I have recently got myself the imperial assault box set.
So I thought I would start a thread on my progress
The first figure painted

I am intending to build a board to suit these but I am still undecided as to what to build.
My choice is between an imperial base or a rebel base set in a wood not intending to do much in the way of interiors but I am thinking of a landing area but that will depend on what ships I can get a hold of. My google-fu is week at the moment and having trouble finding what is out there.
So if anybody has some more knowledge please pass it on
also looking for inspiration for the base
-
Welcome to the Dark Side >:D
Build an Imperial base and scratch build everything :D
cheers
James
-
A really good start. I would go with an Imperial base or maybe a bunker complex with attached helipad? ;)
-
No, build the Yavin temple!
-
Great start Colin. An Imperial base within a woodland set up could look great.
-
Where can I get suitable vehicles?
-
Depends what you're after really mate. Ground based or flyers? Civvy or military? New or old?
There's not a lot out there in kit form in the right scale that's suitable for the Star Wars setting. There is the Bandai AT-ST (cracking kit) and not much else :?
Just get the plasticard out :D
cheers
James
-
Nice paintwork on the commando.
:-*
And that looks like a cracking start on your first ship just behind him....
;)

It looks vaguely Kaminoan to me.

I am after anything, is there not any 1/48 scale tie or x-wing models? I did find a snow speeder. What about speeder bikes?
I have an AT-ST from the assault box set
-
There's a 1/48 x-wing from Bandai which is a splendid kit. Revell do a few kits but the scale is out of whack. There will be some older AMT/Ertl kits on eBay probably and there's always the smaller vehicles from WotC bendy plastics, landspeeders and the like.
Just have a good hunt around for an hour or two.
Or just get the plasticard out :D
cheers
James
-

This! Didn't do either of us any harm. :D

Ya reckon?
;D

That's him speaking to himself! ;)......or his plastic card Jimbibbly he built!
Nice start Colin! 8)

Lovely work on the rebel. Looking forward to seeing where you go with this. :)

Even a scale model of a 'Bibbly' would take up too much room.

But would he be Qui Gon Jimm or Darth Bibbles? Which side of the Force would he be on?
-
More like Jim Jim Binks! ;)
"Me sa build a big big boom boom ship!" :D
-
lol lol lol
Or maybe even a Jar Jar Bibbles.....
-
::) Its not even my thread and I'm getting the shit ripped out of me lol
Paint something Colin, quick ;D
cheers
James
-
Sorry Jim, I'll do that in your thread instead! ;)

Thanks :D

Looks really good
Jim Colin! lol
Nah seriously Colin, can't wait to see what you've got planned.

There's a 1/52 snow speeder mate they were cheap as chips on Amazon recently. There's a few nice conversions people have done moving the T-47s out of the cold. (Action fleet one).
-
That's an Action Fleet toy mate, the 1/52 are the Revell kits and they are smaller than 1/52 :?
cheers
James
-
Yeah, I couldn't believe how tiny the 1:52 kit is.
-
There is the new Disney First Order Speeder that works pretty well....

Although you should be able to pick one up cheaper elsewhere as they were about £8 when they came out last year.
-
Can't find anything that suits me
So I thought I would take the advise given and Get the plastic card out
I decided to cheat a bit and use card for the basic construction, I will cover it in plastic later on

I have been going through my bits box to get enough bits for detail
I have wanted to try this for ages, so here goes
any C&C most welcome
-
You gits are all tempting me with the 28mm stuff, aren't ya! >:(
Great start there!
-
A good form you have there :)
Careful though, it gets addictive adding all the little tiny gubbins ;D
cheers

Still got some more engine bits to add and also clad it in plastic

Looking good!

Looking very promising 8)
cheers

That's looking really good. I wish I had half your ability with scratchbuilding! I'm sure I've seen a seller on eBay who sells little resin sci-fi bits like vents, lights, etc that could be useful for gubbins add ons. I'll see if I can find the seller.
-
nice ideas and very well executed . Using card is a good way of scratch building indeed
-
Cracking start Colin! :o So, compared to the Zeppelin, which one is bigger? ;)

I find card easier to work with and cheaper
Cracking start Colin! :o So, compared to the Zeppelin, which one is bigger? ;)
A wee bit smaller
I'll post a picture with a figure for scale tonight
-
No messing about then, mate?
lol
Get stuck in as it is really starting to take shape already.
8) 8)
It might be worth a visit to the nearest pound shop just to see if they have any plastic model kits to provide gubbins/bits/wotsits.
:)

Well, it could be explained but somebody would get upset.
And we wouldn't want that, would we...?

Thanks for all the good comments guys
some more work on the engine and started the cockpit area

Ingenious use of contents of the recycling bin! 8) :-*
-
I love scratch builds like this.
-
A lovely start, mate.
They look the part.
8)
What an ethical source of parts as well..
Captain Solo would be disgusted.
;)
-
What about raising the cockpit up a bit? Kinda like the Millenium Falcon turned through 90 degrees. It would give it a nice 3 pronged look.
-
That's a good idea 8) Gives a bit more visibility as well.
cheers
James
-
I didn't want to completely copy the Falcon.
Loads of online images showing this set up on light freighters
The cockpit is high enough to see over the two pointy bits
-
That's looking great. ;D

Dam.....I didn't realise there was soo many versions already out there! Makes this drawing a waste of time...

Come Andy, join in the fun :D
cheers
James
-
An imperial lamdba shuttle would be more useful if you want to build something
-
Sorry, you seem to be mistaken! It's not for me to build! ;)

Built a dish for the top as well but it is a bit big
-
Looking good, Colin.
Really nice work on your plastic there, especially that ramp.
8) 8)
And dont worry if you dish is too big.
It is not how big your dish is, but what you can do with it.
;)
-
Watch you don't leave your Han Solo figure anywhere near that ramp. You don't want to be sued by 28mm lawyers, representing your 28mm Mr Solo! ;)

Looks good Colin - is that green GS work? Looks very neat. 8)
-
No green stuff(other stuff is available) has been harmed in this production. It is a plactic top off a carton of juice.

Went with my brother to a car boot sale today and added another ship to this project
But first up some more progress with my freighter
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/26/1912_06_11_16_3_18_07_0.jpg)
and next the new ship, cost a whole £6. To me appears to be a good scale, what do you think

Just a few screw holes to fill, a new paint job and it will be good to go
I also received a package from combat zone yesterday as suggested by commander vyper earlier in the thread
They looked good on this site

Hardly a straight line on them not exactly what I would have expected for their cost
I will need to find another source for the star wars crates
-
Slave 1 looks great (a tad small but for £6 you can't argue :D). The freighter is coming together nicely as well 8)
I will need to find another source for the star wars crates
Let me have your address in a pm and I'll send you some :)

I will need to find another source for the star wars crates
If you can hold on until the new year, then I will have a new line of resin terrain for sale - crates, barrels and stacks.
-
Ouch, those barrels and console things look terrible. Have you complained to them?
The freighters coming along nicely and it looks like where on the one hand you lucked out with the scenery, on the other you came up trumps at the carboot sale.
-
Amazing scratchbuilding colin with that freighter! :o :o Looks really good, and the detail of a working loading ramp is a very nice touch, certainly not easy but the sign of a true artist at work. 8) 8) 8)
Cheers
Matt

Colin, I found this in Lidl for £11.99. It's a 1:51 First Order TIE fighter from Revell. It's a push fit kit but it's pretty nice and not too bad size wise. The image shows some Imperial Assault figures and a WotC bendy. Even better, it makes the TIE engine sound and has a flashy red light.
-

I needs to get me one of them!

Mantic do some crates (http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/mantic-scenery-and-terrain/individual-kits/product/deadzone-resin-equipment-crates.html) for deadzone.
Not cheap, not "official", but they're plastic, and cleanly cast.
I have the Revell Slave 1 model, which is slightly smaller than that one, but yours looks "good enough"tm
I've been enjoying the freighter build, hopefully all those surfaces will paint up without too much trouble
-
Thanks guys
Steve that looks the dogs B$$%%**S I may have to check out lidl's
-

I almost put it back thinking that it would look too much like a toy but it doesn't. There's one small screw hole to the rear that will easily cover. I'm really pleased with it and thought it might tick some boxes with your own project.
-
I checked some stuff when I got home, and the Mantic crates are resin, not plastic - but still cleanly cast.
I was going to suggest Spartan Scenics (http://www.spartangames.co.uk/products/spartan-scenics/accessories) for consoles (and also crates). However, the "buy scenics" link on the Spartan Games website leads to an "unknown category" page, so they may have dropped them :(

Those are atrocious.

Nice thread. :-* :-*
Following with interest.

Ah shit, I forgot to send you the crates out mate. I'll do it tomorrow :)
cheers

Cheers no hurry this is on the back burner anyway

Jesus send em back mate. Shocking! :( Not as advertised at all).
Remember that under U.K. Distance selling regs you have 14 days to change your mind and get a full refund (minus P&P). I'd definitely consider it, especially considering their cost!
-
I've been working my way through Star Wars Rebels Season 2, and noticed those crates in the background last night
They were in a better condition, even after the place had been blown up lol
-
Slow progress with this project, still struggling getting my painting Mojo, so I thought I would sort out some terrain for the game.
Built this for a stalled Africa Corps game

Waste not want not, I thought I would re purpose it for Star wars

Still got the front door to finish
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/34/1912-210818102000.jpeg)
Still WIP so don't be too rough on me, it will look better with some more time put into it
-
Good repurposing :)
I think the colour needs to be a bit lighter (I know it’s a wip though).
-
Building the house got me back into Star wars, I also just had a birthday so more imperial assault figures
I built these as they have been staring me in the face for too long

Happy birthday :D
Good progress. What sort of colour scheme are you going for?
-
Star wars dirty gray!
-
Gamer Mac, I'm always left speechless by scratchbuilding talents like yours. Both the house and the Falcon are looking great.
I have to admit to not having read most of this thread, but may I ask a question anyway? It seems you are using the Imperial Assault rules for your project. Do you think that game is worth picking up for a 54mm Star Wars project I'm working on? I much prefer the larger scale and so would really only purchase it for its rules and mission ideas, selling off the minis and possibly the tiles that come with it. What attracts me to the game especially is it seems to be a solid set of rules, along with the fact that the missions/campaign engine sound like they'd be really useful. So, do you think the missions could be ported to a standard tabletop with similar terrain as the tiles? I guess what I'm asking is how tied to game components is it?
Thank you for any information, and keep up the great work!
-
Sorry you are asking the wrong person, I only got the game for the figures, only played it once, no real opinion of it.

If it's a skirmish system you're looking for, there's a thread about Star Wars skirmish rules that's on the go at the moment - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=111750.0
Not wanting to hijack the thread, but is it the 54mm Star Wars Command figures you're using, or is it something else?
-
Great stuff, Colin.
That Falcon is looking great so far and the house hits the spot just fine, I reckon.
:-* :-*
-
Right, Mac, sorry!
(No hijack intended) Zemjw, I use a mix of Hasbo's Star Wars Unleashed Battle Packs, Applause SW cake decorations (which are actually rather good, though a little bigger than the former), Diagostini metals and those by Action Masters. All ready painted, and all quite good to my eye. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming... :)
-
Thanks guys
It's not going to be the Falcon
I am thinking of calling it the "Century Duck" what do you think?
-
lol do it!
-
Colin, it looks like the Falcon before Solo raped it. So maybe it is the young falcon. BTW fantastic work, always a pleasure to see your stuff. After the young falcon, will you do the Death Star?
-
Thanks guys
It's not going to be the Falcon
I am thinking of calling it the "Century Duck" what do you think?
lol
Maybe a Falconet then....although Duck is much funnier.
Maybe the Bullockornis, or Thunderduck.

;)
-
That's brilliant
-
Thanks Guys
Just been mucking about with my camera and took a picture of all my Imperial assault figures I have
Empire

And the Rebels
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/35/1912-080918143228-35154658.jpeg)
Loads of painting to do as you can see, but I now have enough for a few sides in a game
-
Best get cracking then :D
-
Those really are great looking sculpts. Looking forward to seeing what you do with them!
-
You've got a nice collection there. Some of the old pre painted Wizards of the Coast bendies are useful for filing in gaps in the Imperial Assault range.
-
Best get cracking then :D
Got cracking
Just the base to finish

-
I like those, nice work!
-
I like that a lot. Nice sense of realism to him. 8)
-
Nice work :-) Is there anywhere to buy the Imperial Assualt figures on their own, without all the gaming material that comes with them and pushes the cost up? Also, how well do they scale with the new Star Wars Legion models? Ta for any answers.
-
The Imperial Assault stuff is a lot smaller than the new Legion stuff. I'm pretty sure Agis' thread has some comparison shots. I picked some up on ebay as I only wanted the figures too. You can sometimes get a reasonable deal but be prepared to either spend a lot or lose a lot of auctions (I lost a lot of auctions!).
-
Also you can mix Imperial Assault with the old WOTC star wars figures.
-
thanks chaps :) I've a load of WOTC stuff, so I'll keep an eye out for Assault figures on ebay - shame they are that much smaller than the Legion models :-(
-
Slowly getting on with this project

Also been putting together one of these, it is not glued together what do you think?
I am not sure what height it should be
-
coming along nicely mate 8)
Whatever height you want it to be :D
-
I like where this going and that is some ingenious use of 'bits'.
8) 8)
-
It looks great Colin 8)
I wish I had the imagination to see other uses in odds and ends like you and others do on this forum, but to me they always appear as "bits :(
I think I'm "bit" blind :)
Cheers

Thanks guys for the nice comments

That will be your privileged upbringing, Tarkers.
Some of us had to make our toys when we were little, not order them from Harrods alongside the silver cutlery.
;D ;D

Cracking job.

I missed this thread first time round. It is looking great.
I wonder how big a hive of scum and villany we could build if we put together all the verisons of Mos Eisley people on LAF have made. It probably would be the biggest one you could find in the galaxy.
-
I wonder how big a hive of scum and villany we could build if we put together all the verisons of Mos Eisley people on LAF have made. It probably would be the biggest one you could find in the galaxy.
Maybe we should do that at BLAM sometime, everyone contributes at least one building (as we can all build at least one easily enough) and some scatter (more if you can manage it) and see what we can put together for a massive game....
;)
-
Thanks for all the good comments
More coming soon
-
Not so soon but we had a discussion and we decided to go with a forest board instead of the desert one
Found an easy tutorial online for making trees
First one, just to finish the base when I talk to my Brother to decide how we are going to finish it
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/36/1912-051118100114-361801341.jpeg)
And started building some tree bases, I decided I wanted them quite low so they were not getting knocked over all the time?
Got five of these on the go and I also had a long tube that I am going to make into a fallen tree
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/36/1912-051118100115-36181272.jpeg)
In between the trees I have been adding some paint to my slave 1
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/36/1912-051118100115-361822111.jpeg)
and also fixing the damaged guns
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/36/1912-051118100116-361841363.jpeg)
I am also looking for ideas on how to paint the cockpit glass
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/36/1912-051118100115-361832433.jpeg)
-
Crack on :D
You really need a fully detailed interior for Slave I ;)
-
Great work! Great imagination! Look forwards to the finished freighter. Will be working on some "Moisture Evaporators" myself soon!
-
Nice one Colin! 8)
Could you not copy Dwartists style he used on his Locust PJ?.....
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=112954.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=112954.0)

He could get you to do it :D
-
Did anyone hear the big voice from above the clouds? ;) Seriously though, I can't find enough time for my own stuff :'(
-
A nice start, Colin.
Looking forward to see where you go with the lumber.
:-* :-*
As fot that 'voice in the sky' with all the talk of interiors: Well, that would just be silly.
;D
-
Great project, it looks boss!

Cool minis!

Great work allover this thread!

Looking good. I struggle to keep up, are they the legion or Imperial Assault figs?

Imperial Assault
-
Cracking work bro! :-* They REALLY suit your painting style! Top notch! Especially R2! :-*
-
Very good.

I had some spare Amazon vouchers and no idea what I wanted so after a search on Amazon I found this
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/37/1912-130119125832-371121168.jpeg)
I think it is not too bad for scale, what do you think?
With some figures for scale
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/37/1912-130119125832-37111920.jpeg)
The fold out wings are a bit big for a wargame table but otherwise it will be good for an objective or start point for a rebel crew
A paint job and it will be good to go
-
Nice find. Sizes nicely.
-
Looks a little on the large side but with a decent paint job it’ll be fine :)
-
The figures scale up well with the doors on the sides
And it also fires NERF bullets ;D ;D ;D
-
lol lol
-
Very nice. :-* :-*
-
Great find bro! That looks about perfect to me. Just need a bigger table now! ;)
-
Very nice find.

We had our first game of Galactic Heroes using the figures seen in this thread
It was played a few weeks ago but I was unable to post pictures of the game as the tree in the middle of the game was still in the BSC.
The game was the mission from the rule book "Taking down the force field" with a force of rebels carrying a bomb and a squad of storm troopers defending the stand in for a force field, a moisture vaporator, we don't have a force field generator.
A picture of the table , with the objective on the bottom left with the storm troopers setting up a perimeter and the rebel scum coming from the top right

Still trying to progress this project

I am sorting out a game that we hope to take to BLAM. For the game we need four forces, so far we have Stormtroopers, Rebels, I am trying to get together an alliance navy force and my brother is painting bounty hunters
Each force needs a heavy blaster, I have one for each of the others but nothing for the Navy, so I have come up with the idea of a droid driven vehicle mounting a heavy blaster
This is what I have come up with so far, what do you think is it Starwarsy enough?

Good start Colin! :-* Are you running with the Rebel Airspeeder look as a design guide?
Btw the last wee guy turned out good too! 8) Did you band paint the deck mesh? You’re nuts!

Thanks guys

-
Excellent stuff Colin. ;D
-
Absolutely cool! :o
-
Speeder and minis look great :D
-
Thanks guys
Yes I am going to try weathering it a bit more, not sure on how dirty a navy speeder would be though? I imagine it would be quite clean and well looked after?
-
Nah, cover it in muck and shit :D
-
So that is the expert opinion? ;D :D
-
Star Wars aesthetic, used and dirty.....so cover it in muck and shit! ;)

Get some pastels on there for dirt streaks. Or even some coloured pencils.
-
Great thread to follow ... feeling the force to get me doing some Star Wars stuff ... ;D
-
I like that speeder alot.

Thanks guys

A couple of years ago on this thread I started building a freighter, I am needing it for a game next month so I thought I had better get it finished
This is a few photos of my progress
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/40/1912-120919193803-408671537.jpeg)
This was a picture of how far I had got with the crew painted by my brother

Some work on the undercarriage

Was struggling for a cockpit so tried to build my own. I built this out of some foam and bits of plastic, sanded it smooth, but it all melted when I spray painted it
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/40/1912-120919195708-40873477.jpeg)
Built a new one

Good advice for life too? ;)

That's looking brilliant.

Puh, great work as always. In this moment I remember your zeppelin. Maybe you will be the first Wargames building a falcon to game inside it. All the rooms for a skirmish „inside“. You talent is outstanding!!!!
-
No interior on this one Dirk, it was hard enough getting the outside done
Couldn't work how to do the inside
-
lovely stuff... I picked up some stormtroopers on sale, need to do something with them, but don't have any real plans for them - no other figures, not got legion, was just bewitched by stormtroopers... lol

Its not a perfect model but I hope it will add to the tramp freighter look
Just got to work out how to paint something this big
-
Aces 8)
I’d possibly suggest going over it again with black and making sure it’s in all the recesses then giving it a dusting of grey spray then an even lighter dusting of your chosen ship colour.
-
Another great build. I'm always amazed at the stuff you guys build from card :-* :-* :-*

I'm very impressed with that freighter. Some nice scratchbuilding there.

I can only echo what everyone else is saying, great scratchbuilding Colin! That ship would actually fit in a few sci fi universes, not just Star Wars.

Thanks for the nice comments
