Title: My Prodos Games Aliens
Post by: Michi on October 14, 2016, 09:02:42 PM
I have finished all of the Aliens models for the Alien vs Predator game by Prodos.
Here is the Queen:
Next are the Royal Guards or Pretorians:
Here comes the infamous Predalien, another HQ option for the Alien faction in the game:
21 so called Infant Alien Warriors are the core of the Alien force:
11 Alien Stalkers reinforce the warriors:
Finally 5 (adult) Alien Warriors add to the main force of troops as well:
New recruits for the Aliens can be provided by Facehuggers who implant Xenomorph embrios into their opponents:
And there is this big massive Alien Crusher to add some extra power to the Xenomorph attacks:
A Predator mask that was left over from a conversion was added to one of those very nice Sulaco bases from Fenris Games:
The bases were painted leather brown with silver Alien infestations.
Both were washed with a Sepia wash.
An additional black wash and a gloss varnish was applied for the infestations:
The Facehuggers were painted white and washed with Sepia:
The Xenomorphs were painted black, drybrushed with silver, washed with black and gloss varnished:
This "family" photo of the hive models shows the different sizes of those 28mm scale Xenomorphs.
The bases are 30, 40 and 50mm in diameter.

The first figures for the human faction in the Aliens universe are finished: Weyland-Yutani Commandos, which are obviously elite in comparison to the better known Colonial Marines, given that their stats in the game are above the marines level.
I have painted a squad of five commandos. One of them received a motion tracker donated by a marine model to have a rule-conform assembly.
A squad of Weyland-Yutani Commandos can be reinforced with up to three commandos. These can be equipped with either M41 pulse rifles or up to two can carry smart guns.
The human faction must have one or two leaders in the game. None of these are available as models by Prodos Games yet. Therefore I have built my own Weyland-Yutani Commandos Captain by slaughtering and reassembling several miniatures. This one is now equipped with a rule-conform set of weaponry.
The comparison shot with the Alien Infant Warrior (classic Alien from the first movie) is showing the physical inferiority of the humans in the game.

The best of the best, the chosen ones, the defenders of mankind, the heroes of space and planetary warfare, the
United States Colonial Marine Corps:   :D

I have finished four squads of five Colonial Marines to give hell to the aliens.

A Captain and a Sergeant were made by conversions of other Marine figures and additional weapons. One unconverted Marine remained from the donating squad of five and is now a Corporal for reinforcement of any squad:

Notice: These are four different squads which consist of the same miniatures each, therefore there are four dancing blokes...  ::)

Actually he is the "medic" armed with a flamer and I don´t really know why the sculptor chose that stance...  :?

Yeah. Seeing some many Marines together makes me think of this trailer for the "Alien: Colonial Marines" game:

I just watched it. You´re right on that: Great trailer, however I don´t play video games - therefore I can´t judge the game.
To counterweight the funny medics here are some guys who will really mean business to the xenomorphs: Power loaders armed with flamers!

Here are the last models for the human faction in Alien vs. Predator: The Caterpillar P-5000 Powered Work Loader
- or as the Colonial Marines call it: POWER LOADER

I got the hint from LAF member Sgt. Scream that there is a ride for my Marines:
M577 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps is a relatively small and lightweight combat vehicle. It was designed to fit into the cargo bay of a UD-4L Cheyenne dropship to be deployed everywhere in fast response. It weighs less than 15 tons, although armoured and armed and is operated by a crew of two (driver and section commander) and offers space for thirteen passengers. The section commander can manage the operative actions of the soldiers from the build-in Tactical Operations Centre.
The model is from Neca and goes quite well with the AvP miniatures by Prodos scale-wise. Wheels and guns can be moved on the model. The prototype´s wheels were said to be 159cm diameter. Look at the Marine who seems to be a rather tall bloke then. The overall impression suits my taste though. However there is no use in the game for it yet. Vehicles are mentioned in the rules, but are not covered. A tabletop version of the game has been announced and will probably release vehicle rules and a resin model of the M577 by Prodos eventually like they recently did with the UD-4L Cheyenne Dropship, which is not yet covered by any rules either.

Title: Predators now!
Post by: Michi on December 04, 2016, 03:26:54 PM
YAUTJA:

The Yautja - or as the humans call them: Predators. An alien race from outer space that haunts our world for trophies. There are theories that Earth actually was their place of origin until the entire population of them left it more than 10.000 years ago. Others say they were visitors back then and were worshipped by prehistorical humans who considered them gods. Fact is that they are capable hunters who collect trophies of their most opposing prey. There are several different categories of hunters in their socity...

Warriors
(https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-48XmNhP2jQ8/WEQkAoKs0fI/AAAAAAAAJTM/B-gPYokRxlcUjQ_Xy-KrrBSbM9ZqytaggCLcB/s1600/Kinderbilder%2B008.JPG)

Warriors are armed with a combination of blades and a so-called telescopic combi-stick. They are melee experts and seek close combat.

Female Warriors
(https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ftjk7GyzcWo/WEQkBtN_0oI/AAAAAAAAJTc/6phyqd_Us5k9lTgkylRqt6PntOxRy73EgCLcB/s1600/Kinderbilder%2B012%2BKopie.JPG)

Although never seen in any movie, the comic books and novels claim that there are female Warriors too. Yautja society is believed to be a matriarchy with women therefore rather be brain than muscles. Related females form families who settle and breed together while males are sent abroad to live on their own. Fathership means nothing. Male Yautja group to hunt packs and seek glory in trophies and reputation to attract females. It is unknown why females go hunting too - perhaps for sports or for fun...
I was lucky to get one of the rare Kickstarter pledge reward females which can´t be bought. Before that I converted a female fantasy barbarian with parts of some male predators into a female Yautja. This is the one on the right. Regretfully it was brought to my attention later that female Yautja are bigger and stronger than their male mates. If I had known that before, I had chosen a muscular male body and added some breasts instead. Now she is a female youngling who is going to earn herself some respect I say...

Hunters
(https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-io8OJJk-T4Y/WEQkEql6JsI/AAAAAAAAJUI/H1X6vXT9pkAKLMonBGKk6mB4aQytClLTACLcB/s1600/Kinderbilder%2B021.JPG)

Hunters are equipped with blades and plasma guns. Therefore they are able to kill at a distance as well as in melee. They are often accompanied by a pack of hounds to track and hunt down their prey.

Berserkers
(https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kDDA1Is5gmw/WEQkFm-6OPI/AAAAAAAAJUY/RLDe629njC40EYbsQYgmMcNoAG7YaNPFACLcB/s1600/Kinderbilder%2B026%2BKopie.JPG)

Berserkers are the most brutal and fierce of the Predators. They are similarly equipped as the hunters, yet they don´t seek the aid of hounds and prefer the direct kill of their game. The reptilian-looking berserker in the center is also a Kickstarter pledge reward which was luckily obtained by me. The miniature perfectly displays the features of the Super-Predator "Berserker" from the movie Predators, but I decided to make his armour resemble some Egytian influenced appearance. Perhaps it was a gift from human worshippers of that region to one of his ancestors millenia ago.

Such an obvious use of that particular mini - an what a nice execution!  :-*

May I ask about your hair recipe, please? I am always looking for nice alternative blonde hair how-to guides.  :)

Your blue denim job also deserves kudos, btw! Exquisite!

I basecoat the blond hair with Vallejo72040 leather brown (any ochre or german camo dunkelgelb will do), mix a cold yellow into that for painting the raised hair streaks, mix white into that mix for highlights on head top and hair tips. Fairly easy, I admit.
The denim is simply any blue with black mixed in to tone it dull and then white added for highlighting.

Great, thanks! I'll have a go at something similar!

And simple solutions are perhaps easy - but it is coming up with them that makes the difference.  :)

Hi,
I've just discovered your posts, which are inspirational. I was wondering were the facehuggers are from, are they from Prodos games. If they are, did you cut them from their bases to base them individual.

Yes you´re right, I cut the Facehuggers off (separated the couples too) and glued them on Fenris Sulaco bases.

I have finally got the yet unobtained Kickstarter pledge rewards that Prodos Games released for AvP. These are Alien eggs, Linn Kurosawa, Dutch Shaefer and a Sergeant:

This time no models, but cards:
I bought the 2nd Edition Upgrade kit to keep the rules on track with the gaming development of THE HUNT BEGINS. I am a bit disappointed though, because there are only those cards for the miniatures from the core game included.
If you already got some additional packs of models almost all of the existing cards coming with those models are obsolete now, because the stats have changed drastically in the rules. I would have expected a complete and upgraded set of new cards for all of the available models.
Such cards are not available at all - not in the upgrade kit, not as additional card set and neither they come with the model packs.
Therefore I made them by myself, copying, cutting, gluing and laminating cards for a couple of days. I even produced some for the models mentioned in the rules that are not (yet?) available as well - namely officers for the humans (I have converted some existing models as stand-ins) and specials for the aliens (Praetorian and evolved warriors):

4 Evolved Warriors on 40mm bases made from bodies of Infant Warriors with heads and tails of Warriors.

Prodos Games have released another addition to their Aliens vs. Predator game in May - the Alien King. Towering every other model with its sheer height of 15cm and coming with a particular scenario, this miniature is truly something extraordinary. The elaborate base displays an alien stalker for size comparison. I added a few other pieces to the base, but it is mainly as it comes out of the box.

He fits perfectly scale-wise. Look at that alien stalker on the base (last picture). That one is cast on the base and exacts the size of the single stalkers.

Some progress in painting after only gaming AvP for almost a year:

I've got some new Alien Spitters from the latest expansion HOT LANDING ZONE for AvP. The unicasts are not any worse than the previous multipart models from the Kickstarter edition. Thes fine warrior xenomorphs may spit acid, therefore actually "shooting" aliens.

This 3D-printed resin model in 1/48th scale is not designed to an actual prototype, but resembles the rollers made by BOMAG during the second half of the past century. The model was constructed and prinbted by a nice bloke from Berlin who makes model railway supplements for his own use.

Another resurrection of an old thred is due - after many miniatures were painted and many games were played, I decided to start
BUILDING BETTER WORLDS
to have even more Aliens vibes on the table.

Therefore I started a search for Bug Hunt Corridors by Fantasy Arc which were released in 2014, but never made it really beyond Kickstarter. However I got a second hand pledge in the past that was very nice, but far too less to play with properly. This August I asked for more on the WANTED board of the Bazaar of Obscurities here on LAF, which actually was answered and I managed a pick-up in England during my summer holidays. That lucky find also demanded the only proper name for the colony: SERENDIPITY. Now that I'm back, I just couldn't wait to some first assemblies done and test my painting on them.

Here are the first results:

This is the first finished section, completely assembled and painted:

The way I wanted the corridors had always been clear to me - just like Hadley's Hope in the Aliens movie in grey, red walls with yellow/black striped railings. The floor gratings should have been rusty in my imagination and I went with that. I was undecided about the walls of the rooms though. I wanted disturbing and ugly industrial colors of some sort like. That kind of look you feel uncomfortable with, but oddly found everywhere in industrial buildings, workshops and strorage rooms or even naval vessels. Not necessarily something sci-fi, but nothing cosy and welcoming at least. What do you think?
