Hi guys
This is the first in a series of posts about 28mm Napoleonic plastic conversions, 28mm isn't my personal preferred scale, however like most of us I succumbed to shiny syndrome and bought a few boxes of plastics as they were released, and have always intended to see what I could do with them, I don't get much personal hobby time to paint, but I can do this type of modelling sitting on the lounge watching tv (I only like painting during daylight hours), so these will be constructed faster than I can paint them.
I am a modeller/painter, not really a gamer, and would rather they got game time than collect dust, so these may (depending on how attached I get to them) become available for sale once I have finished, email me with an offer if you are interested, highest bid wins.
To start the series I have chosen foot dragoons (as opposed to dismounted dragoons), I have 1 box of Perry dragoons, and was able to get 16 foot dragoons out of that box without lessening the number of mounted dragoons I can make, I only had enough bearskins for 6 elites (I might try and sculpt a couple to extend it to 8) I will be basing these for Sharp practice, I will keep the dismounted dragoon bodies for later use.
Bodies and arms are from the Victrix French infantry box, heads and swords are from the Perry dragoon box, I am going for a campaign look, my favourite setting is the Peninsula war so modelling these for that, does anyone know what foot dragoon units were used in the Peninsula?
The Victrix plastics are nice, but I find some of the detail is a little understated, so have re sculpted these areas, I made the collars higher and opened them up, bulked out the cartridge cases, they were way to small, and added shoulder loops/boards to the non elites, I also added patches, neck kerchiefs, holes to some knees, and a second cross belt to some of the bodies that needed them.
I prefer action poses to marching for skirmish game figures, so did that, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, I will be building this force up to 5 or 6 8 man units, but will use different French troop types for the other units including cavalry.
Next up Black Brunswicker Oels Jagers for the Peninsular, all comments welcome, please feel free to give me any corrections or improvement ideas, better getting these before they are painted then after.

Hi guys
I was going to do Brunswickers next, but have decided to finish some Portuguese I started years ago, (I will show the line troops later) so I knocked these up last night, not to much of a conversion.r
Grey parts are Perry Brits, brown parts Victrix Brits
1) removed loops from cuffs
2) replaced shako plate with putty hunting horn and bigger cockade
3) removed bayonet from musket
4) removed pack straps
5) added Victrix French sword/bayonet and bugle
6) then added putty patches and shoulder loops and banged them up a bit
Still need to added powder horns, and a sling on the officers musket.
All comments and ideas for improvement welcome.

Hi guys
Wasn't happy with the results of these after taking the first pictures, so have done more work to them, I have
1) added more hair/sideburns
2) added water bottle cap and strap
3) added extra buttons to the chest lace.
4) added pointy cuffs
Again I thought these were ready foe paint, but now I'm thinking of adding a powder horn, waist belt and box on right hip (mine are armed with muskets should they have that box?) and should I re do the shako plumes? the plastic ones are to perfect, want a campaign look to these, anything else I should add?

Great conversion stuff, gives me some ideas. On the French Dragoons, not 100% sure you have the uniform right but I will have to look at my research...if anything glares up, I will let you know, so you can correct if necessary (desired).
Overall, really like what you have done with them. I do this sort of thing myself but try to stay away from the Victrix bits, as they are not very detailed. I find you can salvage the bodies and some boxes (like the IG Grenadiers/Foot Chasseurs) are better than the original sets (British were poor but it was their first effort). Why didn't you opt to use the Perry musket arms in the Dragoon box?
Keep up the good work!

Splendid work. :)

Hi Arkoudaki - because the only have 2 options, and they are wearing riding gloves.

Hi guys
OK, I think these are ready for paint, Have added moustaches powder horns and re did the plumes since the last pics, I just want to add some lace to the officers cuffs then that will be it, unless any of you can see an area that is wrong or could be better, all c&c welcome, as for colours, I'm not really concerned with what unit I do, I will go for the most interesting colours, the 11th Cacadors sound good, brown uniform with red collar and sky blue cuffs, I will try to paint these dirty and faded.

Hi guys
First look at my plastic Brunswick Oels Jager conversions, pretty straight forward, Perry Brit bodies (kneeling/officer are Victrix) and a range of Shako heads, dark grey are Perry Brit light Cav, light grey Victrix French, and white Victrix Austrian officers shako, and have used some Perry dismounted dragoon arms with musket trimmed to look like a rifle, then
1) added shoulder straps and pointed cuffs
2) trim lace off Brit line infantry lapels, or side buttons off rifleman lapels
3) smoothed out pack
4) added horse hair plumes
5) officers lace (not happy with that yet, need to go 1 row higher to the shoulders)
Just need to add a few details, base and will take more pics, all comments welcome.

-
Looking good! For the officer, why not use some of the spare torsos from the Perry's Hussars or Lt Dragoons, as that has lace you need.
-
good idea on the officer body, will see how this one turns out first.

Hi guys

really nice indeed

Thanks mate.

Commenting on it to find it later, amazing conversions! :D
-
Very convincing conversions, you are doing a great job there! Cheers!
-
Unfortunately, these are from years back, and checking the site, I can't see any painted Sharp Practice pictures. It's a shame as the jagers, dismounted dragoons and cacadores all look excellent.I would have loved to see them painted up.
-
Yeah, should really get back onto these guys.
-
Yes, you definitely should as it was a really good conversion! So get busy...after you have done your 20mm Gebirgsjagers that is! ;D
-
Yeah, should really get back onto these guys.
Yep, I would love to see them painted up. The conversions looked great.
-
Yeah, it will have to wait until the Gebirgsjagers are done, having to much fun with them, green stuff is almost done.
-
Great conversions. :-* :-* :-*
A thread to follow for sure. :)
