounted colonial Brits.

However, British airborne (not just paras but 'proper' airlanding) for NWE 44-45 would be the pinnacle for me. Perhaps with SAS (British, French/Belgian) and Op. Jedburgh options. Perhaps a box of Germans and maybe Maquis too. Sigh.

I'd love to see plastic French. It should be quite easy to make them usable for both late WWI and early WWII, just include different kitbags and possibly a few different weapons. Either in the plastic box itself or as metal extras.

Thank-you for your comments

I think Samurai , Mounted Samurai and Ashigaru are very possible because the Perries have a huge metal range.
I think that they would also be very popular.
I can imagine pages of threads on LAF with conversions and combinations like it was (and is) with the Perry WOTR sets.

I think that they must have covered the commercially interesting troops for ACW as they already have a lot of plastic sets.

I do not know anything about the Napoleonic Wars by I guess that core troops for Russians and Prussians would be popular enough to make in plastic.  They already have infantry for both.

With WW2, I have no idea.
Their current ranges are for the 1942 desert war, so US Army for Operation Torch does make good sense.
Mid War Japanese and US Marines may be possible but they already exist from Warlord.
I don't see Perry going into late WW2 in the near future as that is already well supplied by Warlord, Wargames Factory and PSC.

The Perries also have a large Crusades range, but that is quite well served by Fireforge and Gripping Beast.

Regards

Mick

The ammount of stuff they put out for those two ranges (both metals and plastics) is mind-boggling!

I would so love it if they re-visited their mid/late 15th century ranges and gave them the same sort of love.
I know they have 5 plastic box sets already, but they could do more! As fantastic as the 'WOTR infantry' and 'European infantry' sets are, they are kind of limited because they cover so many different weapon combos (bills, longbows, pikes, crossbows and hanguns) with just the same 12 bodies. I think there would be a market for some sets dedicated to specific troops. Most obviously pikemen in poses other than shouldered weapons, perhaps marketed as Swiss, with parts to convert to halberdiers and other polearms. I'd be happy with the arms as one piece with the bodies, with just the hands (with either pikes or polearms) and heads to give the options, plus of course a command sprue full of extra goodies. They could also do a dedicated 'Longbowmen' set, with all suitable longbow firing poses. If they ever did that, I'd be in heaven!
And if no more platic, ANY more metal sets for those ranges would be welcome for me. Absolutely anything. Even just different combinations of poses / armour / uniform for archers or billmen, or more random men at arms and command groups, or some better quality pikemen in useful poses with a variety of armour / uniform, or any random infantry with polearms.... or more crossbowmen and handgunners..... How about some Spanish troops, they could do a great mini range there... Jinettes? How about some more 'non combat' sets, such as messengers, scouts, horse-holders, more casualties... I see the huge range of such things the ACW and Napoleonic fans get and I am jealous!
Perry bros - if you never bring out any more plastics for the 15th century ranges, just give us more metal sets! I'll take the lot!!!

But, um yeah... I dunno what's in the pipeline. I did hear they are not planning to post preview 'greens' so early anymore, which is a good idea, as it will lead to more fun surprises rather than us checking for updates every week to see if certain sets are finished and released yet.
They are apparently still planning / making an Agincourt era cavalry box, but no idea when it will see release.

I'm hoping for landsknechts and ashigaru. And by hoping, I mean desperately pleading. Some plastic Normans/crusaders could be nice, too. I'm not a fan of the available plastics from other companies.
