Title: 1:56 GI Joe project
Post by: CompanyB on October 26, 2016, 05:11:39 PM
Since I've seen quite a few threads, and made quite a few sets of decals for people, I thought I'd start my own GI Joe themed army.  It's going to take me awhile though.

So I'm starting with some old school decals:

And something to put them on:

The same hull will also take the turret from the MGS Stryker I made, so I'll have a few variants.  Apparently, the stingray turret was also offered on the M41 for export.  I may need to build one of those as well to take on some Hiss Tanks.

Plenty of nice figures out there...but I think I'll get a few custom sculpts done just for fun.

To be continued!

As a big GI Joe junkie I'll look forward to see how this project develops

The original cartoon runs would be the perfect setting for a fun/frantic skirmish game.  I desperately wish someone would pick up that license - but I suspect it's nearly impossible.  We'd end up with the late 90's "Eco-warriors!" nonsense.  :-I

I'm getting the parts all printed the next week or so.  For now, here's another photoshop render:

I'm going to make a couple more vehicles...but I have not decided which ones yet.  Maybe this one:

I think that's a solid iconic selection.  When I think old school, the first few that come to mind:

Don't really know anything about GI Joe never really took off up here, but some of those vehicles look cool but also some just look daft
Os this just a personal project or commercial

It's personal.  Though any of the models and miniatures that look the part, and are not copyrighted (since they are real vehicles) could see a limited release.  I see no issues with the stingray tank, or the mod packs for our LAPV.

The jungle cat may be ok if I redesign it and make vehicles in the "flavor" of GIJoe, but stick with the prototypes and real dimensions they were based on.

Then of course I can always cast copies of just about everything for limited direct person to person sales, and not release it into the Company B shop.  I actually have the capability to cheaply do limited run resin kits now  :D
