Title: My Feeble Attempts at Teutonic Efficiency
Post by: Plynkes on February 02, 2007, 06:52:36 PM
Got a call midweek saying we'd be playing "Gangs of Mega-City One" tonight, which came a little out of the blue. Having only painted three of the eleven members of my "Pimps and Hookers" themed gang I was in a bit of a bind. I didn't want to field unpainted figures (I hate that. Hate it!) so was forced to call on the power of my Germanic ancestors.

So I speed-painted 8 of these 11 over the last 48 hours:

Left-to-right we have Yo-Yo, Lay-Jo, LaTavia, Tapeeka, King George (Big Boss), Foxy Shabazz (Lieutenant), Sho'Nuff, Go-Go, Bouncee, Kellandra and Moesha.

Sorry the photo is a bit rubbish, but did that in a hurry, too. I can paint better than this, but not in the time. I'm pretty pleased, actually. I've never faced such a tight deadline before and met it.

Not much to shout about for a German, but it's pretty good going for a lazy, feckless Brit.

Grrrr. Badly-sized.

I forgot about that side bar on the left of the page. Apologies to those of you with Horizontal-Scroll sensitivity.

I like 'em Poly. You definitely did much better than I could have. In fact, Cold Wars is six weeks away and I've already started buying painted miniatures because I know I won't finish what I need.

Excellent idea for a street gang! Have you got a suitably pimped ride to go with them?
For the timescale mentioned you've done an awesome job!!!!

Regards

Excellent theme, great names, and good and horrible colors. I particularly like Sho'Nuff.

Not a bad job for a Welshman.

Well no. But I'm part Anglo-Saxon, and the Anglo-Saxons are after all, only a type of dislocated or misplaced German.

A lazy and feckless type of German, but still a German.

Yes, i was such one, too. Didn't paint anything. Then, 13 years ago, i went to Germany and since then have painted some thousands of minis.

Hmm, should I try this GOMC1 thing?
I have figures already but I heard the rules were not good. Your write up a while ago seemed to contradict this and clearly you think it worth while to put some effort into it. They look good by the way, have you seen this Necromundaheim gang?

There's a pimped Judge for you!

can someone give an honest appraisal of the starter box contents please? You know, type and quality of the figures, description of any innovative and '2000ADy' rules. (I won't use the card scenery).

'Someone' means you Poly of course

The local group is knee-deep in a Gloire campaign right now, but in another month or two we'll probably switch to something else. I wonder if GOMC1 would appeal. I have to admit I'd love to dig in to some old-skool Dredd stuff.

So how'd they do, Poly?

Love the Pink Judge.

Can't really speak for the contents of the boxed set, as I ain't seen 'em. Don't own the game myself, and the owner of the game hasn't shown me the original  figures, but he says he didn't like them much.

I have had a quick glimpse of the "card" buildings. Nicely drawn, but they look really flimsy. Seem to be on thick paper rather than card. There's also a floorplan sheet but I didn't really get a look at that.

I don't know what the whole thing sells for, but I don't think I'd buy it. I wouldn't mind owning a copy of the rules, but I'd like to buy just the book. I don't think you can get it on its own at the moment. Boo.

I wouldn't be into it at all if someone else hadn't made original leap. To be honest I would have said it isn't really my type of thing. But if I'm going to expect the others to play my Great War and Darkest Africa stuff, sometimes I just have to put up with their Sci-Fi nonsense in return. As it happens we've all had so much fun playing the game that I'm now into it to the extent of wanting to paint my own figures. No one is more surprised about that than me.

I'll get back to you on the rules themselves, I want to go and eat something right now.
