Title: AKULA's Stargate Project
Post by: AKULA on October 22, 2016, 07:19:40 PM
Stargate has been another little project on my todo list, for some time now, but I've finally got around to getting some minis painted.

I expect I will get around to painting some SG teams at some point, but my initial thoughts were to build a couple of forces of Jaffa so they could battle it out amongst themselves.

My lead pile is composed primarily of the Phoenix minis, but I'll be converting some, changing weapons, head swops etc.....

Well that puts my little forces to shame, great to see so many Jaffa in one place.

Thanks mate - the downside of planning a Jaffa vs Jaffa game is that I need a lot more Jaffa

 :D

Not sure if you have too much money, too much space or too much time, or perhaps just all three!  lol

Jaffa . . . .  ;D

A splendid start there sir, just a couple more and conquering galaxies will be all but a roll of the dice!

Thanks Matt, I've missed your periodic derailing of my threads....

 ;) :D

None of the above Scott.

I sold off a whole bunch of stuff before my house move earlier this year, which generated a bit of cash to plough back into existing projects.  My net spend in the last 12 months is c£30 mainly on glue.  Re:space, I've got half the storage I had a year ago, it's just being better used....and as for time, not really, I just seem to be a bit more focussed at the moment, and get more done in a shorter space of time.  The 130 or so Jaffa took 3 sittings to do, including trimming/glueing the bases.

Love your Jaffa, Akula.

A perhaps interesting but admittedly irrelevant note:

I'm from Vancouver and I used to see Stargate in production quite regularly in a local park. I'd be walking the dog and come upon a whole series of Styrofoam ruins, the outdoor Stargate (before they broke it and went CG) and usually a lone Teamster sitting in a truck supervising. The next day when the production crews arrived it was like the circus had come to town. My dog and I would watch solemnly from the sidelines. I was personally glared at by Richard Dean Anderson on one occasion.

Anyway - Jaffa armor, while looking silver on screen, appears black in person. Black plates over black knitted "chainmail". The silver is mainly due to a shiny finish on the "plates" and metallic fibre in the mail.

Thanks all.  Interesting story Kamandi, I'll keep the silver "onscreen" look though.
