Title: DeepWars, other models

I just purchased DeepWars and while I'm waiting I was wondering if anyone has found other models for the game?

I was thinking along the lines of schools of fish, small single fish, regular sharks, maybe a regular deep sea diving suit guy. Just somethings to add to make it seem more of an underwater setting. Also wondering about an ancient galley shipwreck model/aquarium piece and/or a sailing ship resting over on it's side.

Look at various pet stores aquarium sections, there's a lot of stuff there.

For animals, look at the various toy isles and sets of sea life.

Tube-O sets have a lot of things in about the right size to game with 28mm. They will have sharks & rays & other types of fish. Also starfish & some times corals that make good scatter. Bags of sea creatures often come with sea plants & coral to use for terrain.

Thanks, that was just the thing. I also found a deep sea driver and a few other fish :D

I'm planning on looking at aquarium places for some ideas. I did look on line and found some ship wrecks, but not an ancient galley type ship. I hoping there would be a Roman grain ship or something like that. Also, most of what I have seen is sitting upright, I'd like something more over on it's side.

A lot of time it varies heavily in what they have at the time, and often shifts between various "themes" every few months.

Played it sometimes a while back. Table was mostly covered in aquarium stuff (sunken ships included). For undersea fauna (i.e. wandering monsters) we used toys mostly (plastic sealife in plastic bags, I'm prestty sure they're not sold in Italy only ;)).
As for compatible minis, Reaper makes a couple of subs, and a few models we used. A great Wereshark I still own and some kind of evil siren (sea hag, I believe was the name) we made stats for, as the main book has rules to create your own profiles.
Also, I made templates for hazards (jellyfish clouds, barnackles, and so on) as the game supports the use of strange and hazardous terrain, one of the aspects I liked more.
Unfortunately, while the setting was intriguing and the models gorgeous, I didn't like the rules at all, so sold what I got and jumped off the ship :)
I could still have the templates in some hard disk, anyway, in case you're interested...

Sorry you did not like the rules. Just curious which part you did not like? There have been some updates since the first edition so maybe they addressed the issues you had, but if not we are always trying to improve them.

Hi Eric, What I didn't like was how complex and convoluted the rules were, built on a system simple as the Song of... one. The feeling I had was something near AD&D 2nd edition: too many special rules on a 'core' so simple that wasn't able to support them and that lost in the process its simplicity (while not addressing all its ingenuities). To say one: too many stuff to do while models still had 2 actions to spend at best (in most situation). Hope this will not hurt you, but I believe a honest opinion is better than a false compliment :)
One thing we loved: the interactive and hazardous environment, something so many other games should introduce, really, as it's loads of fun.

The changes in DeepWars did make the game more complex, and it may not be everyone's style. We have tried to address some of the criticisms in version 2.5 of the game, which introduced a different wound system, a free activation option, bonus action points for aggressive activation rolls and reduced the number of actions to do certain things. The complexity was addressed by putting all special rules, armor and weapons and special items on the game cards, which really reduced the need to look at the rulebook. I can send you a PDF to check out if you are interested, since you were a player at one point. If not, that's okay too.

I'd like to check 2.5 rules, as all changes seems to address what I didn't like, but then I'd fear to regret having sold everything... ;)
