Title: 15mm fantasy - anybody still doing this?
Post by: LCpl McDoom on November 06, 2016, 01:39:22 PM
This is more of a scoping out question before considering whether to post up a message on For Sale/Trade, but, my Beloved has been clearing out her own personal paintbox of unpainted and part-started lead, nearly all 15mm fantasy, and I wondered whether anyone here was still into collecting and painting in this scale?

I think this might have been her DBA/HOTT project many moons ago, but can't be sure. And I have no idea of the companies/ranges involved - there's Elven spears & archers, and what look like Dwarven cavalry on shetland ponies, and some other bits& bobs  :?

So does/can anyone use this stuff still, or has time moved on and figure scales gone the way of the 25/28? Any helpful tips appreciated.

I'm not personally, but I think there's still a fair number of folks doing that scale, most likely for Dragon Rampant and dungeoncrawl rules.  Splintered Light must be selling all those new models to someone, and they're just one of several manufacturers.  :)

I'm just about to ramp up into 15mm and am starting a fantasy project first so there's at least one person on here!

I collect bits of everything  :D. Always worth putting some pics in the Bazaar.

15mm fantasy still seems to be pretty popular.

I have been cleaning up my lead mountain & painting up a bunch of 15mm fantasy armies for Hott. I know there are still people out there playing in this scale.

Thanks folks, I was unsure as my own dabblings into fantasy have only been with Dragon Rampant, and even then, I'm using my 28mm Reivers and some odds & bods to do so.

So thanks for the comments and insight, and I will get her to do some pix and I'll post up in the Bazaar.

Actually, it's a few weeks I'm thinking if I'd better offload all my 25/28mm stuff entirely and move on 15mm. Mostly for space and money reasons. I'll be unable to play any "full-line" game (don't know if there's a proper name: I mean games with rules and an associated line of minis, strongly tied together. I.e. Warmachine, Infinity, Malifaux. Games that would be hard to play without official minis). But the more time passes, the more I'm versed in "generic" ruleset, not just because I can use whatever mini I like (and I'm never forced to paint that mini I don't like the look of, but that I need because it's useful/strong in the game) but also because they usually offer a more "relaxed" gameplay.

But it's a hard decision to make :)

I play almost exclusively 15mm for fantasy.

95% of my games and my miniatures come from this 15mm range.

Im also very much fond of 15mm Fantasy, mostly for generic skirmish systems, but Im really considering playing AoS or Chronopia since my collection grew so big in the last few years.

So bring it on with pictures please, especially if there is some OOP stuff with it!

I'm another 15mm fantasy fan, I'm a big 15mm fan overall and I admit the only exception to this was fantasy in 28mm as for awhile doing it in 15mm there wasn't alot to go by.

Now though I'd say its one of those rapidly expanding scale/genres and pretty much everything you'd expect is being covered with even more on the way.

You have Battle Valor Games, Splintered Light, Khurasan, Demonworld and Copplestone you really can't go wrong, and I think there are a few others (Eureka do some fantasy in the larger 18mm scale, and Magister Militum has some bits but I'd be cautious on scale for a few of the races).

I've also heard rumours of a few other 15mm fantasy ranges in the works, and thats not including Copplestones elusive continuation of his current fantasy line.

There's been a bit of a renaissance in 15mm over the last few years.  Lots of manufacturers, the high cost of the big 28's, and better sculpts/detail/alloys means that you can do a lot more in 15mm than you could when I was a pup.  So count me among the big fans of the little guys.

Heck, yeah!  Buying only 15/18mm for fantasy, Science Fiction, VSF, and Historicals.

Giving away, trading, selling tons of 25+mm stuff to make room.

We play it a lot using impetus rules .
It looks stunning  when you deploy your army on the table they look like units and you get a good feel to the game ..

Thank you gentlemen for all your helpful comments and insight.

I've now posted it up in the 'For Sale' section as '15mm Fantasy - variety of dwarves & elves'

This is just a shout out from a fan for the new 15mm Peter Pig Carolingians that have been released. They would make excellent proxies for Dunlendings, Westfolders and even Rohirrim or any other fantasy Imagi-nations for that matter doing battle with orkses etc.

I might add that with the expansion of 3d-printing, there are lots of possibilities for 15mm.
