Title: Once again to Troy... Now with Sea People!
Post by: LeadAsbestos on November 22, 2016, 02:06:02 AM
Well, my Trojan War project is up and running again, so I thought I'd start to record it here, in hopes you all will inspire me to stay on target. I started this time with:

I had this beauty commissioned from IronHeart Artisans, and I have to say, it is better than I could have hoped! Waiting to get it in my mitts!

I don't like the way the oars look, but I guess they could be modified to look more natural.

Otherwise a very nice model (and I cannot understand, that nobody has yet made a laser-cut model of a tramp steamer, with the possibilities offered by this technology).

A little sanding down and shaping will be needed, I agree. Still terribly happy!

Sea Peoples as Trojan allies, playing the part of Fierce Foot in my Achaean Lion Rampant games:

Some of these were painted by the very talented Blue in Vt, the rest by my humble brush. More to come!

playing the role of Cassandra for me in Troy.

I don't believe you!  ;D

Lovely miniatures, I've just put in a small order at redoubt for some of the Greek heroes, so I'm looking over your work with keen interest.

I'm curious about your opinion of Lion (or should it be Achilles?) Rampant being used for the period. Does it place enough importance upon the individual hero? Is it possible, for example, for Patroclus to have his finest hour with a few good dice rolls?

Not really. The overall period feel is right with the boasting, Fierce Foot, unit activation, etc, but I've been playing Tribal to get my Heroics some action. Working on a few tweaks for both systems to get just the right feel.

You could play the heroes as a single units like in Dragons Rampant. Where you have hitpoints in stead of models.

We have had great fun playing the Chariots Rampant rules that was in an issue of Wargames Soldier and Strategy.

Exactly how Tribal does it!

Basically the sames rules as I'm using, except I do more chariots and fewer runners. I like a Troy game to have plenty!

Lovely project :)
Thanks!

Ordered one of everything of the new Eureka Dark Age Greeks, and they arrived yesterday. Really nice sculpts, wonderful clean casts, and right in line with the rest of the collection. And finally, some nicely sculpted females! That Redoubt Helen can go back to the bottom of the painting queue where she really belongs. :?

The obligatory scale shot:

Newline, Eureka, Redoubt( a smaller one, honestly), Eureka, BTD, Eureka, Foundry.

A nice fit! I asked for more civilians, so you never know!  Excited to get these done.

Saga also works quite well for Bronze Age stuff.
We tried 'chariots rampant' with Egyptians and Hittites and it gave a fun game but lacked a bit of flavour (except for the boasts). Then I made a couple of boards for Egyptians and Hittites and that worked much better.
