Came across these beauties at Fall In. Joe Corsaro of Dragon Bait Miniatures tells me that there will be a Kickstarter for these starting in December 2016. Set on Venus in 1888, the range, to be known as Steam Bait, will include British, Prussians and IIRC Venusians. There will be Infantry and Cavalry (suitably mounted of course).

Teacup and parasols, most excellent!!
-
Oh, they are lovely!
-
Cool looking figures especially the one on the mechanical horse, very nice.
Hmmm I can hear it now "Does this scarlet tunic clash with the hair?" Hehehehe :)
-
Lovely looking figures :)
-
Lovely mechanical horse.
-
Look great, love the parasols/umbrellas to protect the ladies fair skins.
-
I can't wait for th Kickstarter! :-*
I think they will go well with my Hinterland troops.
I love the umbrellas! (And tea cups!)
-
lol
Oh gentlemen, that's not even the half of it.
I wish I could tell you what's due to come out But Joe would have my guts for garters.( Joe phoned me a little over a fortnight ago just to remind me,and to go over my contribution )
But I can hint there will be rivets ,lots of rivets .
Mark.
-
Teacups, parasols? Delightfully civilised! Nice all round. :-*
-
Unfortunately, probably not in 15/18mm size.
They are... nice.
-
Lovely - Will hopefully have a piece of this kick starter
-
Oh i do like them, just one small thing should well bred young gals not ride side saddle? lol

With, or against?
Have not obtained any Hinterland, but these would be proper opponents, for sure. ;)
Now, the hints do make me want to revisit as more is revealed.
Doug
-
Hinterland figures will fit well (I know as I've also just finished a mountain gun and crew for Hinterland and there in transit to Jason right now. ;))
As for hints think big.
Mark.
-
Like the infantry will get some of them.
-
lol

Then tell him that we are all waiting in excited anticipation to meet the ladies on the table, I hope they play nicely with my Hinterland Hussars! :D
-
Not Joe's regular territory, but he's got a fine track record for delivering.
David Soderquist sculpts, one presumes?
-
I presume so, I was commissioned for something different (and Prussian) requiring a crew.
I cant give any more hints, without hearing back from Joe.All I know to date is my work is moulded and until I've seen a pre production casting to double check parts fit etc. That's pretty much it until its released.
-
Looking forward to these. :)
Was honoured to write at least part of the fluff for these.
-
Quite nice looking figures, I agree.

Yes I did these for Joe.
-
here is one of the greens photos.
-
Now Joes emailed back here's a couple of pictures of the Prussian walker at its first fix and joint sealing,It's held up just so Joe could get a rough idea of proportions.
David's cavalry comes upto the top of the ankle.
;) it does look a lot prettier now.
The bottom walker is on I made for Graven Images, and only comes up to the coal bunker tops on the Prussian walker.
-
You had my money with the first pic, the project just keeps getting better!
-
Hey Guys,
Thanks for all your support. When a photographer for Lead Adventure Forum showed up at my one table booth at Fall-In and took images of the minis, I cain't tell you how proud I was. I truly enjoy the LAF. I really tried to create a world this time with Venus 1888, and with Dave Soderquist the lead sculptor, and Mark Fuller as Chief Rivet Head I knew it could be special. Daves Clockwork calvary really is something special, and when you truly comprehend Mark Fullers Prussian monstrosity, you will giggle delightfully even if you have never giggled before.
The British are the tip of the spear and the Amazons along with the evil Prussians are just as..well crazy...This range has been a year in planning and I know you will not be disapointed..
Thanks again...
Joe

These are worth risking the customs charge on. I will back the kickstarter

So I was talking to Joe about the future of this range and I thought I would put it out to you guys. What would you like to see?
here are some things we talked about.
standing and kneeling firing line.
Different units for the English and Prussians (i.e. a highland unit and others)
artillery
other war machines.
What might tickle your fancy? ;)

I´m sure you are aware of the Hinterland range of female Prussians, therefore I´d have a close look to avoid sculpting too similar figures, but take the poses for inspiration. I like the English you displayed here. Female Highlanders sound great too! Cuirassiers cavalry would be a temptation...
-
Michi,
Since I've had commissions from both Joe and Jason.nothing I've made for either company clashes.
James,
Contact Joe.You might be pleasantly surprised when it comes to importing!

Hi Folks,
In the middle of all the design work for the range I had been bouncing some greens off of Buck Surdu, one of the creators of Gaslight, and he mentioned the Hinterland Range. I oddly wasn't familiar with them and ordered several packs. Customer service was great and the minis arrived promptly. They are simply smaller by about 5mm, reminding me a bit of the Ral Partha colonials, where mine are Foundry or Copplestone sized. My Prussians have a different feel and since the Prussian Walker and Calvary had really reached a stage of production I could not back out even if I wanted too.
I will post some side by sides so you can be a bit more educated in your decision, and decide if these are for you.
Hinterland was awesome to deal with and had some great minis.
Joe
-
I am even more happy to hear that your figs are slightly larger than Hinterland, as they will likely fit well with my Redoubt and BTD figures..
-
I'll have no problem owning both Hinterland and Steam Bait. They will, most likely be in different units and probably on opposing sides so the height difference wont really matter. Anyway people are different heights so I don't see mixing them as a big issue.

I second that completely!

I second that completely!
More to the point, in the Victorian period, different nationals could have different 'average' heights based on nutrition. If I recall right, Brit rank-and-file should be REALLY short. ;D

Absolutely stunning. Love love love!
-
Absolutely stunning. Love love love!
I think the Dice Bag Lady should stock these!!
-
An absolute splendid range in the making here! Looking forward to seeing it develop.
If anything this range will continue to popularise female Victorian figures, and this will work to the advantage of both Dragon Bait and Hinterland.
Great stuff! :)
-
Cannot wait still working with the Hinterland figures I have always room for more
-
Any more news on these? The website just says coming soon....
-
Interesting. I'd like to switch out the unicyclists for the 'Pig Tickler' game with steam unicorns.
-
Not too long,
I've just sent Joe a quick concept sketch for a British support Tricycle,he asked for.
The walker is in pre production moulds and taking into account that the mould maker said it would be moulded in the next two weeks and its nearly two weeks since I spoke to him.
Id say pretty soon Joe will be receiving a walker or two.

Hi Folks,
Here is my game plan at this point. The English are done except for the Heavy weapons. The Prussian Coal fired Heavy Cavalry lancers are almost done and are just as crazy as the Clockwork Calvary.. The Prussian Infantry is started and the first Amazon green to be sculpted will be finished this week. The Amazon Cavalry mounts are done. The Huge Prussian walker is breathing down my neck. I am waiting on some professional art and was hoping to launch the Kickstarter the 15th of this month but at the latest it will be Jan first. This will also give me some great images to send to wargames illustrated for their online magazine. This project has been in the making for almost a year and hopefully you guys will be blown away as I am.
Sorry for the Kickstarter thing but the range was not an investment for the faint hearted as I found out. I have three Indiegogo's successfully under my belt and promise not to disappoint.
I promise I will update all greens etc here as they come along to include Concept art.
Thanks again for the support.
Joe
-
I shall definitely be investing in the Kickstarter, everything looks great.
-
Yes me too I am reserving my Christmas bonus money for the kickstarter.
Thanks for the update, Cotton Eyed Joe and Tin Shed Gamer.
-
Hi Folks,
Another look at the Calvary showing some of the command. These beauties were painted by Paul Sanderson.

They are delightful. (Take note Troglodytes that used to write okay rules a decade or two ago.)
-
Joe, when is the Kickstarter due to start?
Are you going to give our wallets some time to recover from the Xmas festivities?
-
waiting, waiting...
-
Interesting. I'd like to switch out the unicyclists for the 'Pig Tickler' game with steam unicorns.
Right-o, Matt!
I can see this being a developement of the expansion of sports for the English schoolgirls of the later Victorian. Paint the helmets as pith, eh?
Maybe pig tickling on a school pitch. Smashing!
Doug
-
May be,But the support weapons platforms might be a little hard core for hockey.
-
Sorry about the concept pic's ( they normally don't rotate when I post from my phone)
Mark.
-
My day's been ruined now, thanks! ;)
-
I thought you'd be grateful. :?
Don't they normally show upside down there? :D
Doug
Edit:

'Down two nil, it appears Saint Mary Meade will be bringing in the special team.'
Of course 'pig -tickling' is actually boar hunting. Now, if I could recall where I saw that fig for an entelodont...
-
Cool stuff! We definitely live in the golden age of wargaming, wiht new ranges popping up all over the radar, all the time ;D
-
Fantastic! Gotta get me some of these :D
-
Delightful indeed ! Whereas the Hinterland ladies primarily draw their inspiration from Imperial Germany, these seem mostly to be British. Room for both in the same universe !
-
Metternich
Even more so as I've commissions from both.
you do know that Joe's range has bloody great Prussian Walker in it (separate thread) as well as few ladies of germanic heritage. Not just British who quite frankly at this point ,are going to get squashed alot! Unless I get my finger and build the British 'David' to counter the Prussian Goliath.
-
I'd like to have the support weapons platform in a civilian version.
-
I'd like to have the support weapons platform in a civilian version.
You mean without weapons? Looks like would be easily accomplished
-
A civilian version is a cool idea. I think besides losing the weapons you could make the back seat wide enough to fit two people.
-
Yes, and useful for big game hunting on the wilder fringes. Though, given that the "English" often tended to prefer stalking their prey on foot with only a stupidly large bore double rifle for company, an extras pack might be worth consideration so people can customise their walker according to their national taste. Tea urns, picnic hampers and beer barrels spring to mind.
-
Funny because headache springs to mine!
-
Think positive thoughts. The extra commission money would pay for the headache tablets ;)

And... we're back to The Deadliest Game.
No fear, Tin Shed; if necessary, we can adapt it ourselves. ;)
I must say, reminds me of dreams of possessing a certain build by a certain Midnight fella, back when I was just beginning my long and boring string of posts. To think the possibility of someone as multi-thumbed as myself owning such magic does give me chills.

Doug,
There's been nothing mentioned that can't made.As it would only take a little tweaking of the master to accommodate these ideas as options. It's never really a question of money ( As its increase is Always welcome )But that of time. There's a limit to the pace any project can move at.No matter what tricks of the trade you employ .If you cant move deadlines then the amount of changes you can make are limited by budget and time.

It really is an exciting time. And not the curse of 'interesting times', as far as gaming goes.

Any idea when the mentioned Kickstarter might happen? The miniatures look great by the way!
Joe mentioned it back on page 3. he has missed his initial date (15 dec) so I guess it could be anytime now, or Jan 1.
-
Hi folks and thanks for your patience,
Oddly as I get more done the range gets pushed back a few weeks. I had a talk with the sculptor and feel in two weeks I will have the Command pack (Which is only Missing the Mounted Colonel Lady Grey) and the Hales Organ and its crew which is a cross between a hales rocket and an Organ gun (its referred to as Hales Organ). I will also have the massive Prussian Walker in hand and an idea what to charge for it. In the next days I will have an image or two of a complete variant of the Calvary where they are firing pistols. I have a unit of six almost done and they look crazy..
Jan 15 seems like a solid no nonsense date and on the other end I will shorten the KS from two months to six weeks. The guys and gals from Pulp Ally also agreed to provide cards for the KS as well for notables, free of charge, which is pretty cool because it is an awesome game.
Thanks again..
Joe

Looking forward to this!
-
So, infantry, command, two types of cavalry, rocket artillery and a walker or two....I can't wait!
-
it seems that I'm not the only one who's waiting.
-
The line looks fun, but be sure to spell cavalry correctly on the Kickstarter!
-
He's just a bit dilsexic, is all! lol

Only a fool would tangle with the Empires flying wedge of clockwork pistoliers!!!
Sneak peek at the Pistoliers and the first unit ever painted.

Excellent! I certainly like these mechanical ponies more than some I've seen lately and the ladies look really good! :-*
-
Thanks Wolf Girl!!!
The clockwork unicorns just show incredible energy or momentum in the charge.
I just saw the Gun crew with their Hales rocket from the sculptor and it comes with a mechanical mule!!
People will fall in love with the mule.

Awesome stuff-can't wait for the kickstarter :D
-
They look great, sure to be popular :)
-
Can definitely see my first involvement in a KS coming with these . . .
-
Those do look very nice. Could be tempted by a KS, even though I have been trying to avoid them lately.
-
Indeed, I think this work is excellent, great ideas and lovely figures, and look forward to further news and developments, even if it has to come via KS.
-
I would order some up right away, but I really am beginning to hate KS. I would rather just pay and know they will ship within the week.
-
I understand your pain on Crowd funding, I get so nervous, 90% will be done before it even starts. It's the huge outlay I have to try and recover that really demands a Kickstarter.
I just saw the artillery greens from Dave Soderquist. They are awesome and include a piece that looks like a cross between a Hales Rocket and a Medieval Organ Gun ( called a Hales Organ, sorry) . It looks very unsafe and inaccurate. It also has a cool looking mechanical mule to pull it that will have optional cargo options. The crew will also include stacked rifles and a pile of packs.
Lady Grey should also be available as a green by the end of the week. She is sitting side saddle as she sips tea, looking at the whole situation in graceful distaste through her Opera glasses. I have included an image of Lady Grey with the opera glasses removed which was a concept piece.
as a stretch goal she may have the appropriate amount of attendants or perhaps a hoard of clockwork hunting beagles to rip stuff apart like piranhas.
Any ways polished green images this weekend and thanks again for the support.
All ideas and opinions welcome and appreciated.

Hi Folks,
I see this next weekend being the launch date. Just had Dave at TrenchWorx, an incredible Resin Outfit out of Utah, take on the bulk casting of the Tripod and here is an idea of his work. Dave is finishing up some minor detail work with the last two units and I will have the Kickstarter Video hopefully made Wednesday. Several stretch goal miniatures are in the works incase I need them.
Thanks for your support and patience.

Its in full production right now and the prototypes are really beautiful. They assemble quite nicely. They are an add on to the KS. One of the last Stretch goals will be dismounted crewmen and I am gathering thoughts on the uniforms as well..

Beautiful work! Love these models! :-*

Here's a quick update on the steam powered tricycle.
It's still sat on my workbench. Joe hasn't actually seen this (emails just disappearing into the ether !) So this isn't actually an approved yet.
It's looking a little rickety ( for obvious reasons) as its only balanced together .
But it should give you the idea.
Mark.

Rather cool, that :o

I'm glad you like the progress. I have made a weapon system and foot plates for the high seat. These have been prepped for moulding. So they're not included in the pictures.but here's a better view of the tricycle.
-
As requested,a potential civilian version.
-
That is super cool! VSF Tuk Tuk is even more interesting than an auto hansom. I need to close off this comment so I can look at your pic some more :D !

Oh yes I could use a couple of the civilian version

Those tricycles are wonderful - true steampunk technology.
-
Brilliant!
-
Sorry to be the party poop, but would have preferred a 'commercial' version with a driver above and rearward.
There were actual early autos designed as such.
Mind you, a conversion doesn't SEEM impossible, and I'm easily daunted. :D
Doug
-
Doug,
There's no need to convert as there is a set to do this (not all options are show as parts are prepared for moulding )
Here's another 'Possible' version ,all be it slightly wobbly as parts are a little heavy for blue tack.
Plus another 'Possible ' military tricycle( please note its prepared for moulding and there should be four sets of Hales launchers)
-
Nice! :)

Launchers on the cab appear to be a possible quick repurpose of a civilian, something I enjoy seeing.
A dozen rockets on the trike? *woof*
Might consider a larger windscreen to deflect the backwash.
